Hercules has the DJControl Mix (startlight may have been an earlier iteration). Watched DJ SkratchBastid use a DJControl Mix last month during a pop-up vacation stream. Was crazy b/c he was mixing and skratchin' while sitting in a lounge chair.
One of the most unique small controllers is Korg Kaoss DJ. Backlit knobs and touch pad with a lot of effects. Touch decks is not ideal but manageable. I've used it powered by power-banks and iPad and it works good. There's mappings for it but the controller is only found used these days.
Hi Thanks for the reviews -Brilliant! I purchased the Hercules DJControl Starlight and I followed your instruction to use laptop audio but it silences and there is no output. Any Ideas please?
Thanks for another helpful video! I'm wondering what would be a good pair of portable speakers to connect to the reloop ready? Lots of speakers don't seem to have RCA inputs. Cheers!
Just buy a 2x RCA to 1/8" stereo minjack lead, then you can use any speakers with an 1/8" minijack input. However, the problem is that most Bluetooth speakers, even with an Aux input, have a bit of a delay. So on a budget, best thing is to go to a computer store and buy a set of gaming speakers.
I just picked up the Reloop Ready specifically for throwing in a backpack along with my laptop, so I don't have to check an entire flight case for my main controller!
Hi Phil, I hope you’re feeling better! I’ve been using Pioneer DDJ-SX for over 10 years now, with Serato DJ Pro. I decided to buy the Hercules Starlight, so I could use it in the kitchen for practice, but for some reason it’s not recognizing that I have Serato DJ Pro. Instead, it’s giving me their DJ Pro trial, and the controller itself is acting a little wonky & inconsistent , and it’s asking me for a license, which honestly, I don’t know where to look for that. If I decide to keep it or buy another controller, do I have to buy DJ Pro AGAIN for a different controller? Thank you in advance! Btw, whenever you have vocal problems, a cough or cold, get some Braggs Apple Cider vinegar (has to have the sediment so make sure you shake the bottle), use 2 Tablespoons, then 2 HEAPING Tablespoons of honey, as much cinnamon as you like, some ginger, boil some water, pour it into a mug with those ingredients, drink up! That stuff really kills your cold, and will help your voice. Also good for your stomach. Do it 3 times a day! Best to you! - DJ Ms. Denny
Hi Dee, thanks for the remedy - sounds lovely, will give it a go! Unless you actually BOUGHT Serato at some point, I am guessing you won't be able to use the full Serato with your Starlight, because your copy of Serato is tied to your SX. Worth checking with Serato support, but I think that's probably what's happening.
One of my VRChat friends recently got into DJing, but she's still doing it with just straight up mouse and keyboard, and is a bit tight on cash atm. Was pointing her in the direction of the DJ2GO2/Starlight as her first controller a good idea? Or should she wait to save up her money? I kinda had the idea of "if she knows what she's doing, having a least some proper hardware should help her a lot".
As a first controller, the DJ2GO2/Starlight are actually NOT that great, since their interfaces differ a lot from slightly bigger controllers. I think the Reloop Buddy would be the better solution, or if she has the space for it: something like a Numark Mixtrack Pro/Platinum FX!
Poor Phil has had a cold or is suffering with or from...oh dear... get well please soon Phil....!!!! i feel for you and your poor voice sounds bunged up

I have the Starlight, it's awesome, just I wish it could work with DJuced as well, i prefer that to Serato lite.
Mix is a different product, but also an intriguing one!

Yes, was a great unit, but not been available for many years now.
probably good in windy desert conditions. like burning man or something. haboobs. since theres not all the fader openings and knobs and jogs ect.
Reloop Mixtour, Arguably the best one.

I am missing the Reloop Mixtour and the JB Systems Kontrol-1 , and the Traktor Z1
Great I need/want a new travel/backup controller.

@@digitaldjtips Thanks so much!
I bought the MiniRig 3 + 2 subs Sounds big
I love my DDJ-SR2 for DJing abroad
Ain't controllers great? 😀

Perfect!
Reloop Ready still the goat.

Thanks a lot. You really are fantastic at explaining things 👍 I just wish I was 20years younger. 😂
Never to old to enjoy mixing your favourite music my friend or sharing it with others
@@bigdaz7272 Thanks for that. I have been playing with serato on my laptop and trying to learn to mix from there, without a controller
Don't we all Stewart! 🤣
@@stewarttaylor5522 Get a controller my Friend they are so cheap its a crime not to because it makes mixing at least 10x more enjoyable :)
I want the Reloop Ready.
Can your iPad with USB-C power a Reloop Buddy or Reloop Ready controller?
It can power a Buddy (I'm pretty sure), but obviously best to use an adaptor to get power to it if you can.
Which of these would work with Rekordbox?
Smallest available Rekordbox controller is DDJ-200
You can carry a mixer on the cabin of an airplane too…. With K2 in your back pack.
Indeed you can
Why don't these have a booth out? How can i use monitor speakers without one?
They're not designed for pro use. You could add an external mixer if you want to split the master output.

We'd go for something bigger.

Buddy or Ready - which is best for a beginner of the two?
@@stevenguillory9716 Definitely the Buddy!!
Denon Prime GO in my eyes is in the same category
It's much bigger than these, and not a controller (it's a standalone system)
Do you have 2024 Edition?
No, however I don't think there are any new ones
Vestax VCI-400, in my opinion is still the best 4-channel controller in a small package.
But ancient now! (And not very small.)
Buddy or Ready?
Serato or djay Pro AI? iPad or laptop? those answers will make that decision for you.
Poor Phil has had a cold or is suffering with or from...oh dear... get well please soon Phil....!!!! i feel for you and your poor voice sounds bunged up
Oh yeah definitely not feeling A!, but sure I will be fine soon 🤞
It's all just too convoluted and fiddly for a beginner to controllers (haven't DJed since vinyl) :(
So how do you know? 😀
Why would anyone have a countdown into a long video
Because it was a live show, and countdowns on live shows give people the time to arrive and not miss the beginning.
rELOOP mIXTOUIR IS AMAZING. JS.
