I’m the father of 3 children ( ages 9, 3 & 2) I will be 40 in December and have wasted 27 years of my life on drugs and alcohol. I’ve been a member of the Orthodox Church since 2015 but wandered away many times, dabbling into the occult and coming dangerously close to joining the Freemasons 😮 Thankfully God slapped me awake just in time. I ask for prayers brothers and sisters. Prayers for me to become the man, husband and father God intended me to be. Better late than never I suppose!
I'm in a similar boat. Praying for you brother.
@@fredo3161 I appreciate that. Thanks, brother. May God help you as well ☦️
Put your problems in the God hands with faith and don't worry (LITERALLY DON'T WORRY) he will do what you can't, and you do what you can, just don't fall in despair, that is for woman 😅
I'm in the far worse situation than you, I have 44 and one child age one, but I will continue making them as long as I can 😄
Life is good, just keep fighting and you'll be fine!
I understand you brother. I've been in the same boat, and still fall sometimes. But like the Lord our God Jesus himself said: "That kind of spirit comes out only if you use prayer and fasting". We need to pray *without ceasing* and to *fast* according to the church calendar. It is the only thing that is going to lay a good foundation. Also, to read the New Testament and/or lives of saints. Talk with your priest on how to start and follow it strictly with "fear and trembling", because you know the void you are starring into(how at least I view myself). Don't do less or more than what you priest says. My prayers are with you.
@@Juznik1389 much appreciated, brother ✊🏻 My priest has encouraged me to follow the fasts of the Church and I will listen. It’s interesting that you said “ that kind of spirit comes out only with prayer and fasting” because I know this to be true but never humbled myself to actually put it into practice. I will now! Thanks for your prayers and may God bless you ☦️
Fr Trenham is the man!!!
True, that.
Jesus is The Man who is God.
No humility
Father Josiah is right, this life is not easy, but it's even harder when you're broken, but still we persevere.
The truth is that only God has meaning. Without Him life is meaningless. And we are talking here about Jesus Christ, Who is the true God and Man.
22:17 ‘Seeking satisfaction is the guarantee to be unsatisfied’
To much wisdom here to learn.
Thank you father🙏💕
Your time stamp links to after the relevant portion my friend 😅
Who says that Mik is satisfied with his life? The life spent in alcohol, drugs, promiscuity is not a good life.
The purpose of Christian life for men and women the same is to take up one’s own cross and follow Christ to Golgotha. ‘Things falling into place’ is a cheery way to talk about crucifixion. I think it’s an inadequate phrase. It’s hard to relax in the hand of God, a never-ending struggle.
Great conversation. Father Josiah is amazing

Thankyou Father. This interview is edifying and insightful.

Protestant here, love the message and appreciate any insight from my brothers across the branches/denominations. This was edifying as a single man and love the input from Fr. Trenham, I'm delighted to hear that he has heard about akira the don the artist, definitely recommend to add to your music playlists. God bless 🙏🫡
His music is littered with new ageism.
I enjoyed this interview very much 🙏
The suffering I experience now is me taking in all the wrongness in the world. I feel the pain from how far humanity has seperated themselves from God and also waking up to my own wrongdoings. I know that suffering is the seed of salvation, it will ultimately set you free. It will not be easy especially when you are surrounded by ignorance and a world trying to normalize this!
May God bless you and your family. ☦️
New viewer here, learning about Orthodoxy now, coming from a loosely pagan background. Slàinte mhath mo charaidean!
I'm a conservative Catholic and I really enjoy Fr Josiah's perspective on things. There is so much of the Orthodox faith that is completely aligned with Catholocism that almost everything said is applicable (even so much theology). With the mutual excommunications being lifted, it would be wonderful to see a unification. I wonder if there is much difficulty with the current culture seeping into Orthodoxy, like in Catholocism. It feels challeging to stay the course in scripture when so many are apostasising these days. God bless.

I am Christian . But I admire the comradery of the muslums. They help each other guide each other . Speak thoughtful language to each other. Their seems to be a level of support among each other that Christians don't have. And I just don't understand why we as Christians don't have that support. Also we have so many sects how can we unify ? To be the children of God he wants us to be ?

