  • I am loving my new Bass Double Strung lap harp made by Marini Made Harps. I also got the brand new Forte levers for it. www.marinimadeharps.com/doubl...
    Since it is a very new design by the Marini's I wanted to make a detailed video so others could see exactly what it was like. I wanted to explain why I wanted a double strung harp in general, and why I chose this harp over others, even over the Marini's regular double strung harp.
    Since I ended up making the video so long (so much to say 😃) I added time stamps to make it easier if you are looking for some specific information.
    0:29 Dimensions of box
    1:05 Cutting into box
    2:26 Opening the information pouch
    5:48 Unwrapping the base of the adjustable display stand
    7:00 Unwrapping the lap bar
    7:50 Unwrapping the adjustable display stand leg
    8:50 Assembling the adjustable display stand
    9:40 Unwrapping the harp
    11:28 Holding up the harp
    12:00 About the Forte levers
    12:52 Putting the harp on the stand (note - is MUCH easier if lay harp on a couch 😊)
    15:22 About the harp in general
    16:08 Why get a double strung harp
    17:08 Why the Bass strings
    19:04 The harp’s lightness & portability
    19:30 More about the Forte levers
    21:06 More about the adjustable display stand
    21:30 About the Marini’s 30 day trial period
    21:56 About the lap bar (note - the curved rubber side on you legs is correct when sitting; that way it does not slip! The padded side would be to rest against your chest if you wanted to stand while playing the harp; the bar would go in a higher hole on the harp for this.)
    23:31 About the range
    24:57 My sound sample
    25:45 Care with the adjustable display stand
    27:26 More about the Forte levers; ease, sound
    29:00 More about the adjustable display stand acting like a floor harp; ability to put in gig bag
    29:36 Loving the harp!
    Got some extra questions, so made a short video on

    This was a great unboxing/review of your beautiful new harp. It’s great to see you so in love with it. I agree with you on wanting as many bass notes as possible. It sounds wonderful! So excited for you. (I also enjoyed your birds😊)

      Yes, the birds give me a beautiful show each day. Took us a while though to finally figure out how to keep the squirrels from stealing their food!

      We have tons of squirrels. They bury walnuts everywhere! Bird feeders would definitely become squirrel feeders. I smashed open my pumpkins from Halloween in the front yard and both the birds and squirrels enjoyed them during the cold/snowy weather. BTW - Got some good news about my Camac levers today - they are expected next week. 🎉

      @@harpnhound Ha - I just figured out who you are by 'Harp and Hammered Dulcimer' and Camac levers! A bunch of clues 🧐that I figured out. I will be looking forward to your own unboxing video in a couple of weeks - maybe even have your new harp for 🐬💦!
      We keep giving the squirrels offerings in a different location, but they keep eyeing that feeder. We beat them though 💪. The can only gaze longingly at the feeder.

    Thanks so much for this review! My Marini Double Bass in high gloss walnut (my sixth Marini harp!!) will be finished in 3 weeks. After watching your great review, I'm hopping on one foot with eagerness! Their harps are gorgeous with superb tone, and like you said, so often a marvel of design to be so lightweight with such range!!! Yours is so beautiful and I know you'll love it more and more!

      Mary, I didn't order a floor stand with mine but plan to play it with the lap bar and then somehow lean it or prop it or in a corner of my music room or even hang it on the wall. Do you think propping it in the corner would work with it's shape?

    • @MaryJ-M
      @MaryJ-M  Год назад

      @@WILLIELOVESVIVI I have been trying to think of ways to do that if you do not have either stand. I would not want to hang it unless you had something like a padded cradle under it, and padding on the wall it would be hanging from..
      You are getting the stabilizer bar, correct? I just tried it, and it works well as a supporting bar on the ground😃! I put the padded side of the bar so it goes on the floor side. I definitely would advise placing it on a carpet. If your floors are wood then get a small throw rug or even a bath carpet. I just don't like the idea of any part of the beautiful finish on the harp touching wood, and in this position the part of the soundbox near the lower end of the harmonic curve is also touching the floor. You see people all the time putting a lap harp on the floor/ground by laying on its soundboard, but with with the Marini's narrow sound board I did not think it would be possible. This is another great reason to have the stabilizer bar. If I am playing with it out and about without the stand I would not want to rest it on its side on its strings. With the bar, problem solved!
      You must be getting your harp very soon now - let me know your thoughts when you get it!

      Ah Pam, you enjoy bass notes too! I found I could not enjoy songs without them. Some people talk about bringing the bass notes in a song up an octave to play on a small harp. I instead find I am often taking the right hand of a song down an octave! Oh yes, loving the doubling!

      The Marini Bass Double is an amazing harp and I HIGHLY recommend it.
      Enjoy your new Argent Fox. Be sure to get their Argent Forte levers for it😉. Game changer for a double-strung if you need to use accidentals on the blind (right) side of the harp.

      @avemariadoula 6 месяцев назад +2

      Is that the Forte levers? I haven't gotten the harp yet - it is going to be built this year - I may checkout the Forte ones but I may mix Truitt on some of it as well. LOL.@@MaryJ-M

    • @MaryJ-M
      @MaryJ-M  6 месяцев назад +2

      @@avemariadoula The Forte and the Truitts are very similar in action. I heard from someone else recently that they might be taking Truitts that they already have and using them, so perhaps that is why you would want to mix them?
      I would say if you need to mix then it would probably make the most sense to have the Truitts on the left side and the Fortes on the 'blind' right side due to their helpful curvature. I really think I would be hesitant to mix different levers on the same side because they might have a different 'throw'' feel that could be confusing while changing for accidentals in the middle of a song.

    • @avemariadoula

    Looking forward to getting this in medium gloss padauk with full Rees levers. Is there anything particularly special about high gloss or is it just cosmetics? All I know is that it's more labor and thus, more money.

    • @MaryJ-M
      @MaryJ-M  Год назад

      Oh congratulations - Padauk is such a beautiful, exotic wood, and I bet it will be gorgeous in the gloss!! I do not know if the high gloss adds any extra musical tone, but it would definitely be more labor intense.

    Due to high soundboard and short looking strings do you have to hold your arms higher?

    • @MaryJ-M
      @MaryJ-M  10 месяцев назад +1

      No, not at all! While the soundboard comes up higher than in floor harps the strings actually continue halfway to the bottom of the soundboard (see video at 12:00 minutes in). I have never had an issue with with feeling the soundboard was in the way. I play this harp 100% of the time; I have not played my floor harp since I got this harp.
      You might want to look at Shawnmarie's videos playing this Marini double strung design (although not the bass version). She plays with her hands even slightly below the top of the soundboard. ruclips.net/video/dqeFxk1Fq0w/видео.html

      @@MaryJ-M I see what you mean regarding hand positioning. It really is a lovely harp and sound. It reminds me of single strun Luna harp.

    • @MaryJ-M
      @MaryJ-M  10 месяцев назад +2

      @@janedoe-vh4uk Yes, I have seen the Luna harp and agree, although I do not anything about it.
      I think the side-wise soundboard is genius. Makes it lighter and more portable, yet still has a full sound! Also, to me it seems to make more sense for a double strung to spread out the tension in different areas rather than have one area of the soundboard have so much tension.
