Man, it's impressive how you can make anything sound excellent. Great video as always, thanks.

yes it's true, but the HB Roswell pickups don't improve over time...always too many high frequencies and too few low frequencies...

@svtx yes, the strings are the most important thing after/together the pickups in the sound chain, but believe in me, the main problem are the Roswell pickups...I don't think that replacing the string would change something fundamental...but I'd be very curious to try the Thomastik flats (my point of reference) on this bass ;-)

@@luigi.zanini If the issue is just the amount of treble and bass, you have to AT LEAST try to EQ your bass before buying any upgrades. Just trying to save you money.

@@luigi.zanini are you talking about attack/articulation of the pickups or just the EQ (amount of treble mids and bass)? If it's the former, then yeah pickups, strings and even scale length are the issues.
But if you simply want to change the amount of bass/treble, I really don't see why "it wouldn't be enough", unless you want to boost like 40db at under 100hz if that's your thing.
It's not the 1980's anymore, to my ears, cheap pickups nowadays are capable of producing the whole 20Hz-10khz spectrum at least.
I can attest to this from how I play my passive Sire V5 5 string, Sire pickups are notorious for having "little low end", which is true if you don't do anything to your signal chain. But I found that I could just shape my sound with EQ and never worry about pickup upgrades just like on every bass I owned (Fender Aerodyne Jazz Bass, Ibanez BTB 555 [active], and now Sire V5), as long as I like the attack and clarity of the pickups.
Check my secondary channel, I do covers with my passive Sire and just shape my sound with EQ to fit the song the best. My sound is never the same everytime.

A bass with only a Precision bass pickup tends not to versatile-enough for the songs and rooms I play, but the availability of a Jazz Bass pickup or in this case a Stingray-style pickup in the bridge position makes this bass infinitely more tonally flexible and usable in gig situations.

    Hey Rainer,
you make every instrument sound killer, it makes it a little hard for me to evaluate sometimes - would love to know if you think the Jazz or Enhanced model has the best overall build quality 😻

I know that with a good EQ you can shape the sound and I am the first making this with a Sadowsky preamp pedal or setting my head eq, playing my Jazz or Precision bass…but starting with a good “natural” equalization on a good pickup can make the difference…but nothing that you cannot change replacing the pickups

Hi Rainer! Would you please let me know how do you record the bass signal? Any concrete preamp or DI? Despite you are an incredible talented player, even the cheapest basses in your reviews sounds always terrific!
