    If you have a heatsink on the NvMe M.2 SSD that you are going to use on the bottom part of this motherboard, do you have any problems installing it? Do you have to remove or add anything onto the motherboard in order to fit it? Only reason I am asking is that I have a 2tb WD 850 Black with heatsink on it, and I want to use that on the motherboard.

    • @UnhingedSystems
      @UnhingedSystems  3 года назад

      The motherboard itself doesn't come with a backplate. The motherboard water-cooling mono-block from EK definitely comes with a backplate, if you didn't get one in the box contact EK. The backplate is just a simple metal backplate with a blue gasket to go in between the backplate and the motherboard. Any heatsinks that need a backplate should come with their own.

    are you using 3600 or 3200 RAM? i was using the 64GB 3600 rgb pro c18 from corsair but i was getting random crash to deskstop on my games and the tech suport from MSI told me it was a RAM issue so i replaced the 16x4 for 8x4 3200 non RGB and is working great. i was thinking to get a set of 16x4 RBG platinum but they are a bit pricy on amazon at the moment.

    • @UnhingedSystems
      @UnhingedSystems  3 года назад

      Thanks for the comment! I am using 3600 MHz RAM in all my AMD 5000 builds. RAM is a fickle beast and depending on things like the length of the traces between the CPU and the RAM slots mileage may vary. It is always best to choose a RAM kit either on the QVL list for your motherboard or to ensure the RAM manufacturer has stability tested it on your board.

    • @UnhingedSystems

      For 128GB you may run into issues finding a good kit that will run at the rated timings out-of-box. Your best bet is to check the motherboard QVL list and pick from the 128 options there and pick a kit that suits your build. I went with 64GB for mine but I am not doing any really heavy 3D work, just basic rendering. HX436C18FB3K4/128 Hyper-X kit for example is on the QVL list rated with 4 DIMMS.

    Just completed this build, and unfortunately had to only use 1 stick of RAM. I purchased Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 3600 (PC4-28800) C18 AMD Optimized Memory - Black. Everything is working just fine, but the system won't take more than this single stick. I keep receiving error code 0d. Any ideas?

    • @UnhingedSystems
      @UnhingedSystems  2 года назад +1

      Which model number is the RAM kits? It might not be compatible. Do both sticks work in the one slot?
      If the system won't boot with the RAM (not using DOCP/XMP settings) then either bad RAM or bad Motherboard potentially. If you try all sticks in the first slot (B2) and all boot to Windows and work properly, but if you fill the first and second slot (make sure you fill the correct 2 slots for a 2 dimm configuration B3/A2) and it errors out (again without DOCP/XMP) then it's probably the board. If you swap the sticks in the first slot to be populated (B2) and one stick causes it to fail then bad stick.

      @@UnhingedSystems CMW32GX4M2Z3600C18 -- test both sticks in the furthest slot from CPU and when adding 2nd stick (2nd over from CPU) it errors out with the orange light and "0d" as the code. • @UnhingedSystems
      @UnhingedSystems  2 года назад +1

      @@kylejped The second slot to the right from the CPU is the one that should be populated in single DIMM configs. Try both sticks individually in that slot. If they don't work in that slot then it's a bad slot.
      Even if the RAM isn't in the compatibility list, it should have no issues booting up at stock DDR4 speeds without DOCP/XMP.
      It sounds like you might have a faulty board.
      Keep in mind up to approximately 1 of 100 (1%) of hardware passes QC but still fails within a year. Electronics are fickle that way.

      CMK32GX4M2Z4000C18 is available in 2x16 for 32GB but no guarantees it will run at 4000 (2000 fclk), 2 DIMMS will get you into 4000 MHz ranges but may still need some manual tuning (it is on the Dark Hero 5000 series memory QVL list)
      CMT64GX4M4Z3600C16 is on the QVL list for 4x16 (64GB) and 3600C16 is decent enough.
      CMT32GX4M4K3600C16 is 4x8 (32GB) and has reasonable timings.
      These are from the supported QVL list. If you are going 4x8 or 4x16 you will want to get something that manufacturer specifically lists as compatible with your board (GSkill and Corsair all have search by motherboard into their sites).
      For 3600MHz CL16 or CL18 is fine and should run well on your system. 2x16GB will have higher compatibility in most cases.
      If you want 3800MHz memory or 4000MHz memory then 2x16 is the way to go and I would check with the QVL list as well as the brand's website to ensure they list the kit as compatible.

      Hey! That particular kit isn't listed as verified for the Dark Hero / 5000 series combination. That being said the kit may not run at its rated timings just by simply setting the DOCP settings, you may need to relax the timings a bit. 64GB kits are a little more challenging because they put a little extra stress on the memory controller and depending on many things the kit may or may not run at rated timings without relaxing the timings a bit.
      Gskill themselves list it as compatible with the Dark Hero.
      My RAM wasn't on the list either, but it works fine. If anything you may need to relax from CL16 to CL18. Since it is a 2-dimm kit you may have better luck with it.

I have purchased a LOT of tools over the years including cheap PC repair tool kits. The iFixit tools use very good quality bits and are super convenient. There are certainly better or more affordable tool kits out there but when I choose which tools to reach for I tend to grab the iFixit ones. I have yet to strip a bit which is a pass in my books. I have had so many other kits where the bits are very soft metals and just shear right off. I'm not saying iFixit is great or anything, but I have zero complaints about the quality of the bits which is the most important thing for me with any tool set. Popular brands definitely are popular because they have been strategically able to market to their audience in a very effective way. Apple, for example, is popular because of brand recognition and marketing. A lot of non-technical people that own iPhones can't even explain more than 15% of the features on their phone to another user, and most can't do basic things unless it's something they do every day, yet somehow Apple is still extremely popular and a status symbol of wealth and style (I very much dislike Apple products tbh, if you couldn't tell! I do, however, have a deep respect for how much they have helped to advance technology and create competition in the market).
      Lots of popular RUclipsrs get paid for iFixit advertising (I don't have any sponsorships), but unfortunately the name of the game is profit for most people and we see lots of channels promoting products that aren't even good just to make a buck.
