It just feels to me that Floor and Nightwish really needed each other. Nightwish needed somebody who could sing pretty much anything they could throw at her, and Floor needed a band that could give her demanding material that allows her to excel at what she does. Personally I find there are some songs that just work perfectly for Tarja and so it must be quite daunting for other vocalists to cover them (and she's such an essential element to the history of the band). I also really loved the albums on which Anette was the vocalist. I think she was courageous to take on the role after Tarja and personally appreciate what she added.
I got into Nightwish because Tarja's voice, her opera tone was in sharp contrast to metal sound, and that was never heard before. I like how you describe her voice as dark, it is indeed!
I think what we all can agree on is that Tarja, Anette, and Floor all have things that make them unique to the others and Tuomas is a brilliant composer who knows how to utilize each one's individual strengths.
Of course, the earlier albums were written to fit her voice. Annette couldn't have her development in Nightwish they couldn't fine tune their sound to match her voice, it's more pop there's no doubt about it, but she is talented too And now they have the opportunity to make so much amazing music, Nightwish won the lottery by having Floor join the team, she is one of the greatest singers in the world in terms of talent and professionalism
My beautiful and amazing Princess yes... it was because of Floor that I listened to Nightwish again, actually... The first time I heard her voice, I thought it fits really well with the Nightwish sound and the more I listened to her, the more I became in love with her voice... I think she's the perfect fit for Nightwish (after Tarja) that has completed the puzzle pieces... but Tarja will always be a part of my heart... her style is something that has opened my mind that opera could also be a part of metal... and the first symphonic metal song (Nemo) that I have listened to is sung by her so she will remain special to me and that will never change... Annette, on the other hand, is a good vocalist too, don't get me wrong, actually, Eva, which she sung, is one of my favorites... it's true that her voice did not fit much with the nightwish's sound but that doesn't mean she's a bad vocalist... I just thought, with her high pitch timber, singing in a metal band could be bad for her vocal chords...
@@zyche03 That is very true! Tarja has a great legacy in Nightwish and in symphonic Metal, Nightwish inspired many other young mental fans to form their own bands, I believe Simone Simons from Epica (one of my absolutely favorite) started singing cause she used to Listen to Nightwish still in the early days Annette is a great singer indeed, It's just that they couldn't have enough time to fine tune their music to match her, if she stayed for maybe one more albums I believe they could've come up with a great album! And ofc Floor is just mesmerising as a singer All three are great singers
I became in love because of Tarja but I stayed because of Floor. I appreciate the effort of Anette, the album they made her was good but the older song dosen't fit her. Floor Jensen can do the old song and the new one too. Love her voice.
Thank you so much for acknowledging how difficult it is to figure out someone's fach (their place in an operatic system) without hearing them sing/develope an operatic sound.
I will always love and follow Tarja she is an angel that walks among us mortals, that said Floor is pure GODDESS. She can do all of it without missing a step.
Tarja was what drew me to Nightwish. My favorite album is Imaginaerum with Annette singing. My favorite song is Floors live version of Ghost Love Score. We also cant forget all three singers are just wonderful conduits for Tuomas' musical and lyrical genius.
I grew up on Tarja's recordings so I think to my ear I'll always prefer that operatic quality, particularly for a song like Nemo, but it was really neat to see them all side by side. I tend to associate that style with Nightwish itself, so to hear some of Anette's stuff sometimes makes me go "Oh, wow, that's Nightwish! I had no idea!" All of them are undoubtedly very talented and it was really neat to hear you deconstruct what was happening between the clips. Thank you!
Even though Nemo was written during the Tarja era, it didn't do her voice justice imo. It was a lot more on the pop side than their other material. She really shines in the older Power Metal stuff and the more epic Symphonic Metal tracks. Never got the fanboy competition on the internet myself. Enjoy listening to all three. :D
it is only one or two old nightwish's songs where I consider that Tarja sounds better than Floor , one of them @Wishmaster, but i compare studio version of Tarja as her life perfomanse much more worse (And this is more likely because she simply doesn’t care about the public in order to try to give it her all.)
As a long-time Nightwish fan, here's how many of us see it. Tarja is pure classical. Annette is pop. Floor is pure Metal. While I never had any real issue with them picking Annette--for the material we *only* knew her for (Imaginareum for example) she was great--she had absolutely no capability of handling the classical / operatic older content. Her performances of older material was a hot mess, to put it mildly. Floor, however, nails and exceeds all of those. Best decision Nightwish has ever made.
Exactly. That is why I cannot imagine DPP sung by Tarja. She would destroy The Poet and The Pendulum because her voice would bring too much darkness when the counterbalance of a brighter voice is required. Basically, every Nightwish era has been composed according to the current singer, and that is why a new singer has it very hard to master both early and new repertoire. Floor is amazing by nailing it all, which shows her huge versatility.
Maybe it's just me but I love all 3 of them lol. I grew up with Tarja so ofc she will always hold a special place for me. But Annete was amazing in DPP and Imaginareum and I truly liked most if not all songs on both albums. And Floor is a metal goddess so there's that. I dunno, I think some people put way too much thought into it. Only thing I didnt like about Annete was that she couldnt really do the old songs like Floor can. But the songs that were written for her, she was amazing in. @@elidanielgarciamartinez3313
@@Diavolo222 Retrospectively, considering the fact that she had no lyrical singing capabilities, do you still think Anette was the right choice for Nightwish at the time? Tuomas Hopolainen October 2013 after Floor had joined - Yes, I do. I’ve said this many times. When I listen to Dark Passion Play and Imaginaerum, I don’t think there is another person who could have sung those songs better than her. I really, honestly think so, and the rest of the band does, as well. That was not the issue.
Awesome coverage on the singers...they’re all 3 completely different vocalists (and all awesome!) Nightwish has been one of my favorite bands for a long time now!!
I like Floor the best. She not only has the most dynamic voice (for lack of a more technical description), but her stage presence is just off the scale.
