- The “Key Casting Challenge” was started by Lucas on his channel Lundgren Bronze Studios.
After many years having fun learning and casting bronze jewellery I thought I’ll take up his challenge and have a go at casting a key that operates a lock.
Lucas is an awesome sculptor and makes some amazing videos for his channel showing his journey casting a variety of elaborate sculptures.
Here is a link to check out his channel.

Very cool to see how you did that! You did far better than I did. Thanks for accepting the challenge!
Well thanks for your incredibly inspiring videos. maybe one day I’ll have the confidence to try casting something a little larger than a spoon full of molten bronze. Until then I’ll carry on enjoying your fascinating videos instead … cheers … Nick
Dont know uf that was the easiest way to have a second key, but at least you can say i did it... and u can do it... ❤❤❤
oh I do like a challenge and love Lucas‘s fabulous channel … N
I'm planning to cast the keys to my old Mustang, using Silver Bronze and then mirror polish them.
Well good luck with that AmericanThunder, The fettling to fit was the frustrating bit … I nearly gave up … but got there in the end … N
Well done. It's not easy to cast so accurate a piece. Cheers. Jim
thanks Jim, I was dubious, but had to give it a go … I so nearly gave up, but then suddenly after enough filing it fitted the hole and worked. I was glad I chose a keyhole so close to my workbench … A car key would have been difficult … N
Nothing to it! Just a whole lot of work fettling! I had to look up that word!! 😂 You now have a brand new key!! I enjoyed that. Thank you, Nick!
thank Sandi, I seemed to be frantically fettling forever for it to fit … bit of an old English word I think … cheers … Nick
I've done this at the shreve building good times there
now nothing is safe with Delft Clay casting … N
Did you lock your shop at the end? Fun to see how casting is done at small scale!
Hi Richard, after hours of fettling I was ready to give up but after a few more rubs, it suddenly worked I now have a shiny spare key for my workshop .. N
@@Nickscreativestuff We see movies where people sneak a key from some evil corporation to make a copy. It's obviously MUCH harder than that! I too like the word fettling. Fun watch!
lovely nostalgic word conjure up the image of old men in metal workshops.
I was very tempted to get carried away with “furiously fettling for a fine fit” sort of thing … N
Cool!
Thanks Annette, bit of a side step to usual content … N
well done, you!
thanks for that jsl … N
all a bit of fun, didn’t really expect it to work … N
Pause screenshot now I have a key to your workshop 🤔😂
well, good luck with the fettling fiasco for a functioning fit … 🛠️🔑🔓
@@Nickscreativestuff 😂you win
Wouldn’t that be fun!😅
👍😎👍 … N
Is this molten silver bowl made of iron?
Hi Aa, the Crucibles I use sometimes called a Scorifier are made from fireproof ceramics … N
It has been a long time since I cast it with sand. Now it has failed many times and it has lost its shape. There is always a part of the shape that is missing.
I do love Delft Clay such a quality product. I occasionally have troubles with it, but normally the successes far outweigh the failures … N
Will your clay turn into fine sand when it dries? Mine needs to be mixed with some water before it can be used.
Delft Clay is bonded with oil so it never dries out … N
