This video has helped pinpoint the root cause of my depression and anxieties. I now have developed a more optimistic explanatory style instead of a pessimistic explanatory style before. Thank you so much!
With only three videos from your channel I started to clearly see why my depression started and how to fix it. Your channel deserves one millon subscribers. Thank you very much, you are awesome!
How can I shift from a personalization mindset? Even if 40% of the outcome was influenced by factors beyond my control (like luck), I find myself assuming that, based on past failures, bad luck will likely prevent the desired outcome again in the future.
How can I shift from a permanence mindset when I’ve been facing setbacks for a long time? Simply telling myself that it’s just a one-time or rare occurrence doesn’t seem convincing to my brain.
Thanks again for providing this. Your films made a big difference today in a group focussed on self esteem and communication... Provided through the disability royal commission in Australia. Your work is relatable and thankfully accessible. Very helpful in the psycho social realm:))
Hey @Self-Help Toons, is it possible that religious concept of "Humbleness" was the root cause of pessimistic explanatory styles? For years I have had struggled with guilt and shame whenever I recognize my positive traits (beauty, intelligence, resilience...). I struggle celebrating my birthday and successes, and it all boils down to guilt of being arrogant and egocentric. In the latinx culture catholicism is our driving force and we say things always happen because and for God. There's also a negative perception in spiritual practices such as meditation because they put human as their own driver.
Sure, that sounds possible. Seligman describes humility as a character strength that allows you to be humble without downplaying your strengths and talents www.viacharacter.org/character-strengths/humility
I really want to let you know how much I appreciate your work and how much you help me. I’m doing terribly financially right now, I wish I could send you some money. I’m sorry.
I think we need to be more clear when explaining Seligman's Personalized. "It's not my fault" is not an optimist response. In the example of the soduku, we could say, "That puzzle was hard today. I get some, I lose some. I will try again tomorrow" We have to be careful how we relay this content. There are some folks out there who do not want to take responsibility for their personal development, ethics and life in general. The last thing we want these narcissistic, self-absorbed ppl to be saying is, "It's not my fault." And then claim they are being an optimist.

I remember once being an optimist but after a number of disappointments became more pessimistic. Great to know how I can change back!
Thank you

Very good content and presentation 👏
Thank you so much so grateful for you and everything you shared. Lots of love and prayers from Egypt ❤️
In reality, even the optimistic ones are susceptible to leaned helplessness. I'm the perfect example. It just takes longer to happen.
The content is great! 😊 If the narrating voice sounded less monotone and more optimistic it would be much better to listen to.