@WhoDarestheMAN gamer I'm not a huge NW fan, so I only knew a few older songs from Tarja's era. I really like them (except the Phantom ...). I didn't even know who Floor Jansen is, just until a few weeks ago when I discovered her various performances in the Dutch show Beste Zangers. But woooow, I was so impressed! She's incredible. What a singer! Amazing versatility. It doesn't really matter to me if she can sing operatic exactly like Tarja (she probably wouldn't even want to be Tarja's clone) but she can also do metal growls and powerful chest singing that Tarja probably can't. Tarja only sings operatic and she's great in it, but I admire Floor's versatility and I also love her stage presence. Btw, I think there's nothing to complain about performance like this :) ruclips.net/video/UeTyAZtV5wI/видео.html
@WhoDarestheMAN gamer Oh, Phantom of the Opera in particular is the song that I really don't like at all as performed by Nightwish (Tarja and Marko). To me it's awful. Tarja's voice is OK, Marko doesn't fit as a "Phantom" to me at all, he neither looks, nor sounds like what I imagine as phantom. It almost looks/sounds to me like a parody. There's no comparison with Henk Poort. I also hate when singers hold some tones for too short , like Marko does. Sorry, I can't describe it in technical terms ( I'm not a musician and also not a native English speaker). I mostly don't like the "timing". Tarja's voice is nice, but I don't like how they are singing it, it sounds chaotic to me. Floor + Henk are exactly in line with the rhythm, with chords, etc. I wish I could show you what I mean. Henk: Sing oooooonce agaaaaaain with meeeee Marko: Sing once agaaaaaain withme . Also, Floor is playing nicely with it. Listen how she sings "The panthom of the opera is theeeeere". That's why other singers sitting on the couch are making grimaces like "oh this is cool" :) . And stage presence.. Well, that performance in Beste Zangers is one of the most beautiful things I've seen. The chemistry between Floor and Henk is incredible. Floor's movements.. and her grimace when Henk throws in the voice distortion for her :) I love it. He's been her idol since she was a young girl and you can tell from what you see on that stage. . Btw, kudos to the band too, because it's another aspect that makes is soooo good. I like the music more than that of Nightwish in this particular song. . I would definitely recommend watching some reactions by professional musicians on that performance. Even they say it's the best version ever. Sorry, but I really don't like the Nightwish version. Even Nicole Scherzinger's performance sounds better to me than Tarja with Marko. It might be cool if Tarja sung it with Henk Poort the same way as Floor did, just with her typical voice, but the way they sung it in your video... nah, sorry, I can't enjoy it.
@WhoDarestheMAN gamer Yeah I know that video. But I think Tarja's power is only in operatic singing. I'm not sure if she can sing anything else, for example like this: ruclips.net/video/DfYeLUoqw0E/видео.html . Maybe you know some video where she does. Floor, on the other hand, can sing operatic too (although not the same as Tarja of course, because they have different voices), but she can also do other styles and her chest singing is incredible. Btw, have you heard "O mio babbino caro"? There is a version from Tarja and one from Floor. There are comments from true opera fans below Floor's video and it looks like they really enjoyed it. . I just started watching this video. Let's see what the expert says :) ruclips.net/video/WZ3Rl1lT9PY/видео.html
@WhoDarestheMAN gamer Well, if we compare ONLY operatic singing, then yes, Tarja is better, but on the other hand, she doesn't really do anything else. I love how Floor can take any song from other singers and make a stunning version of it. That's what the Beste Zangers show is about. I don't know if you've watched it. That was where I fell in love with Floor, at first I didn't even know she's in Nightwish. It was just a week or so later, when I actually watched Ghost Score Love and a few other songs, which I like very much too. . This is how she sings operatic and honestly, it doesn't matter too much to me if Tarja can sing it louder. I absolutely love this version with Floor's voice and some rock/metal mixed in :) ruclips.net/video/lcLG5X1i2QM/видео.html
@WhoDarestheMAN gamer Oh dear... OK, I think we're done with this one. All vocal coaches here on youtube say exactly the OPPOSITE of what you're saying about Floor, how incredibly talented she is and how she has great technique and control. You can search it up yourself. Or do you need links from me? Sorry, but I'm not gonna feed trolls any more. Enough is enough.
I saw the Nightwish show in Berlin yesterday and Floor was amazing! Not only her voice, but her presence on stage, so much energy! She is just incredible, love her
Hi i really appreciate your professional comment for singers of Nightwish I don't sing but really love Nightwish and for me as a fan Tarja is the best.waiting your other videos greetings from Italy
Exactly, Anette's songs like Storytime are truly epic. For her, who has a sharper voice and a more "pop" style, her songs have a different essence, which I personally like better.
@@maxrav1831 I 100% agree. I don't know what it is but when Floor does songs that weren't made for her it irritates me. She recently did that Frozen cover and it messed up the original for me so now I can't listen to both.
Tbh I think Nemo is Tarja's song - everything about her performances were amazing. I like Floor and think she is a great lead, but Nemo just sounds 'right' when Tarja sings it.
Cool review. Didn’t expect to enjoy your video so much. Usually these vocal coach reaction videos are cringe af, and they hardly ever know the musicians, the song or how to sing... You on the other hand were well prepared, knew what you were talking about and can actually sing! And you weren’t insulting to any of the singers. Thank you for keeping it neutral and honest. Even admitting you can’t reach all the high notes is a big plus. Most of these wannabe vocal divas in their bedrooms act like they know better than the professional singers on stage singing in front of thousands of people selling thousands of records. Will check out more of your videos and your own music!
Those who can really sing and know how much sweat goes into it are usually appreciative on one another... It is mostly asses who do not know much about anything that are insulting. Wishing they were fewer. Great vid, enjoyed!
I want to like this at least a dozen times!!! I like all three singers for different reasons. People act like one is better than the others, and really, it's like comparing an apple, banana, and strawberry. Yeah, they're all fruits (singers), but they didn't become what they are the same way, and aren't even remotely related in type.
I'm part of the facebook group and I can tell I LOVE your approach to these videos explaining technique and not just saying "OMG she's great" every two sentences. Very informative material. thank you!
Mostly agree draskuul. Bringing Floor onboard has been the best decision the band have made. It was a blow for me when Tarja left and (though she's a fine singer) I could never get used to Annette's voice even in songs she recorded with them. Hearing Floor and her versatility (sort of best of both worlds voice) was a breath of fresh air. Immediately feel in love. And of course, she is a goddess in the live shows. Hope to be able to see her/them again one day.
You are now my favorite channel.. I've been playing guitar for 46 of 53 years, and am now addicted to a singing channel, because of your amazing choices of bands you review. Anette Olzon, Elize Ryde, Simone Simmons, you're the best!
first nightwish react video I've seen with all three singers. love that you show all of them and show the differences. the science behind is really interesting. I know how the singers differ from being into and making music pretty much all my life, but hear the science behind how they do it is a little eye opening. A few more videos like this and I might have to subscribe. cheers!
@@Grievance_Studies_Affair_2018 you probably already did research on your own but if you havent , all they're albums are great but a few standout songs are.....Intrinsic, Forlorn Hope , Leaden Legacy , My plegde of allegiance pt 1 , Black Tomb . If you like these you should like mostly everything else .
They really weren't underrated. There sound just wasn't it. Floor didn't make it better that much. The whole band has to be good not just a couple songs.
