    i love how this is the last true song you hear from the game outside of ambience. its like the game is telling you theres no happy ending, just an ending filled with lonliness and confusion.

      GTA V and Red Dead Redemption, in my opinion, should be viewed on their own merits as opposed to being compared. Their plots, tones and themes are vastly different, and I'd sooner be comparing GTA IV, with its dark story, brooding protagonist (who also happens to be the best written GTA protagonist), colorful cast, and Rockstar's signature sense of humor sprinkled here and there, to Red Dead Redemption.

    I just beat this game last night. John's death hit me hard. I didn't expect you'd be Jack so quickly, so I hated the trip to find Edgar Ross. I was wondering how in the hell would I adjust to not playing with John. I sat through the credits thinking you couldn't skip them.. and then this song played. The entire game just shot through my eyes, and I legit almost started crying. Couldn't believe just how attached I got to this game. Arguably my favorite game of all time. Incredible.

    After rdr2, this really hurts a lot more. After everything John did to live up to Arthur's expectation of leaving the life of crime and the threat of punishment, John in 1911, two years older than Arthur was when he died, is under the exact same pressure the gang was in 1899: Federal agents in increasing control of the personal lives of men whose savage profession has finally met its end in the face of a modernization dictated by railway and telegraph. John is now being sent to New Austin, one of the last truly free holdouts of a once roaring wild west, but ironically, John goes there with a leash on his neck. By the time the dust settles, John may not make it out with his own life, but will have done so to save that of his family as Arthur once did so many years ago.
    Much like the Wild West itself, John too fades into legend, a relic of a bygone age of gunslingers and cowboys, rolled over by raillines and telegraph lines.

    • @Pedro_Le_Chef
      @Pedro_Le_Chef 2 года назад +11

      John did what Arthur failed to do: Protect his own wife and son.
      One man abandoned his family to continue a life of crime while the other left the life of crime and sacrificed his life for his family.
      Arthur gave his life for the better man to do what was right. It didn't bring his family back but it saved Abigail and Jack.

      OP, enough with alluding the glorification of alluding an era to which Humans have been in and equating that to 'gunslingers and cowboys' when it's clearly not JUST that...
      the whole point of RDR1s theme is that from a balanced perspective of both era's... both are horrible because of the circumstances that lead humans into this which by itself is 'Human Nature' - this era that you spoke about was nothing more than morally depraved acts committed by Humans, there's various factors to allude of the Wild West era such as different ideologies that ppl have especially on how Freedom and liberty is viewed upon the Wild West etc.

    Song hits a bit too hard for me, the games end sent me to tears when I first played but this song.... had an audio rip on my MP3 player that decided the perfect time it needed to play was during a move. Had my entire existence packed away in my small car, driving in the middle of the night in complete darkness (no street lights, not many other drivers, moon was blocked out by the clouds), right when I hit the state line leaving California into Oregon I fucking mentally broke down. I had my life completely collapse on me, most of my family die in the past few months prior, felt everyday was a fight with how many folks were doing me dirty near daily, & completely losing everything I fought for. Overall felt like my own death just happened right at that moment and this damned piece was there to curate that moment, beautiful in its own but absolutely heart wrenching with added context.

    1. There is always a second chance available to those that truly seek to redeem themselves
    2. No matter how hard your life gets, no matter how though things get, and even if your fate is to die because of the injustice this ugly world has; a man has the power to change himself and ultimately redeem himself even when pitted against monumental obstacles.

    One of the saddest ending I’ve ever seen in any game it took my breath away I couldn’t believe that a game can make you feel so sad. It some how gave me a feeling that I got to think about life more cos you don’t know what you got till it’s gone and fight till the end.

      You made it ironic for Ross if you think about the agent who set you on his Trail when you're playing as Jack that last mission. I want to believe that the bureau in the American government found out about him using John and holding his family hostage and all that s*** including covering it up by killing John. Meaning if that's true even if Ross at successfully killed Jack he still would have had many assassination attempts likely so they could cover up his actions you know, when it got out of his previous actions including what I said with John, he was going to sell for the fade all these heroes in history have always suffered when their previous crimes have come to light like kernel kustard is a very good example he was viewed as a tragic hero upon his death but it didn't take long before he became the joke that history will forever remember him as. Same with Hoover. In the end once Ross became useless did the civilization he sacrificed his life and everything for, they tossed them aside and gave him to Jack, in the exact same manner he used John to kill his former gang members. Remove him in a fashionable manner increase sympathy for him and then when the inevitable happens then anyone finds out the true story of John Marston which could be true if that Easter Egg in GTA V that book that Franklin has called Red Dead means Red Dead Redemption takes place in the past of the Grand Theft Auto universe. It means John was Vindicated, Jack at least was able to get the life that his father and mother and Arthur Morgan wanted for him. Even if a good amount of his young adult life was him doing the same things they did, at least you got a happy ending. And if everything I said was true then that also means Ross got villified, everything he did every rotten action he took all came back to bite him in the ass he did not die a peaceful death and what seems ironic if you play Red Dead Redemption 2 is he finds John and only comes a knocking 3 years after the epilogue. The epilogue for the first game was three years after John Dies if I remember straight he'll there's so much irony would Ross and Jack including the fact the first time they met Canon wise was him fishing with Arthur Morgan, makes ironic that the last time they met Ross was fishing and Jack appeared with a gun just as he did. It just makes Ross's death even more poetic. But yeah everything John did just to keep his happy life was all destroyed because Ross wanted to become famous from taking down Dutch's gang without doing the heavy work himself and of course cover up a loose end even if John would have tooken all that s*** to his grave if you had just been left the peacefully live out his life with his family. In a funny way the second game had the same thing too if you left Micah be. Then Ross likely would have never found him, and had Ross just left John and his family be, Jack wouldn't have come after him years later and killed him. It's like the entire Redemption series is all about revenge being meaningless in the end you might get some satisfaction from me but in the end nothing ever good comes out of it, just negative Karma, everyone loses.

    Well, no. He's expressing his feelings for a truly memorable character, and he's right. John Marstons death wasn't one of a sudden death, or dramatic, it just happened. But when it happened, you got the actual feeling that someone had left you. The overall story the revolved around that of Red Dead Redemption was amazing, as one of the top comments states, one of the best out there. With everything you go through as John, it has hard to see him pass. Though we still have Jack, John was awesome.

    John Kirby and Chris Heckman created the most stunning song in a video game I have ever heard. It has so much emotion in it that, I can't even describe what I feel while listening to it... And the ending key change just completely melted my heart. This is the most brilliant sound track ever. I'm being a typical girl right now but this game made me cry twice haha. When John died, and during this song...

    Just got to this series 2 months ago. Played this one first and felt very little for it. Then I played 2…didn’t think I was gonna like it at first due to the complicated controls / character and horse maintenance, but once the story started picking up I really enjoyed it. Then I played that one again because I skipped a lot of the side missions the first time, finished it and headed back to this one with the second still fresh in my mind. All I have to say is wow. It was a slow burn but they got me. Sitting here crying manly tears. Lol.
