My grandfather exchanged a bicycle for this camera about 50 years ago. Now I own it and I'm learning analog photography with it. Still works pretty well if not for some light leaking
The ae1 just bores me tbh hahaha. I always hate on the generic standard that everyone recommends for anything 🤣🤣 this rangefinder style is a bit different experience from an slr like ae1, very unique option! Lookout for minolta x-700 video coming 🫣
Great video and production, I just don’t see how this is the 1961 X100V. No light meter readout, fixed lens, awkward control layout (compared to other film cameras, don’t know about the X100V), etc. I think there are better options, albeit for slightly higher prices, but still much, much less than the X100 cameras. But don’t stop the videos, they look good.
It's the 61 x100v in the sense that it's a travel sized, fixed 35mm rangefinder from fuji... just from the past. It's obviously not identical but it's the closest thing for it's time.
I've owned two similar models (35ml). The shutters in these things are absolute trash. I got a few rolls through mine (which was just overhauled) before it died on me. It's a shame, because the lens is one of my all time favs, but the shutters, (I have both citizen and Seiko built ones) are just extremely unreliable and very difficult to fix. This model may have a copal shutter in it, but clearly your luck isn't any better than mine. Hope you can get yours fixed. Mine are just paper weights
I've ordered one more, and if I can't get it to work then so be it, I'll move on to a different rangefinder. Just thought this video opened up an interesting conversation and it's definitely interesting to see what the "X100V" would've been back then
@@TOMMYBMP if you can't get this camera to work, the Kodak iiic or IIIC (note big C and little c are slightly different cameras) is one of the best kept secrets in film photography. Made in germany to compete with Leica and they've got wonderful Schneider or rodenstock lenses depending where they were sold originally. I think with inflation, they're pretty close to the price of the x100 series in the late 50's. Paul barden in Corvallis Oregon still services them and can make the cameras function like new. They've got great syncro compur shutters that are fairly reliable. If you're not tied to auto exposure or the Fuji brand, they're a great alternative. Yashica made some similar gems too. You can pick up an electro 35 for next to nothing and those things are great. Hope you've got more luck than me. Those Fuji's have very charming lenses on them
@@DrCowinabox the yashicas seem like a nice alternative, I'll look more into the kodaks as well! I'll keep everyone updated on my rangefinder journey haha for now I've got another auto m on the way 😬
please dont take this as an insult, but instead as constructive criticism. repeatedly saying you do not know what the world is/how to pronounce it/etc within the first 2 minutes of your video does not build trust with your audience. it makes you sound like you dont know what you're talking about. most people dont want information from someone who doesn't sound like they know what they are talking about. before you sit down to make the video, look up the words. find clips of someone else saying them. fully understand how to say the word and what it means before sitting down to record yourself talking about this thing, because otherwise you will look severely underprepared in a a medium (YoutTube videos) where you have all the editing time in the world to make sure what you're saying is correct.
You are absolutely right Daniel! Lucky for me I got the word right haha but I totally should've checked it it was just one word. Think I was in a bit of a rush filming this one tbh, was a busy day! Thanks for the advice brother 🙏

In fact, you influencer, I just picked one up from ebay because of you. Prior to this, I was thinking about the Canon AE-1. So you swayed me.

@ChrisBrogan shouldn't be too bad, I'm a bit of a cheapskate 🤣 I like to find affordable things that are a bit different
This was really interesting. I liked what you put together here. "The hands of frustration" was great.