Great interview. I just subscribed to "as iron sharpens iron" podcast. Looks great

So insightful my man, thanks for sharing!
Christ beat the Devil at his own game, within the rules he made up. The devil thought he got Him. On the Cross, nailed, hated, by His own chosen people, crucified instead of Barabas. An act of suffering and barbarism inflicted upon His Holy Person, but the devil never knew or understood what hit him just as he thought he got the chance to do what he never believed he will. Alas, Jesus asks for everyone's forgiveness, then pours Life into hell and uplifts everyone there, emptying it. Cleansing Creation and tying the devil by his own tail.
God could have done that in any way, with just the beginning of the first syllable of a word. But He chose to do it in the manner in which nobody could complain about anything, not even the devil. This is our God. GLORY TO HIM, NOW, IN PERPETUITY AND IN THE AGES OF AGES, AMEN!
Excellent interview!
Great talk, have you read Nihilism by Seraphim Rose? Great book.
Our purpose…in a nutshell…to discard all the ideas we use to support our ego in who we are, our plans, our “calling”, and to be still, know God, and serve Him unto the salvation of our souls. Only by letting go of all we believe defines us in a “good” way and repenting all the ways in which through sin we have failed our benevolent Creator, can we find the purpose God Himself has for us.
God has a purpose and plan for all.
I love listening to you ❤
We are all called to monastic life be it single or married.
In Orthodoxy, marriage and monasticism in a classical sense, as in becoming a monk or nun, are mutually exclusive.
@@ManiphestoMen You misunderstood what I mentioned. I meant monastic DISCIPLINE.
Thank you for this video! You asked for input, I would really appreciate a video with Fr. Josiah about working out as a Orthodox Christian. How think about it, and how to fit it in as a part of our spiritual discipline.

Papism is an heresy defined and anathematised in 1054 AD. Only one head of the Church, Christ. Only one infallible man, Christ, Who is God, who is the only one possible of being perfect.

Did you know TWO heads of monasteries came from his parish?? Amazing
Are you an Orthodox Christian yourself? Just asking
Yes.
What about those that weren’t lucky enough to find love but also aren’t destined for the monastic life? Why does the Orthodox Church not address those of us that are single not by choice? Real question?
Absolutely the Orthodox church addresses all people in all situations - especially difficult, even desperate situations. Certainly I needed to experience for myself that I could not lead my life myself before I turned to putting my faith in God.
Any chance you could provide the names of the people he listens to?
Not sure what you are asking about - the names of who Fr Josiah listens to? I think it is fair to say that he primarily listens to the voices of the Church Fathers and Scripture.
I have a serious question: 4 years ago I converted from Catholicism to Orthodoxy. My wife has always been catholic and never had any intention to convert to Orthodoxy. However I thought it would be best for us both if I returned to Catholicism for us. I have been attending a traditional latin catholic church and I enjoy going However just recently I've had dreams where I am back in the Orthodox church. I feel somewhat confused that I made this decision to leave the Orthodox church. And I feel worried if I may not be able to return if possible. I have already voiced my intention to wanting to return to Orthodoxy with my wife, and I think it doesn't really matter to her because she is set in her hart to remain Roman Catholic. There is also a Byzantine church where I live and I thought about going there. I am not sure, but I am searching for where God is calling me. Any advice please would help. Thank you all.
Sounds like you are having some very good thoughts and intuitions. Pray more, search for truth, continue to be open to God's calling.
Christ calls. You could not have converted to Orthodoxy, this is impossible since the lifting of the anathemas in 1965. They are one. But for the deception of ecumenism to be successful you are told differently. However, not all Orthodox are Genuine Orthodox. Seek and ye shall find.
Is Christ’s Body ONE or many? ONE FAITh or many different teachings? We

I would pray the Akathist to the Gaurdian Angel. Your gaurdian angel is designated to help you fulfill your purpose in life, whatever that may be. God's speed!
"Your life is important"? In what sense? Not everyone is destined to perform great deeds. So, your life is not important. If it were, God would allow you to do something outstanding. Only very few people are destined to perform such deeds. The rest of people are below average. It has always been so.
I think that depends on how you look at what defines important. Are you only important if thousands and millions of eyes are up on you? Is a man or woman important if they are able to provide and give their family a good life, but only have the eyes of their family on them? Maybe it is better to have a few eyes on you filled with true love, than millions that will love you until they disagree with you. Then those eyes are filled with hatred. We see it every day now on the Internet.
@@windchimesilo9623 I`m talking about unwritten laws of life; I`m talking about undeniable facts. Great people have always been in the minority. Only very few are destined to perform great deeds. If you`re capable of performing great deeds, you`re important.

