      @ConsciousPallythis is just a ridiculous statement. Whether YOU like them or not, you can’t say they don’t care. If they didn’t care , Nike wouldn’t keep innovating and making big changes. They would just mKe small changes with cosmetic updates and just keep charging big dollars.

      They may be referring to Nike majorly dropping the ball on not retaining Federer a few years back. I think Nike lost some of the employees who really knew and loved tennis. Otherwise, I can't see why they wouldn't fight harder to keep Federer in Nike attire.@@errolmclaughlin1482

      I think you hit the nail right on the head. It truly feels like Nike shoe designers have been throwing a bunch of poop against the wall with hopes that some of it sticks for the last five years. The company seems to be totally lost with regard to the tennis shoe line at this point in time in my opinion.

      I’ve NEVER had an issue with Nike shoes fit or performance. Specifically the Vapor Pro or Pro 2. Guess they’re just not engineered for some people’s feet or preferences. But to suggest that the shoes are crap is a bit over the top.

    I understand why Nike release new models cause a lot of people want "upgrades" and get interested in new stuff, new tech, new look, etc. But I don't understand why they can't keep producing some of the more popular models at the same time. If both Alcaraz and Rune, two of the hottest players this year, both prefer the old Vapor Pro, why not just keep producing that one too...

  • @aaronarauj
    @aaronarauj Год назад +57

    Very glad you addressed this. However, I would argue that many players who compromised for the Vapor Pro would go back to the Vapor X or 9.5. Both Alcaraz and Rune were seen practicing with the Vapor Pro 2 early in the year and then went back to the Vapor Pro. This combined with the feedback from everyone else seems to confirm some sort of regression on Nike’s end. They’re also all uglier shoes, which is just salt in the wound.

      @@lanersm56yes! Because the 9.5 style & similar ones before it were great, & then they tried to make the shoe lighter & honestly cheaper to make & the shoes were crap. Everyone I know preferred the older style, I couldn’t wear the new ones. Couldn’t tighten the shoe enough & couldn’t tighten the shoe at the toes/upper foot, felt like my feet were going to fly out & simultaneously it was too tight around my mid-foot. They should never have discontinued the 9.5 model. Vapor pro was dreadful.

    I bought a limited release wide version of the vapor pro at the end of last year. That version is an incredible shoe, especially for a speed shoe. In addition, it's a bit more durable than a typical speed shoe, however it's not a gel resolution type shoe, and tons of people forget that. The forefoot midsole area is surprisingly padded well too. The fact that they came out with a wide version was a surprise to me, because Nike rarely does that.

    Vapor Pro is great as a lightweight, minimal tennis shoe - ideal for a pro who's moving at top speed, aggressively, and doesn't want to be slowed down. But for any rec player who wants comfort, it's a tough sell. For every person who loved the OG Vapor Pro, someone hated them for lack of cushioning. I think the Vapor Pro 2 tried to find a balance but overall, I feel it took away from the OG's strengths while not really fixing the weaknesses.

    Nike, just make a revamped Vapor X.
    Keep the adaptive lacing system but the lace holes like the Vapor 11. For a hassle free and fast best fit.
    Don’t slant the midsole inwards. Just neutral. To fit most people.
    And add a Zoom unit in the forefoot.

    I still use the vapor x and have stocked up (i now have 10 pairs) i gave the vapor pros 2 chances and both failed miserably! Far less support and the foam just felt alot tougher and i found my feet getting sore. Durability was also average at best! Ill admitt im obsessed with the look of the vapor 10s. I recently ordered the re released vapor 9.5 and love the look too. They feel slightly heavier, but they are just as comfy and i think provide a bit more support.
    I am tempted to give the vapor 11s a try as i dont mind the look, but like the rest of the comments i feel nike was better making smaller adjustments to the shoe. I hope they keep the 9.5s out for a long time. I laso like to match my gear where i can and i own alot of Nike's outfits so i like to keep the shoes in the same brand.

