"Sometimes you just miss one day and so many messages pile up" That's called bad management. If they don't have your back during breaks, then that is just simply bad management, nothing more to say.
Marine took a one month+ break from streaming, which really hurt her income. Yet she couldn't really rest and 2 months later she is already back to the point where she needs another break. The frequencies at which the talents need medical care is increasing rapidly.

I've been on both side of things, not the talent-manager stuff but just the plain 'ol soul-draining salaryman stuff..I experienced being part of the 'grunts' and hated how managers just kept on pushing their people to do more work..when I had the chance to be the manager I always felt bad pushing the people under me to meet the company demands but I can't stop due to the pressure from the people above me, the stress made me quit my job a year later and traumatized me on work that comes with managing people.. I guess what I'm trying to say is that both sides have it real tough, Korone's Mane-chan probably also wanted to let Korone rest since her break is tied to her medical condition but they're also being pressured by the people they have to work with, especially when it comes to schedules, on projects that involve Korone..I hope they both get a break from all the pressure

Lol im one of those "corporate slaves" but i understand how hard the manager side of things is, i dont have to become one to understans the ammount of pressure they get from their higher ups. Imo dogeza is the ultimate submissive gesture. I feel it’s too demeaning to use in common parlance, but seeing it being used even uncommonly is still outrageous. Oh boy, that's practically the norm where I'm from. I think the only countries this doesn't apply to are western countries. Asian and middle eastern countries suffer from the same thing from what I'm hearing from some of my overseas friends and from my own experience working as well. It's even worse with the work from home setup since your boss can just call you to make you work asap if need be and overtime pay is dependent on luck if you get into a good company that actually cares to record your OT hours.
@@miragespl In the west here they generally deter management from authorizing overtime because it increases hourly wage by 50% higher and their budget simply doesn't plan for the additional expense. They "can" call me up and ask me to come into work. Which they even have a stronger (personal?) objection. I'm not sure why but it's exceedingly rare for me to personally get called in. But at my job management is expected to shuffle employees around as much as possible to prioritize specific tasks as there are a lot of people doing supportive work. All time is tracked through automated systems and clocking in and out.
A shame she feels like she even has to apologize. Establishing firm boundaries is legit necessary for your health with the work culture they have over there.
I can kinda relate to this, use to have my manager at work always call me when it was my day off. And too many times during my days off I’d be asked if I could come in to take over for somebody else who called in sick. Like the extra cash sounds nice if I come in but bruh my body ain’t feelin it.
Jesus christ this is so depressing to hear, also saying it was immature when it's only natural that you need rest at some point. Japan being the country it is with a literal word for death of overwork "karoshi" can sometimes be really frightening. Have 2 japanese friends who's dad ultimately died of overwork, they said they didn't even really know him because he could'nt really spent time at home.
It does suck when you're supposed to be on a break and you still have to think about work. I would be like tell me everything you need from me for the next weeks because I will not be available for anything.
I'm glad I work in a job where I can just turn off my phone when I take a day off without anyone getting upset. Well, my boss might get upset, but I won't get fired for it. Well, I didn't get fired for it *yet*
How badly your area/department needs you? For example, if you an experienced IT/Software developer person with YEARS of work in the area.... Odds are mininal they will fire you for turning the phone off when past work hours and everything is within schedule (unless shit hit the fan BADLY) and they don't need any extra work (or just don't wish to give you reasons to give the 2 week notice if they PISSED you off a little too much)

I don't think Korone should feel too bad. Of course the manager has things she needs to do, but Korone was on a break for a reason. She really needed the rest for the sake of her health, and it sounds like her manager was preventing that from happening, albeit unintentionally. If there was ever a time where I could forgive someone for snapping, I think that's it. Especially if that's the first time she's ever done it. And sometimes you end up _needing_ to yell or freak out, if trying to make your needs understood in normal ways isn't working. That's just the way the ball bounces sometimes.

People hating on the manager. 🤦♀ Guys that's just how jobs work. It's nothing like teacher telling students to do their homework. A manager is also an employee that has to fulfill their duties. You can't just report to your supervisor like "Uh I didn't want to disturb her about work because she was sick" and not expect to be fired. I worked at a travel agency and I get phone calls all-day when I'm on break or on holidays, because if they don't reach me, some innocent client might be stuck at an airport or be unable to receive their passports back. I'm sure it's the same with every business. Nobody wants to disturb you when you're sick or taking a break if it's not something genuinely important, maybe not important to you, but important to them.
Bro I literally quit my job over these exact circumstances, employers need to know when enough is enough. We're not just expendable items that can work forever for their benefit.

