There are a few points you mentioned which are just not correct.
    1. The exploit mentioned is not going in casual lobbies and ending the rounds as fast as possible by everyone rushing mid/tunnel on D2, it was privately created deathmatch lobbies that were altered to give XP with the same table as a casual lobby.
    2. The exploit wouldn't cause any issues with supply and demand since everyone is limited to a set number of passes, therefore also a set number of stars. The only thing that was affected by the exploit is the speed in which people would max out their stars and therefore the amount of hours and matched played by the player. Valve obviously wants to incite the playerbase to play the game more with this pass and are therefore taking harsh action against people who used the exploit.

Thank you for clarifying! I really appreciate how concise this is. I pinned the comment

Set number of passes? What? I think you can buy as many as you want as long as you keep finishing them.

isn’t it limited to 5 per account? or is that just how many can run at once?

Just trade banning for a year is useless. That basically kinda helps them. In 1 year any skin they recieved will at least cost 50% more. Pfft.

I think the exploit would make more money cause players will buy more passes that means more skins that means more steam tax money

yes, but at the same time.. more skins in the marketplace drops the prices of said skin. if that happens, skins can become close to worthless.
Valve wants to control this, so that their items are still worth money. They’d rather have items on the market worth hundreds, even thousands of dollars instead of skins worth tens of dollars.
They make more money keeping a stable market, with stable skin prices instead of charging players $15 for a pass. You know?
