I am born and brought up in Uttrakhand. I married in Jain family. All other functions were in Jain customs but I did not compromise in my Pahadi Haldi function. It was a huge function with all baanaas and pooja. Now My husband loved all pahadi songs. Loved it! Whenever I listen to garhwali songs, they just make me feel like I am at my 'home'. There's a connection that is hard to describe in words. I can speak fluent garhwali, even though I was born and grew up in the city but that's because my parents speak garhwali at home. Sometimes I think about the future of garhwali culture and I wonder where it will be in the next 20-30 years when the older generation dies. I visited my native village in Pauri Garhwal and felt really sad when I heard young kids speaking in Hindi with each other and with their parents. The language is dying and I wonder if it will become practically extinct in the upcoming 20-30 years. The only way to protect our culture is by introducing Garhwali/Kumaoni in all schools across Uttarakhand. We have an entire state and still, we are unable to make laws to conserve our culture. Culture dies when language dies.

I am garhwali from sumadi village nearby Sri nagar paudi garhwal. I was born in delhi and married to a punjabi girl. But I am still very much into our pahadi culture. I will try hard to create awareness amongst youth to have knowledge of our pahadi culture and never forget who you really are and it doesn't matter where ever you are living. I spent my childhood in my village and used to hear this song and have seen traditional garhwali marriages, I think of myself is a very lucky, now married to a Delhi girl who is garhwali too but have no knowledge about anything and no intrest too to know, I go to village to attend marriages thinking to see the old tradition to refreshed my memories but unfortunately everything is gone, they don't follow the old tradition and spent lot of money to have a marriage like like cities which is worst that is neither city marriage nor village marriage, wastage of money. So sad 😢😢.

Loved it! Whenever I listen to garhwali songs, they just make me feel like I am at my 'home'. There's a connection that is hard to describe in words. I can speak fluent garhwali, even though I was born and grew up in the city but that's because my parents speak garhwali at home.
Sometimes I think about the future of garhwali culture and I wonder where it will be in the next 20-30 years when the older generation dies. I visited my native village in Pauri Garhwal and felt really sad when I heard young kids speaking in Hindi with each other and with their parents.
The language is dying and I wonder if it will become practically extinct in the upcoming 20-30 years. The only way to protect our culture is by introducing Garhwali/Kumaoni in all schools across Uttarakhand. We have an entire state and still, we are unable to make laws to conserve our culture. Culture dies when language dies.

I spent my childhood in my village and used to hear this song and have seen traditional garhwali marriages, I think of myself is a very lucky, now married to a Delhi girl who is garhwali too but have no knowledge about anything and no intrest too to know, I go to village to attend marriages thinking to see the old tradition to refreshed my memories but unfortunately everything is gone, they don't follow the old tradition and spent lot of money to have a marriage like like cities which is worst that is neither city marriage nor village marriage, wastage of money. So sad 😢😢.