Floor Jansen to me is the best female singer in the metal genre. She is the full package. I loved Tarja and Annette, love their albums, but I'm enjoying a lot this Nightwish era with Floor. It is like the perfect mix
Nightwish creatively died soon after Tarja left. They haven't made a good album in years. Dark Passion Play was the last thing of quality they made. I can't imagine the band still being active 5 years from now. Their popularity has been waiting for years now. They need to beg Tarja to come back and then get back to basics instead of overwriting songs.
Catriona Colville I seriously doubt Tuomas would write any better songs just because Tarja came back. He has a way of doing music that will never again appear as creative as when the band first broke through.
Catriona I think the reason why Nightwish seemed more creative with Tarja is because Tarja wrote the vocal parts. Tuomas would send Tarja the music and the lyrics and she would decide how to sing it. I don’t think a lot of people know that or give Tarja credit for that, and I really think that’s why newer Nightwish songs have more generic vocals, even if the instrumental parts are good. Tarja’s husband even mentioned that Tarja never received any money for contributing to the songwriting. Tarja’s Wikipedia page says: “Holopainen wrote the pieces and sent Turunen the lyrics and a demo recording of the prerecorded instrumental tracks by mail. Using the demo, Turunen designed her vocal lines and the choral passages.”
@@catrionacolville2192 I've never been a big fan of Nightwish (until Floor) so I don't know a lot of their work, I mostly only know what they are touring with right now and maybe some other songs here and there. I can't prove you wrong with regards to the difference in creative quality but I think The Greatest Show On Earth is a prima example of there still being at least _some_ creative quality in there. Songs like Élan however, while they sound nice, can't match the greatness of compositions like Ghost Love Score. It's easy to the ears but mostly because it's a lot more pop-ish.
I think Anette couldn't reach her full potential at Nightwish. She was very good in Nightwish, but now that she is singing in The Dark Element, just amazing!
@Phoenix GSD she HAS her own Band VUUR. And she has her own solo stuff. And she is constantly doing stuff with Ayreon and with devin Townsend. Also with Amorphis and anathema. Actually her career is great where you been?
It's hard to fill the shoes of someone who is your opposite. People joined Nightwish's fanbase for their unique sound. A sound they helped pioneer and then suddenly they have a much more mainstream and accessible sound? So people felt like they sold out a bit. Anette is very talented but it's hard to fill the shoes of someone who is your opposite who made such an impact on music and is known as " The Voice of Finland " for the country they hail from.
Nobody ever mentions diction. FJansen diction is amazing. No operetic falsetto unless she herself dials it up. She doesn't need that head voice to pull off the job. That voice is coming from her diaphragm. The last scream or note if you will on Ghost... Powerful, clarity and almost effortless. To me it's no contest... This is a rock band. FJ is a rock singer... Period.
Thank You! Everytime Floor sings - you can understand EVERY SINGLE WORD. She has a really wonderful way of singing effectively AND using diction properly.
"Operatic falsetto" is a misnomer. There is no falsetto in Classical singing. Tarja is Finnish (where all the members of Nightwish originally came from), that's her accent. I love it personally, it's like Finland was saying "Look and see what we got."
Mary Z - I absolutely love your analysis. You are truly and supremely educated in vocal analysis/techniques. (Being a spinto tenor myself, I really enjoyed your descriptions and was nodding my head the entire 11 minutes of your video). I am now a SUBSCRIBER!!
Ha. Treading emotionally dangerous waters here :) That was so tastefully and professionally done, sticking to the differences and value of each of them without preference. Brilliant job and great explanation for lay people (like me).
Loved Tarja since the early days and consider her an absolute icon,- never heard Anette in her time in NW but realizing she´s actually a brilliant rock singer,- Floor starts to sing and the gates of Valhalla just swing wide open.
@IRON MAIDEN Are you kidding me? Tarja only operatyc style can sing very well. In past concerts with Nightwish she had too much difficult in rock, pop and other styles. Their interpretation was bored, instead each Floor'notes are riche of passion. She live the Nightwish's songs. Floor is the most complete singer I'd ever seen. Io each case, I love Tarja, but I think that Floor is most complete and she have a voice that I love more. I love more the old Nightwish's songs when is Floor that is sing it. This is the fact. If you don't like, I don't care. We goes on!
I love how you were able to explained their different styles and the way you discribed them was on point! Thx a lot for this. You have my subscribe and like and also a ringbell activation.
She loves this song, it's #1 in her profile on Nightwish website. I guess that's the reason why it sounds so great: singing a song you love most of all, on the stage with one of the greatest metal bands, when many thousands people watching at you and shouting your name - it must be a dream of every singer.
heard Tarja and Floor sing a duet for Over the HIlls and Far away, its gorgeous, for ghost love score i still prefer Tarja but if the 2 could ever duet Ghost Love score it would be bloody epic
Ghost love score is my preferred Nightwis's song and I had listen to it hundred of times performed by Tarja, but Floor's version is incredible and I prefer her.
Ah yes, I've heard it only live from Floor, and I love the emotion in the voice. Because it's an emotional song. And I like it better than Tarja's live. But then I love Tarja's studio version of Ghost Love Score too, which is much better than the live version. Notice how much the song has changed though. ruclips.net/video/0O8e2hMAL6c/видео.html
Except it wasn't nearly as good as the original. It would have been great on it's own if nobody ever heard Tarja's original, but trying to follow that...it just isn't on the same level. My opinion anyway.
Great video! I like your analysis. It made me realize why is it that I still don’t get use to Floor. It’s because she is in the middle. By now I’m already convinced that she was a great addition to Nightwish, I love the way she performs the old Tarja songs, which in my opinion, Anette couldn’t, I also love the energy she has, tuning, register.... but somehow, I still don’t like Nightwish’s last album. Maybe it’s not because of Floor, but because there is too much repetition of musical elements in the arrangements and compositions. Believe me, I’m a Nightwish fan, I love them, but I’m still not hooked up with their current set up. Maybe I just have to go see them live. :)
I loved After Forever and was happy when I saw Floor even joined in Ayreon for a song or two, and when she joined Nightwish, I was quite happy, she's the perfect fit for that band. This is the first time I've actually agreed with someone speaking on the three vocalists, most people I encounter seem to worship Tarja, I was just never hugely into the classical style, Anette sounded kinda meek in comparison to Tarja however, so she didn't feel completely right either, but it finally opened for Marco to do a song, I love the Islander. So when Floor became the new vocalist, Nightwish became better in my mind, but opinions differ, I ain't gonna hold others opinions against 'em, but still nice to see someone not just shitting on the two other vocalists because they're not Tarja.
