The spook factor on these enemies is excellent. So, doubt anyone will see this but will leave it for any future viewers anyway. Contextually, many of Simon's reactions and stilted dialogue in this game are not just the product of the developer learning the character and rookie voice acting. Markiplier puts on a persona, Vinny is raw. If Mark wasn't enjoying it, he wouldn't tell the audience, because his audience wants Mark to be invested and spooked, and he knows that.
Because the game has really shit artificial difficulty and jumpscares. The enemies take too much damage to kill and a lot of the time you have to kill them because they block your path. The best part of this game is that you can just edit the weapon/enemy stats to make it more playable.
It's beautiful for the GoldSrc engine and it's a really impressive feat, but I dunno... the level design is kinda bad. All the backtracking, the various bits where you can't really avoid damage unless you've memorized the map, on top of frustrating mechanics like being unable to keep a rifle because you have a tiny little key in your pocket, or having to backtrack multiple times because you can't hold more than one fuse in your pocket, or throwing away all of your gun's remaining bullets every time you reload despite the scarcity of ammo, just draw the game out unnecessarily and make it feel like a clumsy experience which pulls me right out of the deep atmosphere the team did so much to create. The worst problem with this game is how poor the tutorial is. If it managed to explain the controls better, people would have such a far better experience with this. For example: Putting weapons in the *Quickslots* for easy access without having to open the inventory all the times or *Double-tapping* an arrow-key to skip/dodge in a direction. The latter is utterly vital to fighting the enemies without them chipping down your health into nothing. Hit the enemy, double-tap "S", dodge backward to avoid getting hit. Repeat.

I always loved the idea of the common hammer enemies. A hammer is so much more effective at getting a scare from me than a knife. Like, I'd rather be stabbed than be clubbed by a hammer in a dark sewer. And the enemy's designs too, the way they shake and shamble as if they are constantly getting chills down their spine, and their clenched teeth and bug-eyes really express, like, intense pain. I appreciate when horror games use a teenage character, but not just in the "run from the monster, don't get caught scenario," more so in the "fight for survival" type of horror. Simon's a mama's boy, but he's forced to stumble around subway tunnels wincing in pain, barely able to stand. The dual-wielding of the phone and knife reminds me of when you think you hear something at night in your house and you have to investigate before you get back to sleep. That happened to me a few times when I was little and I always remember being in a cold sweat the whole time.
In retrospect, I feel like Vinny wasn't in a good place the October he streamed this. Considering his typical soft spot for creative half-life mods, he was pretty brutal on its flaws. And I mean, he did finish it, so he probably liked it to an extent but, it is a very visceral story and maybe a little too real for hatlloween. I'm honestly just trying to figure out on this rewatch why he was so critical of it, compared to other mods he's streamed..
Yeah when I rewatched this playthrough last year I had forgotten how negatively vinny acted towards the game. I think he may have been going through a bad time or just really didn't want to play it but did it for the fans. The way his stream intro was so quiet and blunt: "You wanna do this? Okay. Welcome to Cry of Fear" It just seemed like a telling sign lol
I'm a little sad that this mod, covered so very many times, is what got recommended instead of a lovely little unknown gem like Paranoia. (Well, to be fair I recommended that to him before but he wasn't interested in looking into it at the time)
also I'm pretty sure the sequel was made by a totally different team with permission from the Paranoia lead dev. BuZZer was generally super supportive in the russian hl modding community
I'm really glad Vinny is playing this game. I found the campaign to be a pretty neat experience, though some of the jumpscares are really cheap, I think the atmosphere makes the game scarier than the actual monsters. Sadly the ending was garbage, but hey. Pretty neat game, IMO.
I feel like one of the few people who thoroughly actually likes this game, especially because of how impressive the visuals are on such an old engine. Getting transparent water in Gold Source is not an accomplishment to scoff at. I love the sound design - the soundtrack is superb. And the enemy designs are quite great. My only real issue with it was the voice acting.
I remember this game from years ago... its soundtrack got me through some pretty hard times. It's the only game I know that explicitly takes place where I live, Stockholm, though so that's kinda cool!
Audio cuts out when to much alt tabbing is done. To fix it, restart the game, if the issue persists restart your pc aswell. If it keeps happening ask on the cry of fear discord.
Vinny wouldn't have so much trouble if he would take it slow for a minute, pay attention to the text and environment, and think a little. But then again, that wouldn't be the Binyot we know and love. Maybe I shouldn't be watching his videos, actually... Him getting lost so easily triggers my OCD somethin' fierce. Oh well. Self-induced torture suits me. Plus he make the funny noise.
I'm kind of afraid to watch someone play this game and end up hating it because of a few dumb game design moments. Sure, they did some bad choices, but I hate how people let a few bad things overshadow the many good things about the game.
There's more than "a few" moments like that, sadly. To the point where the whole end-game is "bullshit: the game". It's a pity because there are some good sections on the first stages and some of the later ones too, but the whole thing is so chock-full of really stupid decisions, unnecessary jumpscares, extreme resource scarcity... Thank god the copy-pasted plot can be easily skipped at least.
some parts of the game's pacing halt to a really loud screech with annoying doorways to puzzles. He was still saying the whole thing is impressive, but some sections of the game is just, dumb.

