Mammootty and Mohanlal did everything in their prime (grounded movies) and then moved to mass cinema. The golden age with director actor just creating magic on screen like you guys said happened in 80’s and early 90’s.
There is a culture of promoting quality cinema in Kerala. I don’t know how it started but I’ve been to International Film Festival of Kerala in Trivandrum. There were so many people there to watch all the movies from many different languages and countries most with unknown directors and actors (at least for me). And these were not just writers and movie artists - these are just common folks and students. I was very surprised, I have not seen this kind of enthusiasm for film festivals anywhere else in India or outside.
Mammootty has been doing offbeat movies since the start of career. He won 3 National awards for best actor for 5 different films. And two of those films were directed by Adoor gopalakrishnan. The same goes for Mohanlal who has done films with Aravindan and Shaji n karun who were critically praised at Cannes film festival. What malayalam cinema is today is just the second coming of what malayalam cinema was in the 80s and 90s but with more money, tech and a wider audience. Everyone raves about the versatility of todays malayalam actors especially the people from the north but trust me this isn't even close.
Im from kerala and seriously watching movies for more than a decade. I would like to point out some of the mistakes you guys pointed out. 1) In his early stage of career, Mammony had acted variouty films where you never even recognise him ( ex: pothanmada, boothakanadi, mrugya , so on.) My favourite Mammony film is videyan ( he potrayed a negative shade character). From my knowledge, the kerala film industry was in its prime in the late 80s and 90s. After 2000, it's lost the potential, and it's good to see that going back to its heavenly state. The movies I watched most are ' spadikam' and Manichitharathazu ( laterally remaked into bool boolaya) . Both these movies are from the 90s. If you don't mind, I have suggestion for you guys, please include native mallus in this type of discussion. Thanks
The right example would be ASIF ALI. Asif started the next gen and started the stardom amongs the youth even before dq, nivin, fahad ( his 2nd debut), Tovino etc. If we checked his graph could see upwards downwards always fluctuating because of his experimental approach towards the film. No youth actor had more guest roles and less important roles in a mult starer film than him. He always choose film as a complete package.
Our audience is the reason y our actors are like this....We only support good actors and good movies....we dont care what type of role they are playing like we grew up watchin mammootty, mohanlal and other actors doing negative roles as well as positive roles....when fahad did his debut and faced a lot of criticism bcos the film and his acting was not good enough...but now when he did good films and showed us how good he can be, look how he's considered as one of the faces malayalam is known for.
Dq had done such a role in parava or kammatipadam.he also doesn't care how he looks.he is also a fab actor who doesn't mind experimenting.watever he does, becomes big and famous cos he has tat Aura.
Mammootty, along with Mohanlal, has indeed portrayed a wide range of characters throughout their careers. They have both showcased their versatility and talent by taking on diverse roles that span various genres and themes. (Mass , offbeat , class etc.) As a Malayali myself, it deeply pains the sentiments of Malayalam movie lovers when comments are made about Mammootty's career during its early stages.
Please note that mammootty is not doing these kind of roles in his second half of his career. He has been doing such tremendous jobs better than nanpakal ever since he commenced acting in Malayalam Cinema..
Fahad and Tovino are the two bankable stars who give more importance to the artistic value than the commercial aspect of a film. A movie like Joji or Kala isn't a typical role for a star.
Almost every actor in malayalam do characters that are not a typical star role.....like Asif(uyare), Prithv (Memories) Dileep(Kunjikkoonan),Nivin(Moothon),Dulquer(Chup) and there is no need to mention Mammookka,Lalettan,Suresh Gopi, etc
Its Prithviraj who has given more importance to the artistic value of a film, he has many experiment and artistic movies than any other youth actor in mollywood ! Many like celluloid, memories, mumbai police, Ak, ennu ninte moideen, ayalum njanum thammil and many more...
No mammooty did movies like puzhu and npnm in every decade of his career .so did mohan lal ..so did every actor in mal starting from blsck and white era.
You are having a misconception that Malayalam industry has just started to make good movie in recent past. It was always making... We Malayalies are still fascinated about the 90s movies. That was the golden era for Malayalam... Trust me
Not taking away the ability of the actors , I think it depends a lot on the director and kind of film they are working . For ex : Imagine Fafa acting in an over the top masala film like Veera Simha Reddy , I believe acting will be enhanced in Plot driven films .
Being a mallu this is one reason why people go apeshit on mallus on social media and brand us as braggers when we speak the truth about malayalam cinema and actors, honestly we are helpless but take all the hatred
This is not class. This is because of lack of budgets which DQ, Mohanlal and Mammooty have admitted and felt bad about time and again. DQ has had nose surgeries done..it's not natural 😂. Anyway Kerala is Vijay's fort..Malayalam actors can't do what a Vijay or a Surya or a Rajini does. But Vijay, Surya and Rajini can perform those roles..
@@riyanroshan6107 brilliant joke 😂the actors u mentioned are can't be compared to mammooka and lalettan they can't even stand with them 😅grow up kid 😂

I'm assuming script is priority so actors have to adapt according to script and then develop characters. If there's no story then one can see how bad a movie is with mohanlal or mammooty doing the hero, dance stuff which is absolutely horrible. Its obvious and perfectly ok for actor to have 2 left feet because dancing, trying to be larger than life is not realistic.
Who said we don't like pushing malayalam cinema broader... We do need it... We also need bigger production movies like bahubali or RRR.... MALAYALAM film need to get more attention in theatre not on ott
All in good time my friend. They just need to keep going and it ll all be worth it sooner or later. Malayalam cinema deserves world recognition not just pan India going by the quality in the content.
@@AllThingsCinemaVodcast actually Malayalam industry doesn't know how to do business. The biggest example is drishyam. The original content was made by the malayalam industry but got all the money and recognition for the hindi remake. When a non-indian searches for drishyam he will first arrive at its hindi version only. With only proper research he can get to know malayalam drishyam. That is a weak point of the malayalam industry. They only know to make good cinema, don't know how to give proper reach or make business out of it. They are not ambitious. The want malayalam films to limit to kerala only. But now it's changing with dq and prithvi. We desperately need this. Malayalam movies are remade to all other industry only because malayalam films don't have reach no one would have seen it. So remake can make success...
