    This is what I've been waiting for a long time. So many Pastors emphasizing the 10% nowadays. Its not in the NT. Thanks Pastor John.

    Again the wisdom of John Piper is not parallel to other Pastor. The liberty of the New Testament is not yet welcomed by other churches for so many reasons and it take great wisdom and humble heart to accept the New Testament. Thank you for enlightening us, Pastor John Piper. We cannot mix law and grace if so we are cheapen the life of Jesus.

    I’m seeing a lot of stingy Christians in this comment section😂 The Bottomline is that when you bless God’s House he will bless yours. When you give cheerfully to the people doing God’s work be it training other believers in faith, evangelism or food pantries through a church, God honors this. By whining about gross vs net and 10% vs 5%, New Testament vs old testament you are obviously not cheerful givers (2 Corinthians 9:7). You should be happy to bless others Especially those who are doing kingdom work.

    I agree with John Piper. I don't earn that much. I believe going into debt to give to the Church is a sin. God wants us give within our means of doing so.

      hello5609 hi, you do not have to get into debt to give. Get out of debt first then give. Check Dave Ramsey's book (if you havent already) The Total Money Makeover. Proverbs 22:7 -Stay blessed!

      you give the first fruits of your increase. You will not go into debt by doing this....not possible. Debt is not caused by giving... Biblically God tells us to give, he also instructs us to run away from debt.

    • @lawrencejones58

      Make a budget. Depending where you are (I know this was 3 years ago); pay what you can towards tithes. As you begin to eliminate debt, then you can allocate that towards tithes. Say your goal is 10%, but for now you can only do 4%. Keep giving, keep working to pay off debt. As time goes on, that 4% will gradually increase, and you'll begin to see the fruit of your hard work. Plus with the principle of reaping and sowing, your debt pay off plan will begin to get traction and the glory of God will be realized!
      Dave Ramsey's Total Money Makeover is definitely the truth!

    I think part of the "Tithe" issue in Western society, is that WE "pewpeople" want to know and see that our little tithe is going to God's Kingdom, but instead we often see it going towards Pastors and eldors etc. with their 4 homes, new jets, BMWS, fancy clothes and jewelry etc. Through this we become more aware of where our blessing goes, i.e. missions etc.

    • @bobothn
      @bobothn Год назад +1

      If your pastor owns 4 houses a jet BMWs and fancy clothes. I suggest going to another church as your pastor seems more into the church as a way to profit himself then to bring people to god. Don't get me wrong pastors don't need to take a vow of poverty but they shouldn't be living extravigantly either.

    So if 10% is a nice guideline from the OT, do we also take the end of Deut. 14 as a guideline? When is the last time you heard a pastor suggest saving up the tithe for 3 years and then spending it on a huge celebration?

      I guess it depends on the church pastor. Mine often suggest other minastries to donate to an even encourages people to give part or all of their offering to other causes occasionally. The point of a church is to further Gods kingdom not to make the individual church wealthy.

  • @316350

    The New Testament does not mandate that 10% of our income go to the church; if you believe you should tithe, you only have the Old Testament to understand what a tithe is.
    The Old Testament tithe is managed by God’s law, and implemented by the priesthood; no individual Israelite, from the other 12 tribes got to dictate where any portion of their tithe went. If they had a heart to give above and beyond the tithe, an offering, they were free to give to specific ministries of the temple or to the poor and needy.

    • @mcr5577

      Everything is from the Lord and everything you have should be dedicated to the Lord and His glory + kingdom. Not just 10% but 100% of everything you have. Obviously not all to the local church or any church but for purposes that advance Gods Kingdom. Try that out and trust me God will prosper you in all that you do for Him.
      This was an answer to a question. He answered it best he could. I agree some of what he said was incorrect but dont have to say they are lies. He even stated its not mandatory. For example he briefly spoke on the rich. That it would be a problem if a rich person gave 10%..... that doesnt make sense. If you are a rich Christian who wants to tithes to a local church how is it a problem just bc they are wealthy haha?

