- Adam is back in the studio following the holiday break and delivers his annual State of the Union where he announces some big changes for the new year, namely the departure of Gina and Bryan from the show. Next, Adam is joined by comedian Jay Mohr who talks to Adam about his recent hair transplant procedure, his recovery from drugs following a difficult intervention, and his engagement to Los Angeles Lakers owner, Jeanie Buss. Jay revives his 1920’s porn reporter impression before getting into the greatest basslines of all time.

Bombshell announcements usually come at the start of the new year. I’ve experienced all of them on this show as a listener since episode 1. Not shocking, but a little surprised. I had anticipated some sort of restructuring coming with an out of state move on the horizon (btw, SO excited for Adam’s new chapter outside of that cesspit of California ((I left in 2018 myself)). I think the show going forward will be very interesting and exciting. I love that Dawson and Chris are still a presence. Their personalities and input are neutral and not politically divisive for the most part.
Sorry to hear about Adam’s mom passing. I kept my personal experience with that private as well for a long time.
I think this new chapter of ACS is very excited and promising.

Prayers for you Adam, could feel the heaviness of life in your opening, no one is immune to the storms and trials. Been watching and listening to you for years, so sharp and practical regarding the mindset we should be trying to uphold in this country. Of course I don't agree with everything you say but I sure echo most of the same sentiments. That's why I subscribe my friend. Get it on!

As someone who has been through rehab and worked the steps, I'm so glad to see Jay's recovery in progress. I used to listen to him in LA years ago when he did mid-morning radio and I've missed him. He has so much talent and it could have been a very different outcome. Everything he says about Jeanie is true. I worked for the Lakers and I'm so glad she saved him.

My father and Dustin Portman were good friends. His passing shocked a lot of people. Surreal to hear he and Ace were friendly.
I wish you the best, Adam. I've been a fan since way back in your earlier Loveline Days and the Man Show. You truly are a comedic genius, your wit is unmatched, you've always been one of the most logical voices out there, and stay true to your beliefs. You truly are one of the funniest people I have ever listened to. Dave Chappelle would be the funniest as far as pure, written comedy goes. But you are #1 when it comes to off the top humor.
You've dealt with A LOT recently, and I completely understand where you're coming from. You have done an amazing job of keeping your recent personal issues out of your work, which I know can be very difficult. I hope you know you have a large, dedicated fanbase cheering for you, buddy. I love you man, you have gotten me through my own difficult times, and I hope you have something or someone to help you through yours.

@@badlaamaurukehu bald annoyed me pretty regularly but one time I made the mistake of mentioning that since Adam wasn't on one of the shows I could skip it and Gina blocked me on Twitter for that. Literally the only thing I'd ever said with her tagged in it at that point.
@@JeremyZimmerman Bald was better since doing the improv classes ~6 years ago, but Gina's shrill voice paired with her incredibly annoying stories and retarded insights wont be missed by me.
@@TheEvenG I fully agree, he was mostly a sound drop guy and shit stirrer before that but he did actually get some chops when he took those classes. Still annoyed me two or three times per episode.

He's finally moving out of Commyfornia. Good for him. Unfortunately, it took the death of his mother and a divorce to get him to do it. They can't come with him.
Gina earnestly complained about a lousy $400 deductible. Meanwhile she got a huge cosmetic surgery. She doesn't know *how* to be grateful.
Good Lord I did not see this coming.
All the jobs that I had the boss was always separate basically just acquaintances... easier to let us go, a lot tougher for Adam.

Who didn't? They were both antithetical to the core. The shows with the other crew and without these two were refreshing to anyone who's been following for more than a minute.