I'd love to agree on Floor being a perfect fit, however, I feel Nightwish somehow dulls her down quite a bit in search of something that sounds "radio friendly". Its too bad Adrienne from the band Blackbriar is in that band. I think she would've been some one who could've filled in. I love Floor, but since you brought up After Forever, it seemed between that band and Revamp, plus a few other things that Arjen put together, you get a more "powerful" presence than most of what Nightwish seems to want to do now. Night wish with Tarja had more of an "in your face" approach to a good portion of the songs but became watered down & pop rock-ish by the time Annette came in & stayed somewhere between pop-metal and maybe, euro new metal mixed with symphonic/ melodic ( if you wonder why new metal, its due to a lack of cool guitar solos like NW used to have.) As far as Marko, he's kind of a cool singer & reminds me a bit of Devon Townsend vocally mixed in with Meatloaf as a vocalist. I also originally thought Floor was there only as a "temporary" singer helping NW out? This was what folks were told before she decided to go more full time with them. It would he nice to have NW redevelop a more "grittier" sound like they had with Tarja but IDK if Tuomas would "allow" it.
I think it's hard to compete with Tarja. She is literally the Opera + Metal pioneer in symphonic metal. The go-to face. It's like trying to replace Aretha Franklin in a soul music lineup. So that major impact ontop of her having SUCH a distinctive voice? her voice is not only more different it's just fuller - thicker - richer and heavier. It packs a lot more drama to it and this gives Tarja's diva role a lot of charisma and depth that is aluring to see to a LOT of people. Plus Tarja has only improved given Opera singers don't reach prime til 40. It's understandable why people are let down by comparison. In Anette's case they came for Tarja and got her opposite. In Floor's case, she literally replaced a woman that she is unavoidably massively inspired by?
Me too! But I think Floor swing much better in AF than in nightwish even that Floor as wonderful and its gret having her again in a great band like nightwish
I'm not shitting on Floor and Anette, I just think that Tarja sticks better to the spirit of the band. You can hear in the first albums that she is also a muse and clearly inspired for the writing of the lyrics also I liked the duo Tarja/Marco I compare to Beauty and the Beast. With Floor and Marco, there is two beasts. That's why I'll always prefer Tarja, but not on stage: she doesn't have the metal culture and doesn't fit. Sorry for english.
I can't stand the hell out of her... I can't. Nosey, vibratoholic sounding like a goat, exaggerating, misses the notes multiple times, changing the songs. It's awful to my ears when she sings live. And no, I can't stand Anette either. I mentioned Tarja changing the song. Anette doesn't change the song, she smash them and sing non existent songs instead. Floor man. Floor.
Lucy LUCA tarja didn’t use to do this until recently, it’s not fair to brand her overall career like this. If you’re new to nightwish/tarja keep doing some research until you’re in a suitable position to moan about stuff.
Dennis van Opstal even so. She had an eight year career of good live performances up to that point. So you don’t get to shit on her entire career as a singer.
Thank you, that helps to explain a lot about the difference in singers. I wonder if Tarja being the only Finnish speaker, and as Finnish is spoken in the back / top of the mouth, has different phrasing in her singing style.
This is the best explanation I have heard about the different colors and timbres, and manipulation of the epiglottis. This video is great because of hearing the different voice styles side by side.
..Floor is a powerhouse compared to the other two ladies, she also is in technique ahead of them. Her range goes from low grunts to five octaves high, compared to the mezzo soprano Tarja is with a range of 4 octaves. And yes stage prescence, also way ahead of the other two.
@@AlexisRanae she is my favourite, but Floor is an incredible singer too, I prefer the brightness of Anette's voice, but Floor is amazing, she should go solo to flourish.
Tennislovingcoffeeaddict floor is amazing we can all agree. And if she were to go solo? Man oh man. That’ll be delightful. My favourite is still Tarja, with a few songs preferred by Floor I admit, and Anette is a close second because she just brings a whole different mood for me! I enjoy her love performances. She’s full of life and smiles and gets me going.
@@AlexisRanae it's a joy to watch her perform on stage, she had big shoes to fill with Tarja, and best for me is that she didn't try to copy, but she reinterpreted the songs, credit also to Tuomas. I do prefer Tarja on some songs, but just now and then, with Siren and Sleeping Sun, Anette dazzles.
Thank you, I appreciate your video on the Nightwish Vocalists. Nicely done. Clear, concise info, with the more technical stuff made understandable. Much appreciated Although still new to me, I think I get why fans are so passionate and protective.
Mary Z, you are a gentle......woman and a scholar. This was a really good comparison, and your detailed analysis really helps me understand the terms involved in how singers are evaluated and described. Really good video, and I had to thumbscribe.
Nightwish fans are the most toxic bunch I've ever encountered. On a video analysing their vocal styles, every comment is "omg anette sux floor is amazing!!!1111". God knows why I venture down here.
I agree. Tarja is who caught my attention originally. I've listened to so many of the live performances. Tarja always was wonderful. Anette is only good in the song bye bye beautiful. Floor is amazing but I've heard slip ups and tones that were less than desirable when she was trying to do what tarja does. So for me it's a 60/40. Tarja being the 60 and floor the 40. Getting rid of Anette was their best decision.
So... think it`s comes time for Tuomas to change front vocalist again ("we do Ameri ... pff ... we do band great again"), because floor with time becames booring, but marco did his solo album (out in January 2020) ... sooo...maybe new solist will be Man, not female ... :P ;)))
Just found your channel. I am a musical theatre/pop singer and even I find your videos incredibly insightful and very entertaining. Thank you very much keep up the content!!
I really like this video. It's very technical and I like videos that take a technical look at it, but yet you explain it so clearly to those who don't know much about vocals can understand.
I remember hearing Nightwish for the first time almost 10 years ago, and I loved the instrumentals but haaaaaaaated the vocals, and I kept thinking, 'Damn...if they had a different singer I'd love this band.' Then they got Anette and I was indifferent.... And then they got Floor, and now I can't get enough of this band.
I have had the exact same experience. Loved the instrumentals but just did not like the voice of Tarja. The constant opera was just getting on my nerves (sorry tarjaholics just my opinion). Then Annette came who seemed out of place but I liked a few songs a lot (fi I want my tears back) but it did not really grab me. And then I heard the ghost score live version in Buenos Aires and man .. I was smitten. Instant fan. Must have replayed that epic ending like a zillion times. I dare to say it is a better version than the Wacken 2013 one.
Same here! When Poet and the pendulum came out I started listening to them more but only the albums with Anette. When Floo was cast I started listening to it all is the perfect voice for this band
I've been to much of the same, but I was already a huge After Forever fan. so to me the current Nightwish is good because it reminds me of AF, but AF was still better.
Let me just give you props for ACTUAL VOCAL ANALYSIS. Ever since I clicked on one “vocal teacher reacts” video, RUclips’s algorithm keeps serving them up in my feed, yet yours is the only one with such rich analysis and not simply “omg reacts”. Thank you!
