I was contacted a couple of years ago by the prop master of the new Netflix Sci fi film Rebel Moon. They wanted me to make 2 smaller versions of the Black Palm End grain Sphere that I made, to be used in the film. They wanted them around 3" in diameter so they could fit in the palm of the hand, this made them a lot harder to make, but I thought they maybe would be used as a futuristic hand grenade or some kind of weapon. I didn't see them in the film so just presumed they didn't use them, but I have just found out they were used !! as a dogs toy 🤣🤣🤣 in a scene where the princess throws a ball !! For a Cane Corso dog to fetch ... oh well never mind ... its a cool film anyway ..

I cant imagine a custom woodworking piece is cheap, what a bizzare choice for such a simple prop. I always thought studios had a warehouse full of props on the lot, or made their props in house.
I bet the prop master just wanted one.
It's really upsetting that they only ended up using this for a dog toy - it's an absolutely gorgeous piece!! I hope you get the chance to have your work featured more in the future (and with a bit more respect for the craft!)

What's funny is, I remember watching that scene twice because my wife and I were trying to see what the princess was throwing. Definitely not what I would call a dog toy!! Beautiful work as always!

Yeah I’ve watched a number of other channels like this, trying to find more to watch (Sorry, Andy!). This one is far superior in every way and it’s not even close. They either talk too much or they’re pandering or the wood is meh or the pacing is weird or the final produce just isn’t that good. They’re not *bad,* but this channel just makes everyone else look bad :)

Nice piece. Idea use clear expoy and make it into a lamp then make hollow base with lights inside be cool lamp piece. Keep up good work.

Depending on the opacity of the resin such a sphere would work nicely as a table/nightstand lamp. 💡

I always cringe when I see woodturners woodturning plastic. There's no telling what the chemicals are that's being breathed in.
The Holy Hand Grenade of St. Andrew... that would have been cool... anyway, the Sacred Dog Toy of St. Phillips... cool enough.
I guess that's show business, for you. You think you're going to make it big but instead they throw you to the dogs. Beautiful piece that they should have made better use of.

As if I needed MORE reason to never watch the steaming turd that is Rebel Moon. They asked you to make some beautiful pieces, only to relegate them to a throwaway scene where they're used as DOG TOYS?! SERIOUSLY?! What an embarrassment. Frankly, if I was doing this and they came to me, I would ask them specifically what purpose the pieces would serve in the film. If I got a shitty answer or no answer at all, I'd promptly tell them to fuck off for wasting my time.
