    The depth and intensity of Mahler's 3rd Symphony is beautifully captured in this performance. Klaus Mäkelä and the Oslo Philharmonic truly do justice to this masterpiece. It's a treat for the ears and soul.

    Wow. Great performance. That's what's so great about Mahler, you can let rip his forces at the right time to ear swelling effect. Great composer to see live..

    Great group of players. So many with animated faces, like the principal cellist. Just has to be the greatest performance ever of this piece of music. Just when you'd think that classical music is dying out. Video work? The best, didn't miss a soloist or group. 8 French horns? Fantastic. Nov. 1, 2023. St.joseph, MO, USA

    Thank you so much for uploading this! Klaus Mäkelä is by far my favorite conductor and in combination with the Oslo Philharmonic it's always incredibly good. Plus, Mahler is my favorite composer and his third symphony is one of my favorite works ever! I'm really hoping for more videos/recordings with Mäkelä here on yt :))

    While I do think this is a fantastic performance and ferocious interpretation, I do wish Klaus would give just a little more line and inner motion to the more intimate scenes. There is so much wave-like orchestration in this symphony and I only wish they were brought more so as to make the ferocious moments even more justified and dramatic, rather than sudden

      Once, a conductor lived with Mahler a whole life. That's what makes the Big Klaus (Tennstedt) so great, especially in the Third.

    Too overpowering. Pan is a playful, mischievous, swaggering figure, not a violent, stormy one.

    • @MarshallArtz007
      @MarshallArtz007 8 месяцев назад +4

      Pan is a far more complex character than playful and mischievous. He is also portrayed in mythology as violent, sexually indiscriminate, a great deceiver, and so much more.
      Besides, Mahler ultimately withdrew his programmatic description and let the symphony stand as absolute music.

    Another over rated young conductor promoted to high posts and undeserved acclaim. He should be honing his skills in the provences rather than exposing his weaknesses with the great orchestras.

      Many years ago, conductors learned their craft in local opera houses and orchestras. The greats like Toscanini, Walter, Szell, Reiner, von Karajan, to name just 5 did just that. Arguably the greatest Mahler conductor of all, Leonard Bernstein earned his shot at the NY Philharmonic.
      Things have changed, but not necessarily for the better.
