    Also, thank you guys for being budget friendly. The budget cedh community gets so much flak because "it's not cedh, just proxy" but people fail to realize that cedh is a mindset and gameplan, not JUST all the best cards. It really helps ease casual players into a cedh mindset as well, and normally how much they would pay to build a normal casual deck. I can say that the reason I'm a cedh player now is because of budget brews that I've fallen in love with and slowly upgraded.

    • @Narabedla4
      @Narabedla4 3 года назад +11

      this so much.
      you build a competetive style deck fundamentally different to a normal casual deck, independant of budget. Especially as someone who thinks budget breeds creativity, i would love to find a playgroup for a kind of budget cEDH pod (though at the moment, i don't have time for that)

    • @bevans224
      @bevans224 3 года назад +5

      @@Narabedla4 if you join the cedh budget discord there are plenty of us with a bunch of budget deck lists. The link.os in the cedh reddit! Although it's mainly for budget brews, some of us have made a pod, which is really nice!

      I don't think easing casual players into cEDH should be a thing unless that casual player is willing to play a different sub format like cEDH and considers it to be a different format with a different meta and focused on a spike mindset of winning at all costs. This will be a quicker adjustment and allow people to not think about pubstomping battlecruiser type players.

      @@CapsFan117 I agree, but my original comment was talking about people who want to play cedh or higher power but don't know where to begin. Thank you for clarifying though

      I completely agree with this. Everyone just tells me "proxy this and proxy that" but I'm also a collector and I don't like proxing cards I don't own because it feels wrong to me. (Idc if others do tho) . My kalamax deck is 550 and it hand itself pretty well but that's only because I've played it so much and know every in and out. My gitrog... 150 no proxys. You are very correct CEDH IS A MINDSET

    • @milna64
      @milna64 3 года назад +21

      Niv is a great deck to build budget without losing anything. The curiousity/ophidians eye/tandem lookout combo cards are cheap and your game plan is largely stalling the game out till you draw them so - you don't need expensive tutors.
      What you need:
      15-20 0-2 mana counters (at least a couple free ones like misdirection and foil)
      15-20 mana cards - mostly 0-2 mana rocks but cards like rite of flame and treasonous ogre are also good.
      32-38 land. As many dual lands as you can fit, then mostly islands especially if you wanna run moon.
      You don't need many creatures but baral, glinthorn bucanneer (for an extra combo out) captain lannery, spell skite are good (along with tandem lookout of course).
      Some stax elements are useful, blood moon, mystic remora, grafdiggers cage, cursed totem, stranglehold. Mileage may vary depending on your meta.
      Other important cards: snapback, mogg salvage, submerge, cyclonic rift, cantrips, fact or fiction, pongify, rapid hybridisation, rolling earthquake, pyroclasm. For a more casual meta amp up on the board wipes.
      If you wanna run windfall/other wheels effects throw in a market. The wheels seem nice but you're generally looking for hand sculpting, not draw since you want to stick a niv and keep it around, and he'll draw all the cards you need.
      Hope this has helped.
      Edit: if you have spare budget you'll wanna add dockside and both forces first. Then, Fierce guardianship and deflecting swat. Next Imperial recruiter as it finds glinthorn and lookout for either half of the combo.

    Wizards needs to just reprint cards at this point. I understand that SCG has dropped Legacy as a supported format, but LGS DO still have Legacy/Vintage events (not to mention EDH) that people can't get into because of the (increasingly) ridiculous price points.
    This was an extremely fun game to watch, but the fact that one card is responsible for over half of the expenses of the budgetless Blue decks is insane.

    I must thank you guys to bring me into the format. I got interested in building a more casual Krark/Sakashima list from one of your previous videos, but it was still too powerful for my regular playgroup. So this morning I got to brewing and made it into an actual cEDH list, and joined a Tabletop Simulater discord server and got my first few games in. Got SUUUUUPER lucky with my krark triggers (they always removed one of my krarks so never had more than one until the very end), managed to find an opening and push through a dualcaster/twinflame combo for the win. While at 1 life, with the thrassios/bruse pod player trying to kill me since T1 for the cursed totem I had down.
    So again, thank you for showing me how much fun competitive edh can be.

      It's really not. Wizards tells people that they won't keep reprinting certain cards because the player's back then were getting mad that their cards' value tanked. People then literally invest in those cards just because of Wizard's promise. They can't go back on their word now because it would result in huge backlash from the investor community. "think of the rich people" as an argument would work if those rich people's lives were completely ruined financially because of the proposed policy, which is actual what would happen if certain cards were reprinted.

    What I've been growing to dislike more and more about cEDH is the overuse of the same card pool over and over again in every deck, simply because they're known to be the most optimal, efficient cards available. No one wants to deviate from the proven formula or try something different just for the sake of spicing it up. Playing on a budget restriction forces you to make choices that can lead to something fun and interesting. Something a little different. This was refreshing to watch, great job gentlemen.
    Still sucks that Thassa's Oracle won yet another cEDH game

    What is the win condition in the anje deck? I know you can make infinite mana and get infinite etb triggers with it but you need a payoff in order to convert those into wins right? Also I was looking at the anje deck list and I’m curious, why is street wraith in there?

    • @pflotus
      @pflotus 3 года назад

      Comet Storm or Avacyn's Judgement with the infinite mana or the Sunscorched Desert etb triggers are the wincons in this list.

    • @WhiteWizard42
      @WhiteWizard42 3 года назад +1

      correct. "enters the battlefield with" and "as ~ enters the battlefield" are replacement effects. Triggered abilities start with "when", "whenever", or "at". So if it doesn't say When or Whenever, Hushbringer doesn't affect it.

  • @SiwelYhtomit
    @SiwelYhtomit 3 года назад

    Alright I'm dumb and just starting to get into cEDH from casual play, but the only wincon I see in the Anje list is the Comet Storm off an infinite Worldgorger/Animate Dead(etc) mana combo. I see the red counterspells and redirects, but with a telegraphed combo like that won't people just hold up the mana to counterspell? Or are you relying on the fact that drawing most of your deck will put the counterspells in your hand to keep the combo safe?

    • @milna64
      @milna64 3 года назад +2

      Anje is an extremely fragile one chance combo. It's also very fast and easily assembled. Playing the deck well has a lot to do picking your moment carefully.

    • @SiwelYhtomit
      @SiwelYhtomit 3 года назад

      @@milna64 thanks! Makes more sense. Wouldn’t something like impact tremors or dragon tempest make it more stable? Or is the 2 extra mana too much?