Eh... So this is my opinion about all of this. Im after 30y old , so i remember nightwish with Tarja. I was like 10, maybe 12 years old when i first time heard this band. And after this many years for ME still the best will be Tarja. I didnt listen the band for "beat" but mostly for Tarja voice. As it was loong time ago for ME its nostalgic and memories. And if we taking about taste i prefer Tarja style. Because of her Nigthwish was ... diffrent? If i can say in this way. They had for ME more "immersive". Ofcourse 20 years ago times were also different. Rest of the singers for ME are too pop ish. Some kind of new age style without "immerse". But if you still like Tarja and also other singers its just your taste and i dont care its your musical comfort and happines. For me its just ONLY Tarja. Btw did u ever saw this singer who sings Nigtwish song? 1 ruclips.net/video/zfzIDdHql1s/видео.html 2 ruclips.net/video/dNkwiaD5Dck/видео.html After Tarja she is my favoirte now :) PS. Whos still listening/bying Tarjas solos? :)
What do you mean by ME? Anyway, you may be a fan of Tarja, that is undoubtedly an amazing singer, and has a great legacy in Nightwish, but saying that Floor is just pop is simply absurd, Floor is technically trained too for classic music / Opera, so is Simone from Epica, Floor is one of the greatest singers in the world. Both in raw talent, expertise and training, and years of experience. She already debated incredibly strong in After forever
@@MybeautifulandamazingPrincess Well. U got my answer earlier "Some kind of new age style without "immerse". But if you still like Tarja and also other singers its just your taste and i dont care its your musical comfort and happines. For me its just ONLY Tarja". And if Floor is the best on the world she would choose smth better than Nightwish or she should be way better recognized. I know very few ppl who knows who actually is Floor
To me its almost like it's a new group. I did like the old nightwish back in the day, but never thought of it as world class. How they are now is different and decently world class. They change a lotm
Hello from Wisco 😄. Nice detailed info. Entertaining comparisons. I really like Annette as the Nightwish vocalist and was a little disappointed learning of them parting. But learning Floor took over, I cheered up. What a great transition for the band. Anyway I hope you’re doing well. 🤘🏻
So refreshing to watch you talk about the technical aspects rather than just sitting there going “they sound great...they sound great”. Definitely enjoyed this video a lot!
Same with me and Tarja still has a place in my heart with her warm round operatic tonal qualities. I watched the video of Tarja's presser the day after the band sent her away and I was very depressed. I quit Nightwish completely until I heard Floor singing with them at Wacken 2013. She has captured my heart with her masterful singing as Mary has so eloquently described. Without doubt a premier vocal analyst(I love her voice too!!)
Tarja was the reason I got into Night wish, and also the reason i stopped listening to them. Her voice just seemed to sound the same on every song after a while and it got boring listen to them.
yep, my heart will always be with Tarja as well, because she was the reason I started listening the band but I like Floor as well, I hope that they dont let her go
@@DEA983 yep, they created Nightwish as a heavy metal band to support Tarjas amazing voice, many people dont know that, I would argue that for that alone Tarja was very important for Nightwishs success....I would say that Tarja made the band famous and when she "left" I stayed with them but Anette disappointed me soo badly that I didnt return until couple of years ago when I heard that they have changed their vocalist again, I would say that Floor saved the band for sure
Omg finally someone who can actually explain in technical terms what I mean when I think that Floor has a very medium tone! Cuz I knew I was hearing it. In my head I’ve always considered Floor and also Sharon den Adel to have very “neutral” voices but didn’t know why I was hearing that or how to describe it well.
Rosetta Allen have you ever listened to Marco sing? He’s easily the most versatile of the four. Also listen to some Tarot, you’ll see what he can do. Tuomas just doesn’t use Marco to his full potential at all. Marco has one of the most sensitive and yet powerful voices in European metal.
@@deutschesmaedchen I actually have listened to that, and I know his range, I also know ALL 3 girls in their solo work and other bands. while I LOVE nightwish, he did not and does not utilize the range of the women at all.
Rosetta Allen uhm he doesn’t need to, he’s a man? He’s got a male range, why would he go outside of his natural spectrum? The women can’t sing the lower register as well as him either. Wtf kind of apples to oranges sort of comparison is that even?
You are probably my favorite vocal coach on youtube in the sense that you know exactly what you are saying and the insights you gave were informative. I mean once i listen to you, I am not confused anymore. Next time do react on Lzzy Hale's singing...how does she sing like that 😍😍😍 It's insane
Floor isn't easy on the ears for me. I find her grating after some time and I think it's because of the loud style and lack of dynamic range. Not that she doesn't have great range, I mean range variety. To me it starts sounding samey. I also find that there's too many attempts to deliver power and none of them feel special after awhile because it's never a nice big build up to a pay off that is a highlight. It's a bit constant and that could be the writing style also.
@@wiru.studio Blame it on Tarja for being a complete diva who thought the band couldn't survive without her, if you do your research. Yep, that's why they are now bigger and better than ever, and I have been a fan since Oceanborn before anyone questions it. We all have our own opinions but before calling anyone a prat I suggest you do your homework ;)
Anyway - having watched the extra materials in Nightwish's From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era DVD/Blu Ray, easy to see some reasons why Tarja wanted to leave the band too
Thank you for the comment and for the explanation. I have a smidgen of musical knowledge, based from my experiences in High School band ad choir and a one semester voice class in college, but I had no idea on most of the technical aspects of the differences between 'belting' and classical/operatic singing, nor of the differences in the types of mixing. I also had no idea what 'color' meant in terms of voice. It was interesting to learn this, and also to hear the explanations on exactly what makes the stylings of Tarja, Anette, and Floor. I could hear the differences, but did not know the techniques that went into them.
@@stefanmihalea I'd actually suggest Zuberoa Aznárez from Diabulus in Musica is the closest to Tarja on the scene at the moment. She has a very similar voice. Very talented too.
Amazing! I love learning more from singing styles! A Lot of fans are always critizing how the vocalists sing each other’s era songs doesn’t paying attention to this differences!