Korone got mad and blocked me on her channel too. I had just found her channel and I said I love her videos. Now I cannot post/join member/chat. Idk why she blocked me so I stopped watching her
I hope that the fans also learn from this that the message "take a break please _____" isnt as hmmm helpful and supportive as you think it is. The thought is nice sure but the reality is that the talents still need to do work even when on a break. Basically what I'm trying to say is that even on breaks the talents are working hard behind the scenes, and so are the managers. Everyone involved is working hard and we need to respect that they need as much space as they can get to themselves.
They don't "still need to do work", the company is making them work and it's fucked up. Korone was rightfully angry. A medical professional told Korone to rest and that she will need 3-4 years to fully heal. Just imagine you were on sick leave and your employer told you have to come to work because you had some prior engagements with a client. While keeping bothering you all the way through your leave by sending you messages. This would be straight up illegal in many countries. It's not the worried fans that need to change their ways. It's the company operating in such insane conditions. Making a sick person working is not "working hard".

There is a difference between not working at all and having to take things slowly. See my other comment. Yeah it's fuck up ! I don't know if you realize but Japan is a place that has so many deaths by overwork that a special term was made to describe it: karoshi. One of the reason is not taking into account the health of the employees. It's the same in the entertainement industry. So yeah, knowing that, I think companies should have a legal obligation to not make sick people work. That's the least of things. Contractual obligations involving Korone should be either be renegotiate or delayed. The world will not end for Cover if Korone can't record lines about Sonic or Kunio-kun...

