My love story with Malayalam cinema is kind of interesting ❤
I am a North Indian and a die hard Priyadarshan fan when he was active in Bollywood after he left Bollywood so I missed him but loved his Hindi films. Later when in 2021 he came back to Bollywood so I was about to enter college life, I applied in Symbiosis Pune, so in the interviews I was asked about my Interest which was 'Filmmaking' and Inspiration who was 'Priyadarshan' so the Symbiosis staff asked me that Do I watch Malayalam films? but I had no knowledge of it, though I left Symbiosis as I did not get admission in Mass Comm but always had a wish to see Malayalam films. During the same time phase many Malayalam films were promoted like Home or Joji and 'Home' was my first Mollywood film followed by Uyare and Minnal Murali(did not understand it much), later in 2022 I fell in love with Mollywood more with films like Hridayam, Bangalore Days, Drishyam, Oppam and became and addict to it. I later even watched the cult classics of Priyadarshan and that lead to me discover another legend Sathyan Anthikad.
I was born in 2003 but the 80s and 90s is my most favorite era of Mollywood after post 2010 era and now 2024. I am just addicted with Malayalam music and even tried cooking Malayali food and started understanding the language though unable to speak, read or write due to which some of my cousins say that I should live in Kerala and get married to a Malayali. I wish that I can work in Mollywood also because as an aspiring filmmaker, I started loving Malayalam cinema more than any language and it has an influence on my writing and vision of filmmaking.
    Hope I visit Kerala soon.🌴🌴❤❤

The key success factor for Malayalam movies hinges on audience acceptance. Regardless of the star power or personal favorites, if a film fails to captivate the audience, it faces brutal criticism. Hence, actors and directors must constantly adapt and innovate to ensure continuous entertainment and avoid falling behind in the competitive industry.

4.Malakotta valiban a movie which is a different attempt but didn't satisfy mass audience and became all time disaster due to it's heavy budget ariund 70cr.this movie is also a b example for how you shouldn't promote a film theu promoted a class film as a mass film and it resulted having so much hate from the audience

  • @asgarbalu

One another basic difference is how a movie is conceived. In malayalam, the script is of utmost importance and the actors and producers are decided based on it. There are hundreds of screenwriters who searches for an actor or producer to make their script in to a film.
But in the case of industries like bollywood, first comes a studio or a producer with the date of an actor. The script is then written in whatever time available before the schedule starts.
The love and respect for good script make any industry changes its course from making these actor-centric shell movies.
Actors in any industry become good only by working hard and hearing stories and scripts from different people while choosing the right and apt one that best suites him and he is confident of pulling off. This is now what lacks in bollywood. The luxury of choice is only affordable to the nepo kids. This will cease nurture of new talent and the industry will stall for years until the next wave of generation.

After watching the re-release of Manichithrathazhu, I felt that this film did not get the international acclaim it deserved..See this film discuss various subjects such as loneliness, superstitions, complexities of the human mind,Questionable Reality,Paranormal Undertones, Psychology, friendship, most of which other remakes failed to convey. Truly a gem

Tamil movies used to be like this, now it's mostly massy. In theatres i've seen movies like Aambuli, Kadhalil Vizhunthen, Kanchana, Maattrraan, and Ayan, after which I became a Suriya fan even though I don't speak the language 😂
And I feel in love with their language, music and culture

Bro some data u spoke abt is not exactly correct as bramayugam collected 60+ cr and 2018 collected 175+cr. And while mentioning remake, you only spoke abt the new drishyam. The biggest remake of malayalam movie was Manichitrathazhu (bhool bulaiya in hindi ) which is said to be remade or made into sequel in more than 60 languages worldwide and almost all hindi movies directed by priyafharsham were a remake of malayalam movie be it hulchul, khatta meetha, Hera pheri etc.

Its not that we get bored of over the top movies..but rather we always analyse and think about what a movie could gift us as an experience instead of falling head off heals for an actor! Thus there is always dualities...let it be mohanlal sirs - Lucifr or Dhrishyam or mammooty sirs- Bheeshma Parvam or Kathal!

I wonder if a movie like churuli was going to be dubbed in other languages, how will they dub it😂😂, many gaali words in that movie which we use in our day to day life its shown as raw as that in the movie. Maturity hits you hard when you realise the actors yelling gaali or badwords was the core of this story in churuli. The director needs balls of steel to present these type of movie for indian audience

i think your research is a bit underwhelming because mammooty and mohanlal along with their masala films did "grounded" movies throughout their career. malayalam films during the 80s and 90s were truly the golden period where literature and cinema met and made classics that belong to mass and also film elites. during the late 2000 and early 2010 is when the industry got a but lost but it quickly bounced back and gave us many of the to new gen filmmakers and actors we see today in ott.
i think Malayalam classics were always popular among the cinema buff outside kerala but with ott and lockdown the exposure got widened.
But the most important aspect of this industry is how the audience will always back a good film.
