In my opinion it's the people who already own moderately modified cars that utilize the accessports for flash tuning that are screwed the most. We either leave our cars exactly the same and hope there's never a need for a retune, or it's basically a brand new tune from scratch.
Yup! I built my car 15 years ago and am still on v1 access port. I JUST purchased the v3 after years of saving up for it and the tune to find out the EPA hates me and my dream car apparently. I’m SOL and probably won’t ever be able to rationalize spending $1500+ on a standalone + close to another $1000 for tuning a stand alone. This is my summer pleasure car that gets maybe 2000 miles a year put on it NOT a race car. When it was built, I removed the emissions stuff because my state didn’t require it. NOW Californians have moved here and my state adopted their INSANE CARB rules because REASONS(none of which they can show me data on, so mainly feelings of saving the planet while chinas pollution blows in with the wind🤦♂️)

I would recommend a Standalone ecu over Cobb. I was using a Link G4X standalone ecu on my 07 STI with a BTI screen to monitor data. I also have the same setup on my evo 9. This gives the tuner a lot more features to miss with and dial in.
From my personal experience, I had so many issues with my WRX when it was tuned on open source. But I spent the money got a link g4x ecu and haven’t looked back the extra safety features and the tune ability of a standalone is worth the price tag IMO.
As someone who specializes in open source tuning for the past 10 years I have only had good results. Never been limited with what I could do. Flex fuel is more of a hassle on open source than Cobb, that’s about it.
I thought about the link G4X, but what about the OBD2 port and emissions testing? I'm guessing the OBD2 port will not work and i'm not passing emissions test.
In accessport software there is an option to automatically update or ask to update in the settings. I recently sent a log to my tuner and was apprehensive but it didn't force update, just make sure before you plug in.
The EPA is killing the performance aftermarket industry and no one is doing anything about it. Theres gotta be 1000s of small businesses that are going to be negatively effected by the ban on ecu tuning. Not to mention the folks who make a living doing something they're passionate about.
The crazy thing is, people are freaking the hell out about it right now but not fully reading/understanding the t & c's. I don't know how things will turn out in the next few months for tuning but as long as there is money to be made, there will be a solution. For now, I've seen local fb groups selling off their parts for fairly cheap so even with the unknowns, getting a fairly new ap with intake used for about 650 is pretty damn good of a deal.
I dont even own a subaru but these news make me uneasy since I was planning on using ecutek on my turbo build and they certainly sound like they're beating around the bush and know that most likely the same will happen to them. Good to know I guess and might as well start planning for a haltech now
Business and liability being what they are, EcuTek being owned by the same company as Cobb, bet your paycheck EcuTek is going to take the same position as Cobb or EcuTek will no longer be owned by the same parent company.
Yup, you can use the OTS maps from Cobb, download an E-tune to the accessport to use or get a protune. Cobb is simply not allowing tuners to tune-out emission parts that have been deleted from your car such as cats, TGVs, secondary-air pumps, etc.
I don’t think you can flash over a Cobb map. So if you intend to go os you will have to uninstall ap and flash os. You can log via laptop and I think the tactrix 2.0 you can set up to log to sd card. If you get a Bluetooth/WiFi obd2 dongle can live monitor with something like torque if it has parameters.
I plugged in my AP to my 06 Sti yesterday and for some reason it wouldn’t turn on checked all fuses and they where okay and I also got a CEL so now I can’t read the code. I am running TGV deletes I’m so confused but the car is running just fine
Seriously most of you guys have newer wrx and stis so I don't see why you're worried. Don't do a bunch unnecessary deletes on your car for that small HP gains. You can still do full bolt ons with access port tune and get great numbers HP numbers. You can't let social media influencers determine your HP goals.
@@murphygaven1 That's true but I think subaru had after market parts in mind when producing the newer STIs and Rex's. Maybe I'm wrong but I think post GD body impreza are more suitable for bolt mods without throwing check engine lights on. My swap Ej205 GC coupe is another story :-( The accessport has spoiled us all.
An ex pro tuner from cobb that just left their company a month ago recommends Link. its more reliable and easier to tune with that Haltech.
Thanks for info!
I run link, it's top notch
Yes link is made in nz, is hugely popular, bulletproof reliable and well proven in both street and motorsport

Do you pass emissions or smog though?

doing god's work here man
😂
We need to go open source it works so nice for Honda

Good work Alex....
Ecutek will follow Cobb! Motec sees more money coming there way!
Besides motec, does any other company make a stand alone for 2015+ wrx’s?
You would tune it exactly how you tune evo 8/9s not hard to get a tune just no off the shelf stuff.
Business and liability being what they are, EcuTek being owned by the same company as Cobb, bet your paycheck EcuTek is going to take the same position as Cobb or EcuTek will no longer be owned by the same parent company.
can you still use the accessport to monitor your engine and just get a tune from somewhere else?

Cobb is the mother company Ecutech will be following suit!
If an Iphone/game console can be hacked an Access port can be hacked, nothing to worry about.
Tell that to anyone who bought a used AccessPort that wasn't unmarried.
@@usefulidiot21 😂😂😂
I think it’s good to be state by state, like marijuana laws.
Haltech for an 06 wrx is 2500 link plug and play is 1700
Thanks for info!
i believe link also has a base map.
Oh and I'm on open source the guys who programmed the access port for cobb built open-source so its not a bad way to go just alot of do it yourself
I've read that the plan is to dump the ROM data and do a checksum. If there is a single 0 or 1 that doesn't match you're sunk.
Care to elaborate? ROM data? Checksum?
Uprev as well?
Never again will I run Ecutek but to each their own.
Same. My 21 wrx ecu is currently at Cobb getting recovered for the third time because ecutek keeps bricking. Going on more than three months now...

Did you update Accessport?
@@_AlexanderVargas no I didn’t
Just plugged it in the next day and it wouldn’t turn on and I got the CEL
How can I get ecutek number. I google it and not posting a number to call
Is this only in Cali
link plug and play is the cheapest option for a GD
Motec all the way for any 15+wrx

You can definitely still do that but you will have a check engine light with basically any bolt on with a tune since most tunes raise boost

If you go stand alone then use emtron its the best for price and allows you to do way more
Thanks!

Yo
Is this just a California thing ????
It's pronounced E-C-U Tech
The representative said ECUTEK so that’s how I said it