3:22:44 oh wow, i never thought i would have something made by me being referenced by you, im the guy that made the 3D eat pant btw, thanks
The first half of this game is pretty interesting, i cant wait to see how vinny tackles this. -
Vinny has learned to use his key
better key control.
Yo was that a Protonjon meme
This ones also from Bart E A T P A N T
Vinny predicting the ending is about addiction is funny because... Afraid of Monsters
i love this game
inb4 worst ending.

NICE NAME
Jesus H christ your username is spot on.
another comment complimenting name
As derpy as this was, it was an enjoyable experience.
Every time I rewatch this the "hospital on Guerrero Street" reference to The Room makes me giggle like a moron.
I'm a little sad that this mod, covered so very many times, is what got recommended instead of a lovely little unknown gem like Paranoia. (Well, to be fair I recommended that to him before but he wasn't interested in looking into it at the time)
Paranoia was alright. It needed more content, though. And better bumpmapping.
It's another Half-life mod, though they also later released it as a standalone on a modified engine. It also got a sequel.
The sequel isn't that good though, unfortunately
Cry of Fear was based on the Paranoia version of the engine, IIRC. Used all of its graphical updates
also I'm pretty sure the sequel was made by a totally different team with permission from the Paranoia lead dev. BuZZer was generally super supportive in the russian hl modding community
FINALLY!
I'm really glad Vinny is playing this game. I found the campaign to be a pretty neat experience, though some of the jumpscares are really cheap, I think the atmosphere makes the game scarier than the actual monsters. Sadly the ending was garbage, but hey. Pretty neat game, IMO.
Flyingboots1 I can see that
I feel like one of the few people who thoroughly actually likes this game, especially because of how impressive the visuals are on such an old engine. Getting transparent water in Gold Source is not an accomplishment to scoff at. I love the sound design - the soundtrack is superb. And the enemy designs are quite great.
My only real issue with it was the voice acting.
@@duroorud527 Uh oh stinky
I remember this game from years ago... its soundtrack got me through some pretty hard times. It's the only game I know that explicitly takes place where I live, Stockholm, though so that's kinda cool!
Although it does depict the city as a giant maze of tunnels, concrete and sadness. Which isn't entirely inaccurate.
I don’t know how one of the most disturbing and wacky video game soundtracks of all time got you through hard times but cool
I think the main reason why Vinny likes half-life hd version better than the normal one is because the Glock was changed to an m9
Despite “kinda it’s all in your head” scenario, this game has a great story 😊
in loving memory of Dividi Faivdola
It was all a dream, he used to read word up magazine
I got a question how did you make the game run with sounds? The steam version has no gun audio and songs
Audio cuts out when to much alt tabbing is done. To fix it, restart the game, if the issue persists restart your pc aswell. If it keeps happening ask on the cry of fear discord.
That's not Freddy Kruger, that's his lesser known twin, Teddy.
You need to Co-op this with Criken2 I swear you won't regret it Vin!
zach7 *GEHT OFF TEH TRAIN!*
I believe he has, or at least did something with Criken. Unless I am remembering wrong.
Dizzy He has done some stuff, like when vinny tested the I.C.U prototype.
Criken's hyper demeanor and presentation wouldn't really go hand in hand with Vinny
Vinny was one of the bean boys in Criken's children of the bean video
Balloonchair Zombie is best villain.
Man, RE7 looks great
』『 THIS IS RE8 LEAKED GAMEPLAY
Wait.....This isn't Goosebumps?
Christian Martinez no that's the dlc for re7.5
Vinny wouldn't have so much trouble if he would take it slow for a minute, pay attention to the text and environment, and think a little. But then again, that wouldn't be the Binyot we know and love.
Maybe I shouldn't be watching his videos, actually...
Him getting lost so easily triggers my OCD somethin' fierce.
Oh well. Self-induced torture suits me.
Plus he make the funny noise.
Damn. Beat the game in 5 minutes, that must be a new record! Great video, Vinyot.
Cry of Sauce
Me: wakes up while this is playing
The video: 🎶 "time to get addicted, to morphine" 🎶
3:00:50 The Carcass used to actually legitimately scare me... until I saw Vin play obviously
Nobody told me that life was gonna be this way, 1:23:48

Locked doors and hallways: the game
Could never finish this game. I remember it teaching me what true claustrophobia feels like
3:00:45 for chair flesh
James Marchant!??
Book Simon
This game is ass, sorry.
Is it just me or is that the menu sound effect from Undertale I keep hearing?
I feel like I regonize that spesific bleep effect.
Been fucking WAITING FOR THIS.