  • @Romans_3-38
    @Romans_3-38 2 года назад +1

    You should mention that the word 10% is just wrong, it would be around 23% all together. It was never only 10% nor makes it sense nowadays. Don't forget those jews HAD to pay taxes. The priesthood was the government, the rulers. Today we have to pay so many things from our salary, that doesn't make sense. Why should I pay for example 500$ each month to the church?? You pay more than for the taxes. That's just crazy. They don't need so much money. That's not the meaning in the OT nor the NT...

    How can someone give cheerfully from the heart since the heart is desperately wicked? Tithe means 10%! I believe God gave this amount not because He needs, but for us to learn to depend on Him and be good stewards of what is already His! But to give you amount from the wicked heart? The heart will choose the lesser! I choose to pay 10% because tithe means 10% and I'm convicted to pay 10% for His honor and glory!

      I agree to disagree with your statement. "Love God with all your heart and soul". I feel that through the Holy Spirit one aligns his/her desires with what God wants. I'm fully convinced that if you give willingly God also rewards you.
      At the end of the day, it's how you view God and how much trust you put in Him. For me personally, I give an offering that I feel will demonstrate to God that I am not dependent on money but on Him. This enables me to give more and more as God also gives me more. Hope this helps.

    The tithe .was never money. And yes they had money back then. The tithe was part of the levitical law to provide for the Levites. When Christ died on the cross he put aside the law and the ordinances. If you want to tithe then you are bound to keep the entire law perfectly, thus making the death of Christ in vain and you have fallen from Grace.

      Not only tithe was abolished in the New Testament, But also all kinds of offerings...
      The church in the New Testament is One Body, and giving is not from Laity to
      Clergy, But from those who have to those who are in need, that includes the pastors.
      The Scriptures in 1 Corinthians 16 where Piper used to explain the NT giving is not
      the giving to the pastors, but to the needy....
      Paul went to Corinth to ask help from the Christians in Corinth who were more
      abundant than the Christians in Jerusalem where he intended to bring the help
      from Corinth.....

      I've been wrestling with this. There are ministries and organizations that have helped me tremendously and I would like to help them in their work. I"ve been going to a local church and I'm not getting fed enough to tithe to them. They're more so concerned about decor and being the seed for a "mega church."
      When those ambitions were revealed, I've been thinking more and more about my tithe. My tithes (and others') got some fancy crystal chandeliers and light bulbs that need to be replaced every other week. I think my money, which comes the hard way, can do more than pamper someone's ambition!

      @@lawrencejones58 I feel where you're coming from. I went to a church who asked for donations so they could build a 1 million dollar expansion on their church. I also have been to a church where the pastor was asking for donations for his daughters birthday, during a concert! All while showing pictures of her in a lavish jet. That church closed shortly after the concert because it was T-bone that was there and he called them out on it. But what I'm getting at is that, you can give in other ways, your time, your supplies, you can help an elderly person or disabled person go to the grocery store, donate to someone who has medical bills, someone who needs clothes for their kid, make someone a meal, listen and comfort someone who is grieving, there are so many ways you can give without it being money. But if you truly feel that you want to give to a church who you feel is doing God's work then there is nothing wrong with that. Give what God places on your heart to give, pray and ask for guidance, and do it and be happy about it.

      Yes they had God back then now interpretations, unless the Holy Spirit tells you to give, rest is all earthly interpretations.... Giving is a gift from God. If you don't have God in your life, then it's always a matter of credit and debit.... True love of God is a different experience.

    • @dr.rondavidlazarus2757
      @dr.rondavidlazarus2757 2 года назад

      If you think you are giving to the pastor then better don't give it at all..... Jesus came to fulfill the law not to abolish it. If I think Jesus is only in the New Testament, I need to read the Bible more carefully and let God open my eyes . Tithing is not mandatory, that's coming out of a reluctant giver.... Tithing is mandatory this comes out of a greedy getter..... Giving to God and being accountable for the money received is what God puts in your heart.... First things first... Let God fill you first, then you would be a cheerful giver
