Correction: This kind of cartoon animation is always an epic 😎 masterpiece, and it was clearly obvious that the writers in shows like these were extremely talented 👏 👌 😀 👍 😄 😆.

I actually liked Shazzan! Giving what credit we can, Chuck and Nancy do NOT call Shazzan with every threat (like Commissioner Gordon on 60s Batman), and they DO try to solve the threat of the week themselves before being forced to call the genie. Of course, when they DO call Shazzan, the episode IS over - there's no ignoring that - but it never seemed to me that the writers were just marking time until that moment. They DID try to give us an actual story, and then they have fun with the genie's presence. But every story must end the same way, so we basically have a benevolent Mxyzptlk, and you know how Mxyzptlk stories always end.
So, if there is a secret weapon why the show remains entertaining, it has to be Shazzan himself. His character is very odd. He takes pleasure in routing the villain of the episode, and he is actually rather imaginative in disposing of the villains ... within the limitations of Saturday morning kidvid of the era. No killing, no maiming - but no one said anything about turning them into multi-colored dust. And always laughing as he does so. I never realized that the voice of Shazzan was Barney Phillips, best known to my kid brain as the three-eyed Venusian on that episode of the Twilight Zone.
And it's still Alex Toth, so Nancy is very cute, and the monsters are always interesting. Did I mention that I thought Nancy was cute?
I never got the VOD release of the series, though, so it's great seeing this. Thanks for posting!

I have a theory that the commonality of boy and girl twins in 60's cartoons came from the creators listening to the Chandu the Magician radio show in the 30's and 40's that featured Chandu's nephew and niece, Bob and Betty.

How was this very genie not very well brought up in pop culture references 🤔 🙄 😕, how? Please tell me.

I do recall that one episode where Shazann was actually locked out of an area by a barrier until they figured out he could only enter it by going in backward, showing at least that the genie wasn't completely omnipotent.