Anybody who's been listening to Adam's podcast since the beginning can tell you how many times the show has changed format. Adam went hard in the beginning with solo interviews, but then would also do a show with Teresa and Bryan on news and stuff. Then Teresa left, and it changed again. He focused on making a lot of different podcasts and getting others on his network. Then he hired Alison, that lasted way too long, cut that cord, and had a bunch of different people fill in for news before ending up with Gina. Looks like the show will be interview focused again, which many people like the best.
I nvr thought Adam would let Brian go, but it really is for the best. There's only one real reason that Adam would logically do this; it just wasn't working out anymore in that format, with those people. He was sandwiched in between 2 people who absolutely disagreed with so much of his politics and general way of thinking, which is fine for conversation. But it really got weird anytime they hardcore tried push back on Adam's more serious political points, like they were taking shit personally.
I'm sure they'll be fine.
I didn't mind Bald and Gina overall. Bryan's book helped me understand what a friend of mine that died from cancer might have gone through.
I'm with you on the political stuff and what was weird about it all to me is Gina and Bald would "AGREE" with Adam on about 85% of things (or at least listen intentively and find the grey), but then go off and vote for the Gavin Newsoms of the world.

She could never tell you why she felt someway or had a certain opinion she just did couldn’t back it up. Just repeating talking points no thoughts of her own except of course, when celebrating the extraordinary gays.
Her opinions were and takes on situations were pretty superficial and naive. I’m not sure if she was doing a bit or what…she seemed to have good energy but with no substance…imho.

Brian had the same inane takes. My biggest issue is how they both would completely skip and blatently ignore facts and updates on stories when that information didn't suit their fancy but was commonaly available. Good riddance.
Adam, you are a gifted talent and deserve to do your thing. I hope Gina and Bryan move on and do well. I look forward to the more focused structure with Adam and the off screen crew welcoming interesting guests with stories that we haven't heard before. I will enjoy the prospect of hearing guests get full thoughts and multiple sentences out before an awkward tangent changes everything.

Man, losing a career is tough. Going through divorce is really tough. Been through/going through both right now. Rough start to the new year, but hopefully things turn around for all involved!

I thought Chris's trending topics were some of the best parts of the show. Reminded me of listening to the older shows with Teresa S, who would really like to see her making more appearances, it was great chemistry.
Those shows were a refreshing break from the other two flakes.
first full episode of ACS I've listened to in awhile. I switched to Reasonable Doubt a couple of years ago. Change is good for everyone. Ace, keep your chin up!! Gina & Bryan will be A OK
The first 10 minutes or so was so surprising and Adam being more open than I have heard. First letting Gina and Bryan go, then talking about how bad the divorce is going and not how it was to be. Then this mother dying a few months ago. Finally him revealing about the ski trip with his new girlfriend, first time I think he mentioned her. The new show is off to a good start, wishing Adam the best this year, with more Dawson and Chris.
If there is still a Dawson and Chris. Adam fires people all the time.
None of this was news.
This feels a bit like Stern shifting to a more "serious interviewer" mode in recent years. I'll still listen, and I'm open-minded about the possibility that I'll still enjoy the show as much. Having said that, I really enjoyed the more "morning radio" format, and Bald and Gina's contributions to that format. In particular, I enjoyed the conversational-style portions of the show. All the best to Adam, and to Gina and Bald. I hope everything works out great for all three of them, both personally and professionally.

Damn! I had a baby last year and had fallen off the Podcast. Realized today I needed to dive back in and found out all of the revelations.

One thing I like about the YMH podcasts is that you can hear the guys laughing in the control room. Being able to hear Chris and Dawson laugh in the background was a great addition. Hopefully you make it work without bald and Gina. Sad to see them go.
No it’s not, listening to those guy’s forced cackling made me stop listening to all the YMH podcasts. I like the natural laughter of Mike and Chris, but don’t make it a thing.

I've been listening to Adam Carolla since the mid 90's, off and on. I just started listening again and needed to find out why Gina and Bryan were not there. This is so heart breaking.
This actually does make sense because in the last couple of months Adam has had the guest sit closer to him and Gina Grad was at the far end of the table.
