@@EmilyMcCosh I’m working on my own very first novel right now, seeing your videos and how dedicated you are, and your day to day life of being so independent in your craft and art. Inspired me heavily, keep being amazing Miss McCosh!
“No clue what I’m gonna do.” That’s code for “I’m gonna end up writing five separate things, finish something then rewrite. And then end up finding the swing with ONE thing and write it inhumanly fast.” And in my experience, it’s gonna be a fun time 😆. Also really excited for the sci-fi project. I haven’t read any sci-fi since dying in starlight (because I kept mourning it and couldn’t get into any new ones 😆) so this is just getting me excited again! Especially if you query it! Also, the moment you said you had the kickstarter on wind and the wild waiting, I immediately opened my phone and signed up because I never got an email for it. And gosh dang it if ima go broke, might as well be because of you 😆. And oml the plushie is so cute. I want it so bad. 😆. If my self control is so bad with this dude, how bad will it be with the Bat plush? Already accepting my fate of rebuying all of dying in starlight. Anyway, not much else to mention besides, Holy heck did the year fly by. I didn’t even realize it’s been a year for dying in starlight being finished 😭. Might be time for a re-read. Listen.............that's probably gonna end up happening, yes 🤣 Writing another sci fi will be great, I need those vibes in my life 😂 82 projects for the win! So many Kickstarters and plushies, so little time, haha! "Now we all know Iohmar is dramatic right?" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 just a tad, yes!
@@Ebony.B yes I have! If you’re new, I definitely suggest starting with ‘under the earth’ as it’s her debut novel! If you want something more action, start with dying in starlight! If you want short stories and a quick read. Go with ‘the woods she watches over’ 😊
@@Ebony.B definitely have 😆 I use story graph personally. All have either been 5 or 4 stars for me. Nothing lower. She’s definitely my favorite fantasy indie author that I’ve found so far and I read a TON 😂
Voting that you always keep Day around for every video from now on. He’s so cute!! 🥰 Also, I have to say, when I saw your title my reaction was “well, given it’s Emily, that might be accurate”. 😂
Cutest plushie ever! 😍 Also, because I found you last year when you were still working on IDS, I'm as shocked as you are that you haven't written Sci-Fi in so long 😮 All the best with your projects Emily!
Hi Emily! I have a question: how do you figure out shipping costs for Kickstarter? Especially international. They say you should budget for it as early as you can but it doesnt make sense to me until the actual products come in. And how does using something like Backerkit makes it easier? I just dont undertsand.
Hi! Okay, this always feels difficult to explain in writing so let me try and you can tell me if I'm just being confusing 😂 Shipping is always the scariest part haha! So, I like using a pledge manager like Backerkit (there are others, and now Kickstarter has a built in one, though I haven't used it) because I can 1) charge shipping when I actually have all the items and their weight, which is usually a few months after the campaign 2) charge the shipping based on country so you're charging backers more accurate rates than just US and international and 3) if you charge shipping separately, then Kickstarter isn't taking 10% of your shipping fees and messing with your budget. That makes it so you don't have to budget for shippiing early, which I wouldn't know how to do either, haha! If you're charging backers shipping after the campaign, as close to when you ship as possible, then you don't need to worry about planning ahead. You can give people a rough estimate during the campaign and just say that shipping prices may change. And with international backers, you can say in the campaign that backers need to pay their own customs, fees, VAT, etc. International backers are used to that, I've never gotten a complaint. So you don't need to worry about that either. With Backerkit specifically, they have a calculator that will give you estimated shipping for a dozen places all over the world. You can google "Backerkit shipping calculator" and test it out! After doing several campaigns, I've never lost money on shipping using that calculator. I think, if you use something other than Backerkit, places like Pirateship, Pledgebox, or the USPS website can give you estimates on shipping country to country. I also like Backerkit since they encourage grabbing add ons and extra copies, so I like them for a lot of reasons, even if they're complicated. Either way, I'd personally always use a pledge manager instead of charging shipping during the campaign. 😊 I think that covers it, hopefully that wasn't confusing! I might do a little Kickstarter Q&A if I get enough questions, and I'll talk about shipping again 😊
@EmilyMcCosh Oh, okay... Now, THAT makes a lot more sense. Thank you so much for putting in the time to write this! 😭 I've tried reading a couple of articles but I couldn't wrap my head around it. So for my initial budget I can leave out shipping for now. It's my plan to use backerkit since it seems like a popular option for fulfillment so I'm glad to hear they are useful. Thank you so much again, and I'm looking forward to joining in on your next kickstarter ❤️
@@everythingexploration707 Yeah no one really explains how shipping works, I had to spend way too much time initially figuring it out 🤣 Yeah, you can get estimates for shipping now and actually handle it after the campaign! Good luck!!