Unless you're including other cases, which I don't know, then maybe you have a point. But just from this story from Korone and you conclude that cover having a fucked up work culture is not fair. At least you're fair enough to not blindly blame it all on the manager.
@@Verosa1410 You're putting words in my mouth here buddy. I never said Cover as a whole has a fucked up work culture. I said that this particular incident was fucked up. A talent that just took a break because of an illness was pushed to her limit by a manager messaging her about work while she was trying to rest. This is a bad thing and shouldn't be normalized. We don't need to extrapolate on the whole company's work culture to know that. And of course the manager is not to blame. She's an employee too. She's just doing her job as an intermediary between the talents and the company.
I really hate how much these girls, and boys in Holostars, are pushed. I get that they have a lot of obligations, but this type of work is only gonna make the health of everyone involved worse.
I do not think that Korone is in the wrong for telling her manager to stop. She is the host of her own channel, if she thinks it is important for herself to rest, then she should rest. I mean, her streams are usually very long, and I do not blame her at all.
Damn, Japanese work culture is so impressive. But seriously they should let each other rest when they need it. This is not the middle ages with famines and stuff.
It's totally ok for her to be mad. IT's her day off and sick leaves so anyone with a common sense should know not to bother a patient. It's an incredible dk move from the management side to trying to push her like that. It's kinda wrong for her to even try to be nice and apologize in this situation.
Just maybe, probably.... The one time at Hologra when Korone taking a nap and everyone trying to messing up with her while some of them instantly got fucked up was legit an easter egg about this story?
Holo better be careful to not inherit the standart japanese salaryman work ethic too much. Where they have to work way too much on things beside streaming. I feel there must be a better way to schedule things. When their bodies scream for a break, thats nothing to take lightly. Over time all these breaks, that werent really regenerative breaks will pile up and they maybe need to pause for months or worst case scenario just have to quit because they cant do it anymore. (Btw thats not even considering the mental fatigue...gotta say Nenes situation is quite concerning...those kind of problems never really go away, its quite the up and down even with professional help.)
I feel like that is fine to get angry at she shouldn’t need to apologize, I mean all they would have needed to do was make a list for what she needs to do when she gets back. Constantly messaging her about it seems excessive and pretty inconsiderate to how she was feeling at the time especially given her body wasn’t doing well. If anything it probably improved their relationship and made the manager better at their job.
To be fair things tend to happen pretty quickly in their line of work. I wouldn't be surprised if her manager was just trying to keep her in the loop/on schedule without realizing how it could be received. just as an example, it could be like "oh lets remind her of this meeting coming up" then a couple hours later they get confirmation of a sponsorship deal, then an invitation to a special event, oh i just got word we will have to reschedule that trip to the office. Next thing you know they've sent a bunch of messages in a few hours and spammed her. I've been in this position before and realized I've spammed a bunch of emails without realizing it. To be fair the manager could have been operating on autopilot and not been taking into consideration that Korone was supposed to be on break, but i'm sure there were things that would require Korone's input that had probably been in motion before Korone went on break. Either way i'm glad to hear that there is no hard feelings.
Honestly I feel the takeaway that everyone is missing is that even when talents are on "break" they're not actually getting full rest, and that's kind of a red flag. It's bad enough that we know many of these talents don't take breaks, but when even their breaks involve work, I'm getting a bit of a bad vibe from the company.
That's just what being an idol is, at least they can do most of their job at home so they can rest more than "real" idols but the entire industry is horrid
@@velvetbutterfly Not true actually. The more often you find youself working from home, the more you tie the idea of 'home' with the idea of 'work', and the time you spend there becomes less and less restful. This idea that working from home is somehow better than going to a workplace really needs to start being corrected before it becomes part of our culture. If you do work from home, try to do it either on a different computer to your personal one, and in a different room if possible. My friend couldn't do that, but having a 2nd account on his computer for 'work' and a different chair for working vs relaxing helped him out a lot, before he started doing that, he was finding it harder and harder to relax in his own private time.
@@velvetbutterfly yes and no. If the commute is during peak times, or excessively far, definitely not great, but 30min to and from work is good for your mental health. It gives your mind time to change from work mode to non-work mode. Like all things in life, everything in moderation. Too much work, travel, and even rest are bad for you. On that topic, if you work from home, I suggest taking a short walk around the local area, 10-20 minutes after you stop working before you start your home life/relaxation, both because the excersize is good for you, fresh air and sun are very important, but also because it helps your brain get ready to relax.
Uh yea no lmao? It's pretty disrespectful as a manager to know your employee is off work and or sick and demand they feel better and get back to work. Like that's pretty "abusive" at least by the u.s's standards of working rights.
This is just unprofessional from Hololive company side. All their revenue and income depends on the talents. If the talent is so overworked that she needs a medical help to recover it should be obvious that the brake they take to rest is sacred and should be not disturbed. If there are deals and contracts pending they should be postponed or cancelled outright, even if it would harm the finances. In the long run it's much worst to not get the talents the opportunity to rest. It would result in building fatigue and stress and making the breaks more frequent and longer to the point that the talent would not be able to work any more and quit. Then you have lost all the contracts and money. The real problem with japanese companies is their "honour". I think that it is for that reason that they disregard the health of employees and think that the company good name is the most important. The same can be said for the employees themselves: they value company more than their own health. That is in the blood of japanese people. They are thought from young age to be perfect students/workers. It's great for the country but not so much for the people themselves. I live in Europe and when I have a break in my work that is my sacred time and I can be contacted only in emergencies. If employer contacts me with trivial matter when I'm on a break I don't hesitate to "scold" them about it. I, myself, am a manager of sorts and when an employee is on a break, especially because of their health, I try to never contact them. Hope that Hololive will change their ways because soon their members will start to "graduate", and that will be a shame for all of us: talents, company and viewers.

It's even worse with the work from home setup since your boss can just call you to make you work asap if need be and overtime pay is dependent on luck if you get into a good company that actually cares to record your OT hours.
Welcome to japanese work culture. Where 9-9 is expected.
@@miragespl In the west here they generally deter management from authorizing overtime because it increases hourly wage by 50% higher and their budget simply doesn't plan for the additional expense. It's weird to think that break you don't actually get off work. A few days of actual time off is way better than a week of part time work.
Korone and Miko have such great energy together I love it
Getting rest and work free time is super important. Employers who keep pestering people on their time off with work related stuff really need to stop. That's how you burn out your staff.

Guys that's just how jobs work.

Holo is an idol company first and foremost, it has one of the worst overwork mentalities by default
Korone: "LET ME REST!"
**Flashback to many many long very long endurance streams**
Manager: "THIS IS NOT A NEGOTIATION!"

On that topic, if you work from home, I suggest taking a short walk around the local area, 10-20 minutes after you stop working before you start your home life/relaxation, both because the excersize is good for you, fresh air and sun are very important, but also because it helps your brain get ready to relax.
I think you may have taught your manager a valuable lesson in boundaries.
Uh yea no lmao? It's pretty disrespectful as a manager to know your employee is off work and or sick and demand they feel better and get back to work.
Like that's pretty "abusive" at least by the u.s's standards of working rights.
Prima Donna doggo.
Lol i feel bad because she was probably doing her job and from what I understand she is new?