It is very difficult to say anything objectively about these three singers when it comes to who is the best. Many Nightwish fans who were with from the beginning connect Nightwish with Tarja and connect her very classic opera-like voice with the band; some of them have never really been able to accept Anette or Floor. Conversely, there are many who did not like the mix of classical song and heavy metal; they could do much better with Anette and not least Floor. Many people therefore began listening to Nightwish when Anette came and fell for her simple pop / rock-like style and perhaps not least her special (dare I call it) innocent charm with Swedish accent. Others found it difficult to go from opera/Tarja to pop/Anette, but on the other hand became extremely enthusiastic with Floor, who, firstly, could sing metal and who, secondly, could do so much else. But objectively and judged on live concerts (where one cannot manipulate and adjust the voice in the same way), Tarja is technically very good, while many concerts with Anette suffered terribly, partly that she sang out of tune and partly had tremendous difficulty getting the sound and strength of some of the high notes. Floor sings like Tarja almost always in tune and also manages to sing the high notes convincingly; maybe not quite like Tarja, but at least it is far from Anette's occasional rather awful attempt to hit the notes. But in addition, for me, all of Flor's style, attitude, appearance, performance, etc. is exactly what Nightwish missed in the past. Personally, it was with Floor that I started listening to Nightwish.
I discovered Nightwish with Tarja, discovered symphonic metal through them, and it was a journey. I was heartbroken when Tarja left. Her voice was something so beautiful and it was perfect with Nightwish's sound. The only other vocalist I know that could take her place was Floor, but she was already in After Forever (I also considered SImone Simons from Epica, but Floor has more power and a darker tone than Simone, and at the time, Simone wasn't as consistent than she is now)... They announced Anette as their new singer, but I didn't want to judge herbefore hearing her sing her stuff. Her first introduction to me was through Amaranth, and let me tell you, it wasn't a good one, lol. It is the only song of Nightwish that I do not stand. Can't hear it. Even with Floor, there's something about the song that ruffles my feathers, even if I can tolerate it that much better with Floor. It took me years (I kid you not, literal years) to give Anette's era a new chance, and it was in 2010, I think. I tried and listened to the whole DPP album and was like "Ok, ok, I see you, I get you". Imaginaerum came out and I loved it. However, did not get tickets for the concert, because I knew I would not enjoy Anette's rendition of older songs and didn't like the fact that she wasn't consistent in live concerts. Floor suffered from her burn-out during that period too, if I'm not mistaken (or it already started in 2010). And then, 2012, later in the year, Anette left the band during the North American tour. I vaguely heard of it, but didn't know who would replace her... And then Nightwish posted a video on their official channel with Floor freaking Jansen. Imagine my shock at seeing one of my all-time favourite vocalists with the band that started it all :o I was over the mooooon! And Ghost Love Score! One of my favourites of them too, and she did that, and I had multiple Floorgasms during the video, I admit. After that, there was the Wacken show, and, and... I was sooooo hoping she would stay with the band! And she did! And now, a match made in heaven!
This video came up by chance. I have never heard of Mary Z before and I have no idea what she is talking about but never the less this is awesome work. :)
Like it or not, there is more to a singer than just the voice. While I feel that Tarja made the band with her singing she also had a fantastic stage presence with glamour and style. The other two lack that completely. It is like trading your flashy Cadillac for a run down Beetle.
Love the breakdown. For me Tarja is my favorite since I been listening to Nightwish since thier album. I do also love Floor and feel she is the most overall talented of the 3. Annette is not a bad singer but I feel she was not the right singer for Nightwish.
Neither Anette nor Floor come even CLOSE to Tarja - Tarja yes, she was the first lead of Nightwish and brought that classical stuff into the scene, but oh boy, in such a direct comparison you can really hear how much better her voice was (and still is today) that the others. Not saying that they are bad, but in this check up there can only be Tarja. And ofc Marco, Mr. Hold my beer, Ill rock this all alone
I'm curious about a real analysis of how Babymetal's Su-Metal has grown and improved her voice over time, now that they've been around for a few years. Think that'd be pretty interesting!
This has been the only vocal coach reaction video where I left learning something. Thanks for making me slightly smarter in an area I know nothing about!

Marco is great! Love him! :)
Technically Troy also does occasional backing vocals now :)
Well if you want to count Alissa White-Gluz and Elize Ryd for that one show in Denver 2012
@@MCO2ATL2DTWby777 always. And there's even a recording of Elize singing Nemo
Also, Tapio WIlska (formerly of Finntroll) also did some vocals on early albums
I became really in love with Nightwish because of Tarja... Her style is my favorite... It adds spells to the poetic lyrics of nightwish's songs...
Of course, the earlier albums were written to fit her voice. Annette couldn't have her development in Nightwish they couldn't fine tune their sound to match her voice, it's more pop there's no doubt about it, but she is talented too
And now they have the opportunity to make so much amazing music, Nightwish won the lottery by having Floor join the team, she is one of the greatest singers in the world in terms of talent and professionalism
Tarja has a great legacy in Nightwish and in symphonic Metal, Nightwish inspired many other young mental fans to form their own bands, I believe Simone Simons from Epica (one of my absolutely favorite) started singing cause she used to Listen to Nightwish still in the early days
Annette is a great singer indeed, It's just that they couldn't have enough time to fine tune their music to match her, if she stayed for maybe one more albums I believe they could've come up with a great album!
And ofc Floor is just mesmerising as a singer
All three are great singers
@@MybeautifulandamazingPrincess very well said... 😊😊😊
Three angels, each marking a time in an enduring ensemble of competent musicians! Nightwish!
I will always love and follow Tarja she is an angel that walks among us mortals, that said Floor is pure GODDESS. She can do all of it without missing a step.
The voice colors of all Nightwish singers are as follows:
Tarja: Red.
Anette: Blue.
Floor: Gold.
Tuomas: Purple.
Sami: Black.
Marco: Perkkele.
Perkele. ;)

Freaking loved Floor in After Forever. Glad she's back in the main music scene.
Could not agree more.
EXACTLY RIGHT!.
@@Diavolo222
Retrospectively, considering the fact that she had no lyrical singing capabilities, do you still think Anette was the right choice for Nightwish at the time?
Tuomas Hopolainen October 2013 after Floor had joined -
Yes, I do. I’ve said this many times. When I listen to Dark Passion Play and Imaginaerum, I don’t think there is another person who could have sung those songs better than her. I really, honestly think so, and the rest of the band does, as well. That was not the issue.
Awesome coverage on the singers...they’re all 3 completely different vocalists (and all awesome!)
Nightwish has been one of my favorite bands for a long time now!!
Thanx very much for this extraordinary comparison of the three singing goddesses ;)
Good idea, good analysing!
Greetings from Germany/Berlin
Henk: Sing oooooonce agaaaaaain with meeeee
Marko: Sing once agaaaaaain withme
.
Also, Floor is playing nicely with it. Listen how she sings "The panthom of the opera is theeeeere". That's why other singers sitting on the couch are making grimaces like "oh this is cool" :)
.
I'm not sure if she can sing anything else, for example like this: ruclips.net/video/DfYeLUoqw0E/видео.html
.
