I swear this game did some sort of witchcraft, because the DLC has the same first time wonder as the base game, and you get to feel all of those "first time playing" emotions all over again.
Having played the base game 3x over and forcing myself to reexplore and discover things I'd missed or forgotten, the DLC really reminded me that I'm an absolute moron at puzzle solving and made me so frustrated and I loved every single moment of it.
I watch DLC supercuts purely to see the moment when they first drop in the raft, and look up at the interior of the Stranger.

I just noticed... the burnt building in the simulation is THE PRISONER'S VIRTUAL HOUSE
HE PAINTED THAT PAINTING OF THE EYE BRINGING A NEW UNIVERSE
THEY WERE SO MAD AT HIM THEY BURNED DOWN HIS *E-HOUSE*
Well knowing them they dont want any information about what he did getting to any others of their species, the prisoner couldve written something down or hidden a reel in his virtual walls
"THEY BURNED DOWN HIS E-HOUSE" will live in my brain for a while thanks
@ramon1500 That image you find in their burned down house is actually the final image in the sequence the Owlks see when the finally reach the Eye. If you watch that slide reel at 18:55 you see the same skull, and the start of a plant growing through the eye hole. If the Owlks had finished watching the vision before freaking out, they would have saw that the Eye leads to a fresh start, and new life. From death, rebirth. Only the Prisoner bothered to keep watching. Only the Prisoner saw the truth. And painted that truth. But their fear blinded them all.
@@The_Game_Guru oooo
now that's some neat lore
@@ramon1500considering how crappy the sim is, fire probably doesn't work; they remodeled it burnt.
Btw that house is positioned in the same spot relative to the tower in both the dream and real world
If only the sun wasn’t going to explode, you could tell everyone on Timber Hearth about this, inherit the technology, and have movie nights
The Hearthians have film technology. You can see them use film projectors in the home village. They sure as hell have movie nights there.
Second time I've seen "do Hearthians have TV channels?" Discourse
screw the chat member who said "he was tired" when crow noticed where the footprints led, you made me sob even harder than i already do every time at the ending
It's actually kinda perfect that he found the dreamworld lantern-bubble "glitch" first. That secret is the best for completely undercutting the scariness of the dreamworld, which he was having massive problems with.
I’m pretty sure the “pathing” favors the gorge being the first puzzle you solve completely ( I put that in quotes because it’s an open-world game, but the devs have always done a really good job of directing the player to intended points)
@@c4sualcycl0ps48 Either that or you figure out about the Owlks disappearing from the rave house when you hear them screaming and put those clues together, which gives you the out of bounds glitch and is the first clue you have that the glitches are required to bypass the codes, since it's the one that drops you right behind the second code. Either way it ends up working out along with the alarm bell pretty much always being the final one to be figured out (which works since it requires the most "final" glitch).
@@c4sualcycl0ps48 Nah. The reels show a timeline of events in 4 stages, so clearly you do them in order as the nature of the (time) loop intended.
I think I found all the basic reels first, then realized how to enter the dream world from the exploded place. Then I explored the dream worlds until I found the hint about the hidden reels. Then I gathered all the hidden reels. Then I tackled area 1, then area 2, then area 3. Then I put together all 3 bugs to tackle area 4. Doing it this way also made the ship logs update in a very aesthetically pleasing manner.
It's worth noting that the place where you discover the locations of the hidden reels is already in the canyon. It's reasonable to think that players might go for that one first, since it's the closest when they get the information they need to access it.
46:45 Note: All reduced frights does is make the stranger's AI slightly worse. It does not reduce the level of fright in any way.
It also removes the unsettling TREMBLE noise when a stranger is close to you
So let's be more specific: Reduced Frights slows down the enemies, makes them quieter, and you can now easily outrun them.
@@DoctorTex It also removes a lot of those extraneous sounds that he, correctly, says were just added to increase the horror ambience and don't actually mean anything.
oh. That's dumb. it affects the gameplay
@@laupokeyeah but some could argue that the gameplay difficulty is not there to test your ability but rather to have you at the edge of your seat, if you need to lower the scaryness of the game is because you are easily fightened and are already at the edge of your seat without an enemie that can "kill" you so its okay
What I love is that the Nomai and Strangers are so very distinct in their communication.
Nomai loves the written word while the Strangers focus on visuals.
yeah, at the base game you have lots of texts to read, already in the dlc you need to watch the movies, with almost no text to read, but both mechanics works sooo good
Man, you just made me realize that each race is very distinct in how they communicate. The Hearthians are very sound-based, shown in their penchant for broadcasting instruments, their prominent ears, the fact they’re the only ones who speak outside of the Eye, and how they seem to prefer audio logs for taking notes.