Maniphesto - Conversations on Masculinity
😉
The problem is that I have never seen a person in my life who sought the kingdom of God first and everything was given to that person. I don`t find these words credible because they don`t materialize in real life.
What do you mean, they don't materialise in real life? What are you expecting to happen to whom? Are you at all familiar with the Orthodox Church?
@@ManiphestoMen I mean that if a person becomes a follower of Christ, his material well-being won`t necessarily increase as a result, in fact, it may very well decrease. Yes, I`m more than familiar with the Orthodox Church.
When God says in Matthew 6:33 - "But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you", it must be manifested and materialized in real life; which is not the case. What is the essence of this statement? Follow my teaching and I`ll give you everything you need. Have you seen anyone who was given everything after he had submitted his will to God? Personally, I have not.
There`s another verse in the Bible: "Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart." Again, I`ve never seen a person who delighted in the Lord and the desires of his heart were fulfilled. That`s why I say, these are empty words, yet, they sound convincing.
@@ManiphestoMen Why did you delete my comment? You don`t like to hear the truth, right?
@@eagleeye182huh? Which comment? Your comment is right here dude. I do delete comments from trolls, so more strange accusations with no basis in reality and this one will get deleted.
The problem with your first comment it is basically saying "I have no personal experience of this thing, therefore it cannot exist." But it is not clear to me that you understand what is meant in the text by the Kingdom of God, nor what is meant by "all these things" will be given to you - NOT "everything" like you say. It sounds like you are expecting some kind of magical sky daddy who give you unlimited presents if you go looking for him.
@@ManiphestoMen I replied with a long comment but it suddenly disappeared. That leads me to think that you don`t want to hear the truth.
There`re two verses in the Bible (Matthew 6:33 and Psalm 37:4), both of which assure people that provided a person becomes a true believer, everything will be given to him, which in turn isn`t true because I`ve not seen even a single person whose dreams materialized or material well-being increased just because he believed in God. That`s why I say that these are empty words, however, it has to be mentioned that they sound convincing.
According to the Bible, God`s all powerful so basically, He can do everything. And when such an all-powerful being tells you that if you do something, He`ll give everything, I think you must take His words seriously. Or maybe you think that God is a fictional character?
God can`t clearly give me the desires of my heart even if I become a monk because God can`t rewind time and undo things that have already been done.
“Married or monastic” 😑
Life is precious and you are important etc. 5 seconds later. YOU ARE MUSH AND YOU HAVE NO SIGNIFICANCE AT ALL.

"girly" as a negative? Wow.
There are probably some very confused male communities where "girly" is a positive, but yes, amongst Orthodox men, being girly is not a quality we appreciate.
In the context of being a man or boy…yes. Because boys are not girls and men are not women.
The effeminate do not inherit the kingdom.
00.28 ‘it’s so girly’. Disappointing and offensive that Father used the word ‘girly’ as a synonym for ‘pathetic’ or (in his words) ‘mush’.
Please read your bible. He means effeminate. Maybe ask yourself why you're offended so easily.
“Life is ******* hard.” Shocked? Substitute an f, is it any more shocking? Any profanity, slur, or faddish language does little to help the hearer believe the things coming out of a man’s mouth if his yea is not yea and his popularity appears to be on the line.
“This quest for ease is so girlie”. Stop with the gender slurs eh! Do you truly think this is a “girlie” trait? Ask your wife. Women KNOW it’s not a life of ease…try giving birth, and living up to the image of the virtuous woman from the Psalms. Read the lives of some women Saints.
He means effeminate. As in "be ye not effeminate." I am also a woman. This is not offensive.
