In the beginning version of the song it still shows western Instruments, but in the end it has no western Instruments, showing industrialization has won.
After beating RDR2, this is so much more sad. Almost depressing actually. All the hard work John did, we finally got to see everything. The man truly wanted to not only change himself, but the lives of those around him. When Jack kills Ross (especially if he kills his wife and brother), everything that John worked for, ended as soon as Jack pulled the trigger on Ross. Jack became what his father never wanted him to be: A killer. Red Dead Redemption is truly amazing.
Red Dead Redemption is, and always will be one of my all-time favorite games. It told such a hauntingly grim and violent, yet gratifyingly beautiful story of the decline of the Wild West, the advancements in the fields of technology, and what evils man can commit with and without a gun, and with and without a badge or mask to hide behind. John Marston has forever been cemented as one of my favorite protagonists in gaming. His redemption was so impactful because he sacrificed everything for his family after he'd spent his life screwing things up for those around him, giving his life to ensure his family's safety from the government. Exodus in America speaks so well to the player because it embodies the characteristics of what makes Red Dead Redemption such a masterpiece. The sorrow, the pentience, the hollowness and loneliness of it all, and yet it flourishes, like John rising above what he once was, confronting his past and finishing it once and for all, before ensuring his family's future. Rockstar created a true gem, giving us a truthful look at the final days of the Wild West, through the eyes of a tortured soul, and it never fails to evoke an endless array of overriding emotions from so many. It's no wonder fans clambered for a sequel (well, prequel), and it shows. Red Dead Redemption is, simply put, beautiful.
I remember listening to this after seeing the ending and crying my eyes out. Now most of the time I listen to it I nearly cry. This song is so gorgeous!
Before everyone starts commenting about Arthur, this comment was from a decade ago. With that out of the way, what did you think of Arthur Morgan's story?
Honestly Arthur’s story was amazing and I played RDR2 before knowing anything of the original. Have said that, I love John as a character even more and find his tale even more tragic. The end of RDR1 feels 10x more empty and hollow than RDR2… John, the legend of the west, the old west itself and the gang have all passed… Jack has nobody left in the world.
Also, in a way, Arthur’s redemption was forced on him when he got TB and re-evaluated his life. John chose it of his own free will. On top of that, Arthur was a dead man walking from chapter 2… John in the very end, chose to stop running and walked out to his death so his family would be free… beautiful stuff. I can only imagine what Arthur would have felt if he’d lived and been the one to find John laying in a pool of blood at the end… would have shattered the man. Utterly beautiful couple of games that will stick with me for a long, long time and this piece of music is fitting of the end of John, the end of the gang, the end of the Wild West.
@@festyfestiva John's death is very much the end of the Wild West. That's exactly how I view it. He really did walk so Jack could run, as Arthur once did. That being said, on the subject of Arthur, his redemption was more impactful in my opinion; his TB made him reevaluate his life and led him to save so many lives from the inevitable. And that's the key word; inevitable. Arthur's sacrifice led those who cherished him the most to destroy what he'd created for the Marstons, as John chose to go along with Sadie and Charles to Mount Hagen to take Micah out. Arthur swore against revenge, and that revenge killed John's hope for a normal life.
Yeah I respect that… I dunno, Johns story just hits harder for me personally… in fact playing RDR1 after going through the second has made the original have such a stronger feeling of bleakness to me… it’s all coming to an end and after everything that happened in 2, there’s a finality to number 1 that I feel from the first moment, everything catches up in the end. Also, John in RDR1 is such a hard man, very old school western movie type of character and, although Arthur insults John in 2 for “trying to sound intelligent”, you can tell in 1 that he actually is a very intelligent and insightful man but he doesn’t seem to go as deep emotion wise as Arthur did, he simply carries on to get his mission/s done. All in all I’d say John may be my all time favourite video game character and Arthur is a close second.
I'm so jealous of people playing this masterpiece for the first time, I'd give everything to just jump into both redemption games without knowing what happens, This was also one of the only video games to make me cry, it's truly a work of art I can't describe.
Exodus in America in the beginning of the game is John's two battling ideals and lives. Exodus in America in the credits is the acceptance of those ideals and lives. It's kinda saddening, but I like to think John found comfort in knowing that him dying means his family wouldn't be in constant danger anymore.
You could say this is the unofficial RDR1 theme but we all know that it has a theme but we don’t hear it in the game besides on the soundtrack, so you can kinda agree that this is its unofficial theme song which tells a story that you can realise that the end of the Wild West has finished as the industrial era has taken control and swallowed the Wild West up and destroy its image as the sky is filled with smoke and rain is more common than sun showing the age of the outlaws had come to an end and the 20th century has begun in America... RIP John Marston 1873-1911 a legend with no hate, a legend with no chance, a legend turned and changed from his criminal ways seeking redemption, as he realises he is reaching the end of his life knowing he should move forward to heaven and it’s bright lights just to meet Arthur on the doorstep of the gates, as the barn door that he opens slightly to look out to see the army there and as he closes the door he thinks about his life choices as time freezes as he is made a choice, he can’t change the past but he can use his actions to preserve and make a difference in the future as time unfreezes as he opens the door of the barn and is ready for the moment to meet Arthur and Uncle and The other fallen gang members as he fires his cattlemen revolver one last time before taking 43 bullets to his body as he falls to his knees coughing up blood trying to breathe, he takes his final breath before leaning back to the soil never to stand again as was when he was an outlaw, Though an outlaw he has received his redemption for good as he slowly bleeds out as the army walks away...
Thanks o much for this, I just finished the playing the game today I never thought I would be so gutted about finishing a game but this has been one of the most brilliant games I've ever played and then I heard this played along with Jose Gonzales' Far Away it's really been a experiance, and you're like the only place I can actually find a high quaility version so thank you so much!