Let's see what the expert says :)
ruclips.net/video/WZ3Rl1lT9PY/видео.html
I absolutely love this version with Floor's voice and some rock/metal mixed in :)
ruclips.net/video/lcLG5X1i2QM/видео.html
@WhoDarestheMAN gamer Oh dear... OK, I think we're done with this one. All vocal coaches here on youtube say exactly the OPPOSITE of what you're saying about Floor, how incredibly talented she is and how she has great technique and control.

Annette did amazing on her songs, Nemo was not for her but she did her best.
I love Annetes version of Nemo it's floors version that irritates me.
@@MatiasZunigaV I personally like Anette's era more. Her era just has great sound to it.
Tbh I think Nemo is Tarja's song - everything about her performances were amazing. I like Floor and think she is a great lead, but Nemo just sounds 'right' when Tarja sings it.
Floor jansen shined best in her "ayreon" era. She did an amazing job, there!

Yeah, well stop watching reaction videos on pornhub, and you'll get better reactions.
Very informative material. thank you!
Please review Sharon den Adel from Within Temptation.

It could be freaking amazing!
She's the perfect woman.

with Fllor it al ed;pends on what part of the song you ar listening to , she changes style throughout. Amazing versatility.
This is awesome. Thanks so much for posting all 3 together in comparison!!!
After Forever was an underrated or not well known Gem. I still listen to them once in a while. So sad that they split/quit.

I love after forever... awesome band... with floor
Personal preference...Floor Jansen hands down is my favorite.
Tarja’s Wikipedia page says:
“Holopainen wrote the pieces and sent Turunen the lyrics and a demo recording of the prerecorded instrumental tracks by mail. Using the demo, Turunen designed her vocal lines and the choral passages.”
I love Floor
@@catrionacolville2192 I've never been a big fan of Nightwish (until Floor) so I don't know a lot of their work, I mostly only know what they are touring with right now and maybe some other songs here and there. I can't prove you wrong with regards to the difference in creative quality but I think The Greatest Show On Earth is a prima example of there still being at least _some_ creative quality in there. Songs like Élan however, while they sound nice, can't match the greatness of compositions like Ghost Love Score. It's easy to the ears but mostly because it's a lot more pop-ish.
Excellent analysis. I love Nightwish and all of their singers. Thank you for your work.
I think Anette couldn't reach her full potential at Nightwish.
She was very good in Nightwish, but now that she is singing in The Dark Element, just amazing!
A big problem was, the first album published after she joined was still written for Tarja (who is classically trained).
@Phoenix GSD anneke is the best
@Phoenix GSD she HAS her own Band VUUR. And she has her own solo stuff. And she is constantly doing stuff with Ayreon and with devin Townsend. Also with Amorphis and anathema.
Actually her career is great where you been?
@Phoenix GSD I said ANNEKE from the beginning. I never said Annette. Please read
My favourite will always be Tarja although all of them are amazing singers. Tarja had this angelic voice which is unmatched by anyone I know so far.
Oh yes qwq
Oh yes qwq
Try therion's soprano, Lori Lewis, she is a heart-meltinggggg...
much better than tarja.
You should enjoy the 3 singers specially Floors After forever songs or her old of nightwish! Tarja magnificent with her solo project!!
I don’t think she owns an angelic voice. She is a queen of mystery with powerful voice of a siren rather than a lovely angel. Lol
They're all great.. But Tarja is what gave nightwish their signature sound
"Operatic falsetto" is a misnomer. There is no falsetto in Classical singing. Tarja is Finnish (where all the members of Nightwish originally came from), that's her accent. I love it personally, it's like Finland was saying "Look and see what we got."
Floor all the way! To what the band has evolved to now, she is the perfect match.
Mary Z - I absolutely love your analysis. You are truly and supremely educated in vocal analysis/techniques. (Being a spinto tenor myself, I really enjoyed your descriptions and was nodding my head the entire 11 minutes of your video). I am now a SUBSCRIBER!!
Floor is the total package
Ha. Treading emotionally dangerous waters here :) That was so tastefully and professionally done, sticking to the differences and value of each of them without preference. Brilliant job and great explanation for lay people (like me).
This was simply the best analysis of comparing all 3 singers.
Loved Tarja since the early days and consider her an absolute icon,- never heard Anette in her time in NW but realizing she´s actually a brilliant rock singer,-
Floor starts to sing and the gates of Valhalla just swing wide open.
I like both tarja and Anette, but Floor is the most versatile singer they've ever had, no doubt.
Funny
]
@@marciosouza3371Not funny. Completely true.
I totally agree
@IRON MAIDEN Are you kidding me? Tarja only operatyc style can sing very well. In past concerts with Nightwish she had too much difficult in rock, pop and other styles. Their interpretation was bored, instead each Floor'notes are riche of passion. She live the Nightwish's songs. Floor is the most complete singer I'd ever seen.
Io each case, I love Tarja, but I think that Floor is most complete and she have a voice that I love more.
I love more the old Nightwish's songs when is Floor that is sing it.
This is the fact.
If you don't like, I don't care. We goes on!
@IRON MAIDEN ahahahah please! You really drunken ahahaha
I love how you were able to explained their different styles and the way you discribed them was on point! Thx a lot for this. You have my subscribe and like and also a ringbell activation.
Floor's version of Ghost Love Score is wonderful. It is the rare talent of singing a song as good or better as the original.
Night wish with Tarja had more of an "in your face" approach to a good portion of the songs but became watered down & pop rock-ish by the time Annette came in & stayed somewhere between pop-metal and maybe, euro new metal mixed with symphonic/ melodic ( if you wonder why new metal, its due to a lack of cool guitar solos like NW used to have.)
As far as Marko, he's kind of a cool singer & reminds me a bit of Devon Townsend vocally mixed in with Meatloaf as a vocalist.
I also originally thought Floor was there only as a "temporary" singer helping NW out? This was what folks were told before she decided to go more full time with them.
It would he nice to have NW redevelop a more "grittier" sound like they had with Tarja but IDK if Tuomas would "allow" it.
@Necroglobule Oh dear... that one came low!
And I like it! :P
Loved hearing your discussion of Nightwish. I accidentally came across the genre many years ago thanks to the internet and have been hooked.
Of the three singers, Tarja sings with the most open throat. And her voice has the most unique character, that's why she's my favorite.
Seventhsonofamaiden it’s why she also conveys more power, overall. An open throat means more natural volume and consistency without strain.
@@deutschesmaedchen allready in 2004 tarja sucked balls live.
Terrible.
Not only missed notes but fucked them up completely
Dennis van Opstal even so. She had an eight year career of good live performances up to that point. So you don’t get to shit on her entire career as a singer.
Oh man! I love all three singers and massive fan of Nightwish.. Loved this video! ♥ ♥ ♥
Thank you, that helps to explain a lot about the difference in singers. I wonder if Tarja being the only Finnish speaker, and as Finnish is spoken in the back / top of the mouth, has different phrasing in her singing style.