    I think this touches upon a bigger issue with regards to Nikes entire shoe line the last 5 to 7 years. They seem to be changing models randomly at in hopes of finding a winning combination that sticks with the tennis playing public without regard for what the players want and need or value in terms of their shoe performance. The Vapor line is just one example. What about the Cage line - even Nadal can't wear the new Vapor Cage. Look at what they did with the Zoom Zeros and the GP Turbo - what shoes with cult following known for cushioning and they replaced it with the Zoom NXT, which was the total opposite in terms of performance and cushioning. Nike Tennis Division seems like an afterthought at the company at this point.

I'm an aggressive foot worker and I don't see that changing. I'm willing to pay more for something more "durable" however I cannot find any shoes except lower end New Balance ($120 range) court shoes. I'm really at a loss. My options are so minimal that I feel like the universe is telling me I'm not even supposed to be playing tennis with my sasquatch feet! 😭 What do I do?!

    vapor pro 1 helped me get a jones fracture. i hate the uneven base of the shoe. i still wish the vapor 9/9.5 were still available. vapor pro 2 is just so bulky. i didn't like the cage 4 either.

    Back in the late 80’s. Nike came out with the air trainer. Wore that shoe for years. Didn’t last long, but just a great shoe. Nike has the shoe out now. I would love to wear it. But I know that the shoe isn’t the same and will probably be garbage. Nike just doesn’t have a good build quality anymore

    This is true that the newer versions are getting worse day by day. Even in other products also. Conclusion : new version means worse than previous one.😅

    Be curious to hear thoughts on shelf life if stocking up on a favorite shoe. I’ve heard from people who probably have no actually knowledge of the chemistry involved that because glue and foam will naturally degrade over time athletic shoes can’t be stored too long. I picked up quite a few of my favorite tennis racket about 10 years ago when it was being discontinued and just string when ready to use. Not sure I’d want boxes of shoes sitting on a shelf for that long.

    • @FootDoctorZach
      @FootDoctorZach  Год назад +1

      If you wear them periodically they last longer but usually it’s a few years of sitting before the glue and foam start going on a standard Eva shoe- plastic foams alittle longer

    I always wondered this too, plus Frances Tiafoe using the Turbo’s which I can’t find anywhere… so I’m wondering if he just has exclusive access to those shoes, or if Nike just doesn’t make them for the public. During the French Open 2023, a lot of pros got their hands on the Vapor 9.5s but they weren’t released for the public except one pair and that was that white with light blue scribble design. But players like Dimitrov and Shapovalov got the yellowish orangish color, or the all white 9.5s

    • @FootDoctorZach
      @FootDoctorZach  Год назад +1

      Yeah they get PE models - the GP turbo is available in women's but you can just size up, its the same shoe- nike has 9.5's on their site now actually, i have a link to it in the description

      @@FootDoctorZach ohhhh okay, I never check the actual Nike website… I’m so used to going to tennis warehouse, tennis express, and tennis point. That would be awesome if you could send the link!
      Also irrelevant, but those power step soles, I took the surgery but got recommend 3 different ones, and I’ve seen your video on them, is there any way you’d recommend for me? Medium to high arch with heel and arch pain, I’d use for tennis?

    I dont think nike can go worse as far as vapor pro 3. They already made a above average bulky shoe that is suppose to be light weight and flexible. We should get something better in 7 months when the new ones come out but we will see. all I liked from eh vapor pro 2 was forefoot zoom air. If I had to change one thing on the vapor pro 2 that would have made shoe feel so much lighter, it would be one piece outside. I would have made it 2 pieces with shank in middle like vapor 9.5, to decrease surface area and weight.

    This is what i hate about sport brands. Why do they need to keep releasing new shoes when the current ones work well? Most of the time they end up making a shoe which is worse than the previous shoe.

    The pros don't play in old shoes, they play in new/old models new shoes.
    We amateur play in new/old models old shoes. 😂
    I bring spare rackets, polos to a game, but I never bring spare shoes.
    To the pros durability is no concerns and they cannot accept break in period.
    So it all comes down to whether a new model is better for an amateur and a pro (may be at least the top 100 pros), and their priorities are never aligned.
