Callum Smith does not have one elite level prime win on his record, how on earth did anyone think he would beat Betabiev.
The only reason I gave him even a punchers chance was bc of Beterbiev's age.

These had only watched Beterbiev once before Saturday. Our experts here were surprised that he was that dominant and didn't realise he had boxing ability 😂😂😂
I haven't seen anyone else in boxing media say that Saturday was a surprise.
They don't understand how good he is
Beterbiev approaches a fight like a problem. He doesn't always need to be so defensively sound. It depends on the opponent. There was nothing in this fight he hadn't employed in previous fights. Also, smiths stock was blown up too much for his performances against bauderlique and castillo. Those guys gave smith so many opportunities. They played right into smiths hands. That's why smith would've benefited from fighting someone at level after bivol and beterbiev, instead of taking such a big jump from who he fought to fighting the number one guy.
@@drystkrab269 Smith was so poor against Canelo as well, the only counter to that going into this fight was he was now more comfortable at 175. Problem is as you say his 2 fights at 175 weren’t really enough to suggest he’d be a real handful for Beterbiev. Didn’t have that momentum going in
He's kinda like GGG in that he's a far better technical boxer than most people give him credit for. You don't need to run around the outside and roll your shoulder to be a good boxer.
@@CS-pl8fc definitely. Even saw people talking about Bam Rodriguez v Sunny Edwards as “boxer v puncher” which is way off. They just look for flashy movements as you say
And power/stoppages often becomes too much of the focal point of some boxers when in reality they have a lot more facets to their game
Whether Callum wants it at this stage in his career, a domestic fight with Yarde on the potential Hearn vs Warren Saudi card would be a great fight.
My thoughts exactly. But they are right. Aside from domestic or promotional bragging rights there is nothing in that fight. Callum has to ask himself does that justify risking his well being in there
would be a good scrap, I reckon yarde would take it just IMO, judging off of both performances against beterbiev. Yarde looks more ready to go for the KO

I never understood the Callum Smith hype. He beat a one armed, passed his best George Groves, he beat a career middleweight and again pass his best, Hassan N'Dam N'Jikam. He lost to a European level/fringe level fighter in John Ryder. Also he gave a piss poor performance against Canelo. So to me, where did the hype in Callum knocking out Beterbiev come from.
Look at the two super series fights before the one armed Groves bout too and you will see he looked truly terrible.
All he has done since the Groves good fortune is get whupped by Ryder, Canelo and Beterbiev.

I think all the Smith brothers fighters were overrated.
The amount of people that gave Smith a shout against a monster punching light heavyweight in Beterbiev was astounding given the fact that little old Canelo battered Smith from pillar to post for 12 rounds. The fight went according to plan.
Hope Spencer got a new car for Xmas, no one should be that worried about their motor breaking down
The difference between Smith and Yarde was speed. Yarde was vey fast and that gave Beterbiev problems until Yarde eventually tired and slowed down mid fight and Beterbiev could catch him clean.
Smith does not have the same movement and speed of Yarde and relied on his length to keep him out of trouble, but the shorted Beterbiev was out jabbing smith from the start because he could time Smith easier than Yarde.
But in both cases Yarde and Smith got caught in the trap of 'macho' and tried to stand and trade with Beterbiev - which is what Beterbiev wants.
there's an old saying in boxing 'fight a boxer, box a fighter' - I think Bivol will be much smarter and not get into any macho brawl with Beterbiev.
God, they really must be poor judges of boxing if they thought Smith was going to beat Beterbiev.
Jeez, ONLY 'boxing casuals' thought that Smith would win, real boxing fans knew that he had no chance.

Callum has beaten no world class operators. These lot don't mention he beat a one shoulder George groves but when eubank beat a washed degale, which Simon brings up all the time
When are we going to address the problem of record protection? Half the reason fighters become inactive and start worrying about their purses so much is they risk being thrown on the scrap heap if they lose. Fighters need to fight
His best win was an old one armed george groves and he hadn't fought in 18 months. How are any of these so called professionals thought this fight would be close is beyond me. Ingle said it best paper world champions that arnt actually world level

My go to formula when picking a winner in world title fights is -"Has both guys passed the acid tests at the highest level". Beterbiev had and Callum hadn't referring to the Canelo loss and Ryder struggle. Until I get cast iron proof from a fighter they can pass the acid test I dont pick them over guys like Beterbiev.

The assumption that because Yarde did well, so therefore Smith should eclipse his performance is baffling to me. Taking into account how differing styles mesh or just that Smith's experience didn't ready him for such a test.

Nothing but respect for Callum and his brothers. 4 brothers all winning british titles, 2 world champs, 1 ring magazine champ and 2 world title challengers( Paul Smith Jnr was robbed in one of his challenges) phenomenal story will never happen again!

All four brothers were top notch boxers and can be proud of their achievements. I honestly think they were all just short of genuine world class though.

Eubank jnr should be targeting the 160/168 pound champions, not cash grabs in domestic match ups against smaller guys at the end of their career. I disagree with Simon that Natasha has heavier hands than Baumgardner.

Prossibly an unpopular take, but I look at the IBF title as the most credible, no nonsense “super” and “regular” champions, and the strongest enforcers of making mandatory fights happen, which is why it is usually the first belt given up by a guy with multiple belts.
You also need to work on pronouncing Zhilei Zhang guys…. It’s not ‘Zilie Zang’

they keep saying Callum is a world class operator and yes he’s had success at world level, but you have to take into consideration who he’s beaten at world level, his best win on paper is a George groves who had a shoulder injury going into that fight and was clearly passed his prime, other than that he struggled against a kick boxer in the boxing World Series, arguably lost to Ryder and went out with a whimper against canelo, I don’t see where these world class performances are on his resume?, people were falling in love with the fact Callum is a big lad who can punch, but he doesn’t fight like a big man, doesn’t use his height and reach and crouches down to the level of his opponent, he also shells up and sits on the ropes too often, what did they think was going to happen against Beterbiev who has a high output, heavy handed and a great finisher.
simon has banter that could so easily be took the wrong way by some people but spencer takes it really well and gives a little back, they both have as it seems a decent relationship. i like to listen to what they have to say, albeit only opinions. as i dont always agree with what they say, and actually think bivol will beat beiv. But good listen all the same.

I don't know why these two keep saying Yarde having success means Smith will, Yarde is an explosive, fluid, unconventional fighter, Smith is a fundamentally sound, upright, eastern European style fighter that Beterbiev has seen a million times, why is there a comparison, Yarde didn't even do that well anyway, he stunned Beterbiev twice, got battered for the other 99% of the fight

a world class HW will fight upto he is 40 as speed and movement is less relevant but still a factor but power is always there maybe upto when they are 50 they can bang... but a smaller weight fighter needs the speed agilty and stamina, the smaller weights need to really look at it carefully once they reach 35. if they are 35 + with losses and time out its time to get out or get hurt. i am 40 and i have bad knees, always tired and napping like a granny and emotional, i mean i get weak legs at heights compared to when i was in my early 20as i use to run up the outside of scaffolding, i can get teary watching a film when when i was in my 20s i was full of spunk and wanted to get pissed dance flirt and fight. fighting is a hard game, i think there has to be a time you get out on top before you get hurt.