Dutch (Floor her native language) has that same "quality".
This is the best explanation I have heard about the different colors and timbres, and manipulation of the epiglottis. This video is great because of hearing the different voice styles side by side.
Knowledge is very attractive. Normally I am not into singing but this was very interesting.
Good job broadening my horizons.
I personally prefer Floor over Tarja just because I feel like her stage presence and way of performing fit the band better.
And floor is hotter
Floor is amazing and can do what no other can, but Tarja has the original content molded to her, it's like she's the voice of the real Nightwish
..Floor is a powerhouse compared to the other two ladies, she also is in technique ahead of them. Her range goes from low grunts to five octaves high, compared to the mezzo soprano Tarja is with a range of 4 octaves. And yes stage prescence, also way ahead of the other two.
@@blodekont5458 Tarja doesn't reach four octaves. She said in an interview her range was three octaves.
110% fllorgasm. Tarja 100% Anette 70%
I get why people obsess over Tarja and Floor, I just favour the brightness of Anette contrasted with the music. So much emotion from her.
Anette is amazing. And she’s individualistic. Doesn’t sound like a cover artist doing karaoke like floor...
@@AlexisRanae yes anette is amazing at a childs party singing without emotion
Thank you, I appreciate your video on the Nightwish Vocalists.
Nicely done. Clear, concise info, with the more technical stuff made understandable. Much appreciated
Although still new to me, I think I get why fans are so passionate and protective.
Fun fact: Anettes previous experience before Nightwish was as a country singer!
Hello from a Swedish fan of your channel
that makes sens!
Mary Z, you are a gentle......woman and a scholar. This was a really good comparison, and your detailed analysis really helps me understand the terms involved in how singers are evaluated and described. Really good video, and I had to thumbscribe.
And still would love to hear about Corey Taylor.....based on his wide rage and style or if we were doing screamers only how about Randy Blythe?
great idea!!
Ugh while Tarja did well at the end of an era concert, shes said she was getting sick before the show. Not the best choice for comparison at all
The conclusion is: Floor is the right singer in the right Band doing the right thing. All hail to the Queen!
There was never any doubt in my mind to be honest.
The Valkyrie strikes again and again... 😁 😁 May her blessings be upon us 🤟

I LOVE Floor so much! She is absolutely amazing and she was fantastic live!
Ahhh the usual metal debates on RUclips. The keyboard warriors are out. Time to grab popcorn 😂
Nightwish fans are the most toxic bunch I've ever encountered. On a video analysing their vocal styles, every comment is "omg anette sux floor is amazing!!!1111". God knows why I venture down here.
@@PJBonoVox They are just very passionate, just like any fandom out there.
@@PJBonoVox I personally think the 3 of them are amazing, they all bring something different to Nightwish. 😊
Amazing video! I have never heard this type of classification of various voices. Very informative!

idiot.
Thank you Dylan!
Floor is the MASTER in different styles .She's amazing
I really like this video. It's very technical and I like videos that take a technical look at it, but yet you explain it so clearly to those who don't know much about vocals can understand.
I remember hearing Nightwish for the first time almost 10 years ago, and I loved the instrumentals but haaaaaaaated the vocals, and I kept thinking, 'Damn...if they had a different singer I'd love this band.'
Then they got Anette and I was indifferent....
Good choice nightwish forever
I just found them this year. So of course I started going back to hear the older albums. Tarja always seems like she’s off beat to me.
Thank you!
🙏🙏🙏 TY!
If there's one "vocal coach does thing with/talks about/reacts to [song]" video about Nightwish that's actually worth listening to, it's this.
Very informative.....and interesting. I dont know why i missed this channel all those times. Liked and Subscribed. Thank you, Mary Z.

I love all tarja solo material all amazing stuff
I would love to hear an analysis of Anneke van Giersbergen's voice, singing and technique.
So refreshing to watch you talk about the technical aspects rather than just sitting there going “they sound great...they sound great”. Definitely enjoyed this video a lot!
Tarja was the reason I got into Nightwish, and then into metal in general. Floor is great as well, love her.
Her voice just seemed to sound the same on every song after a while and it got boring listen to them.
yep, my heart will always be with Tarja as well, because she was the reason I started listening the band but I like Floor as well, I hope that they dont let her go
Same. And also Nightwish as we know it today, exists only because of Tarja. Tuomas change his acoustic music so it can follow Tarja's full voice.
What about the best vocalist of nightwish ? I mean marco
Agreed!
Sorry while he has a good growling voice, he does not have the technical skill or range the ladies do
Rosetta Allen have you ever listened to Marco sing?
Thank you! This made me understand my own singing waaay better!
To me Tarja was the best option for Nightwish and I don't think Anette is the worst one. She was just not meant for the band that's all.
blame on tuomas for being a brat
@@wiru.studio Blame it on Tarja for being a complete diva who thought the band couldn't survive without her, if you do your research. We all have our own opinions but before calling anyone a prat I suggest you do your homework ;)
Floor rules
Alex Kelly - chill. Tarja and Nightwish are happier doing their own separate music.
Anyway - having watched the extra materials in Nightwish's From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era DVD/Blu Ray, easy to see some reasons why Tarja wanted to leave the band too
A very nice break down of these three very talented soprano singing ladies :) \m/
Can you do a video comparing the three singers of Iron Maiden? Would love to hear your opinion.
React to Simone Simons (Epica)
Ditto. If anyone can match or come close to Tarja it's Simone Simons.
@@edwinsparda7622 OMG! How could i forgot Simone??? Right, the most close to Tarja Is Simone!
@@stefanmihalea I'd actually suggest Zuberoa Aznárez from Diabulus in Musica is the closest to Tarja on the scene at the moment. She has a very similar voice. Very talented too.
Simone Simons blows Tarja out of the water. Her operatic voice is better but ahe can also hit the more "rock" or "metal" vocals
@@TheReTurnersFlips what about dianne van Gierbergen
I love floor she rocks the stage for the band her vocals are supreme
I've come to accept Floor (and I love Floor) it's her "Floorcleaners" (her most ardent fans who'll shit on Tarja, in Tarja videos) I can't stand.
This video came up by chance. I have never heard of Mary Z before and I have no idea what she is talking about but never the less this is awesome work. :)
I love them and listen to them all. Appreciate the music and stop bashing the poor singers. This is seriously getting old.
Thank you - it's been really nice to get a professional comparison of the three NW's singers.
Let's not overlook the genius of Tuomas. He's consistently written songs that play up the strengths of their current singer.
And Floor has to sing a lot of songs NOT written for her and does it perfectly.