I'm so glad he never learns to fly a spaceship. Slowing down is for cowards.
I never slow down-I speed up in the opposite direction!
learning to fly the spaceship is learning how hard you can hit things with it and still walk away. If you plot "speed of impact" vs "experience in Outer Wilds" you get an inverted bell curve.

55:03 the comedic timing of this cut lmao
The beginning of this DLC is a masterclass of design. The initial curiosity of the radio station and satellite, to the sudden, ominous, confusing discovery of the Stranger which is so alien and impossible to comprehend when you first see it, and then that shock and awe of seeing the inside for the first time. Every time I watch a playthrough I'm impressed by it all over again.
It's a horror-fakeout-horror

So proud of him ::)
Him going from getting jumpscared twice in a row at that point in the video to the hard cut of him sitting in that position for the next attempt had me dyin'!
Watching it in 0.25 speed is HILARIOUS
I just got there and my god I was laughing so hard I was hyperventilating.
I love the pervasive sense of Dread this DLC gives, even before it actually tries to kill you
Crow is actually like, genuinely fucking smart
It's honestly amazing how he's simultaneously smart enough to figure out half the game and small brain enough to conclude turning off his lights to not anger the anglerfish
he can make some big brain conclusions, but other times i wonder if theres anything going on between those eyes.
@@VollkinSea Well, he was just so lost in thoughts about everything he had seen that some of the simpler things went completely over his head. Absolutely hilarious in the moment, but perfectly understandable in retrospect

Lmaooo bro same. Cracked me up too, cuz I even knew it was coming but I wasn't ready for it being that sudden 😂
You must admit that point crows ability to piece together the solutions by context is very impressive. Even with the guidance the game gives you he has shown quite the affinity for these types of puzzles in Outer Wilds plus DLC
2:03:14 I didn’t know you could see the planet from there!
Also fun fact: there is a way to glitch the ringed planet so that it spawns while you gather solanums mask. It’s very funny looking bc you get really close to it.

honestly the pointcrow play through of outer wilds was one of my favorites. first one i'd seen where it felt like someone actually saw the game the same way i did and it's hilarious to watch him freak out at the darkness after spending so much time in space getting deaded by everything.
Thank you for editing and putting this together. I scarce have the free time to watch vods, much less the streams themselves, so having it all condensed like this is very very helpful, thank you.
1:55:17 Did he turn off the musical sting that's supposed to play when the Prisoner steps out by pausing? If so, that sucks. I think the pauses were used to great effect for the rest of this video, for him to think through stuff. But that one moment it kinda ruined.
Love to see someone else awe at how beautiful the Ring World looks

great edit man, always nice to go down the memory lane and relive this game through someone else's first playthrough
I was today years old when I realized there’s a confinement chamber in the real world next to the fire because they waited for the prisoner to die in there before confining his spirit in the dream work for eternity
Less grim take: They waited for him to fall asleep. Maybe even sedated him before closing the casket, so they didn't have to wait too long.
I think they just left em in there with the option to stay awake in a coffin or live in a slightly comfier prison
I'm so glad to see people out here to compile these things. I'm so happy to see so many people experience and explore this game. Thanks for finding these streams/vods and cutting them up. Always happy to see more and wish to. Hope there's more to come from others playing this glorious game

loved this one as well.
Oh so sad. The prisoner made the ultimate sacrifice. He did what he thought was right, but he was imprisoned for it. And through his sacrifice, the universe could start again
This is the one give I'd give anything to wipe my memory of so I could do it all again and experience this game for the first time. So incredible to explore this game.

46:30 *pterodactyl screeching*
Something funny that happened to me is that I only knew how to get to the simulation by dying, so the alarm thing never did anything to me and got me confused before I found the secret. (For some reason I never tried to doze off at the campfire)
Love how no one in the chat told him that he can conceal the fire in front of owlks.
I am here again crying
When I first played EotE, I got freaked out and had to play "A CYBER'S WORLD" from deltarune.
Some people are afraid of the end and the unknown. This dlc was about that

43:00 I had the same exact thought hahaha, I tried variants of this for a while before realizing I just needed to sleep at the fire
1:58:10 wait this version of the animation is different! Strange! People complained that the Nomai ship is portrayed entering a white hole and exiting a black hole, which is inconsistent with how it normally works. This version shows the black hole then the white hole, which is consistent. I gotta figure out why it's different.

