wrong claims how steam gets to the pistons and when. Cat Ready, Bridle Tension, Stand-by, Final Ready, Launch complete - everything happening at once. Cat Receivers hold super heated steam that is now a gas and when it exposed it expands a 400 to 1 pressure amount that's available and only the opening of the launch valves controls how fast it applied to the two pistons - 18" in diameter each side. Wind over the deck and aircraft weight is used to give the 10 knots about their minimum flying speed leaving the cat.
This is the 21st century not the 80's. We live in a 1st strike reality, any enemy would use a long range tactical nuc causing an EMP to knock out a carrier force days before it met the enemy.

There is no denying it no matter who you support and why. The US has the best funded, most advanced, present everywhere and are truly diverse in all spheres of military. Be that as it may, in today's world of interconnected economies and rising living standards and diplomatic relations it is basically pointless to start any kind of war because there is nothing to be gained. Fleets will do their patrols and naval exercises and maybe sometimes pass near each other but that is about it. Besides nobody wants to attack first because the last thing anyone needs, especially US given the political climate is to be the aggressor, China will do its thing and wont make the first move and other regional countries either don't have a big enough budget or see no point or gain in building up more military presence. US is the only country that is pushing others to spend more and more on defense even if its not really necessary, is money best invested in the economy and a buildup will only result in higher tensions and make everyone involved spend more and more thus basically pissing away money best used elsewhere.

What will the carrier battle group do if they are attacked by drone swarms with microwave weapons that can fry all electronic components in the group; followed by missile swarms of DF 17s and 27s hypersonic anti-ship ballistic missiles? Can they last even an hour in the moderns battlefield? There might be no need for their opponent to bring out its DF 26s, 100s, 21Ds; J20s, 16s, 31s; H6Ks; SSNs and swarms of SS and SSNs.
