  • On 23 October 1986, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh inspected the large contingent of Gurkha troops stationed in Hong Kong. The Gurkha Brigade band welcomed the Duke with a fanfare of bagpipes and a wreath of flowers.
Still a dependent territory of the UK, Hong Kong would remain so for another 11 years until 1997, when it was "handed over" to the People's Republic of China. The Duke's visit to the Gurkhas took place during a visit to the island by Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip.

An amazing man. Who was a true Prince Consort . Duty to the Monarchy, the Country , and the Commonwealth. He gave up his name, and his position in order to serve. This country did not realise how much he gave until he died. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II loved him and stood her ground when her husband to be, Prince Phillip, was thought to be, unsuitable for her. How very wrong they were. He was a great man and I am so very grateful for the service he gave. Rest in Peace Sir. God bless the senior Royals.🇬🇧🌹🙏🏻🤗🙏🏻

In a time when it was not approved of for a man to be number 2. He was confident to let his wife tske first place. Not like his son Charles who threw a tantrum everytime his first wife got more attention than him.

@@marj.antonius7016 Not approved of to be a number 2? Huh? It was, especially as it's not the first time that a man became a prince consort (Prince Albert).

We the Gorkhas..revere the Royal Family. Today many native British may look upon the Royals as the leftover custom from a bygone era, which has now become archaic and obselete. But to the Gorkhas, Royal Blood is a Royal Blood.

The great regret is that the 4 Gurkha Rifles regiments have been amalgamated into 1 regiment. All 4 were unique and served well in the post WW2 period, especially in the Malayan Emergency and the Indonesian Confrontation.