I'll never understand why so many people are so terrified of the Owlks before the game gives you a reason to be. They're adorable!
the dread of knowing theres something there
The base game is scary enough and there's no warning, so the warning at the beginning of the DLC has a much greater impact
They're not adorable lol, their paintings are terrifying

Wao the music when the prisoner raises his hand didn't play... Why
I know I’m late and I might be smooth braining here, but how did he destroy the fabric of space while getting a normal super nova ending?
By jumping into the black hole at the Ash Twin project - it creates a duplicate of you, and if you don't jump into the black hole again, it destroys the fabric of spacetime (the same if you close the black hole before your scout if it already left the white hole).
In his base game playthrough he spawned a clone and then beat the game w/o breaking spacetime. So when he resumed his saved game for the DLC it was the loop with the clone.
It's a shame you skipped over the part where he first finds out the really big secret of the DLC. You know, the main twist. The thiiiing.
Which secret is that?
@@tbotalpha8133 That the "dreamworld" is a computer simulation. The clips of him discovering the glitches and such are there but there's nothing of him finding out the simulation part.
@@Vulgarth1 It includes all the clips of him finding the intact slide-reels, though? The first one he finds is the "drop your lantern" secret, which is the most blatant reveal that the dream-world is actually VR.
@@Vulgarth1I really don't see that as a twist. I'm so surprised so many people don't realise that they built a simulation right from the start
@@alexandrucalitescu5822 It's the whole spirit fire and druidic vibes aspect. You somehow forget all the technologically advanced hints like the metal space ships, wi-fi antlers, cloaking RGB crystals, etc.. The fire is mystical and we disassociate it with VR tech. Remaining in a dream world after death feels more natural if it's a spiritual world rather than a VR world.
It's the perfect amount of misdirection. You're so engaged in figuring out the missing parts of the story that you don't stop to reconsider the small things that don't lead to new ship log entries.
Since the scout reappears in the new universe does that mean anything that goes up the eye will also appear in the new universe?
No, cause you don't. It's an object that was sent before you collapsed the possibilities
my headcanon was always as soon as the scout was fired out it became quantum as it had no way to observe, so when it leaves the eye it is sent far into the future of all possibilities as it doesnt show any wear in the new universe billions of years later

Might be me, but this playthrough seemed very fake to me ; at least I think he was aware of the main plot points and understood all the reels too precisely on his first watch everytime. But it might not be such a bad thing, makes for better content probably.
Thanks for the edit though :)
You can tell this is not faked from watching the full length vods. After all, he did play through the base game so understanding that helps with understanding the DLC. This supercut shows the important and funny moments but he does ruminate on things inbetween the cuts where he's just walking and talking with chat.
He pretty much only went in with the knowledge that the DLC had some horror elements and you can tell he was already dreading it before it even got to the horror sections. When he found the secret entrance and noticed there was one Owl person missing, he hyper-fixated on that detail and believed that there was still a living Owl creature stalking him.
There are also plenty of things he never got around to actually understanding. He never understood that the sun sails were moving the Stranger out of range of the supernova or that it was the cause of the dam's sudden structural collapse until told by chat at the end. In fact, he thought the "living owl person that was stalking him" was sabotaging the dam.
There were many times where I was pulling my hair cause he took multiple minutes (and on one certain puzzle, 2 HOURS!) to figure out certain parts or made some incorrect assumptions that ended up throwing him off for a while.
i got the meaning of all the reels on the first watch. this doesnt seem fake to me at all, i'm kinda baffled by that accusation lol
@@littlesnowflakepunk855 Most people making accusation of fake first playthroughs on youtube never seem to realize how much of a self own they're posting.
Nah bro ur just dum
@@marcosperezomg This cut also left out some funny moments, like when Pointcrow smacked into the Deep Space Satellite at full speed and destroyed his ship, near the start of the DLC before he found the Stranger.
A shame, but sacrifices must be made I suppose.
your main playthrough was pretty good, you did progress and went through the steps. THIS IS NOT A SCARY GAME.
