There are many benefits to watching this vlog. Here you can find instruction, information, entertainment, reflections and much more. But what I find most appealing is that every time I watch ol' North Star I get an uplifted feeling, a heavy dose of inspiration, and a renewed awareness that there's still good in this world and....and then I realize I've been smiling.
You know, North Star, what's so inspiringly impressive about you is that rugged and dogged determination of yours that takes all the blows the trail can throw at you, and yet you just keep pushing north. What a priceless lesson of persistent perseverance for your third graders that shows your success requires sacrifice and that your victories live beside your struggles. It's a realistic and beautiful picture for them that their teacher, though bruised, bloodied, battered, wet and worn, took it all in stride and got up each morning and took one more step.... just one more step.
"There is a sacredness in tears. They are not a mark of weakness, but of power. They speak more eloquently than ten thousand tongues. They are the messengers of overwhelming grief, of deep contrition and of unspeakable love."(Washington Irving). 2,000 miles - you are truly a trooper of the first order and have earned your wings. May they carry you through to Katahdin's summit. Be well, stay safe. 🥾
@jeannenimmo5... So true. Tears are essential. Sometimes it's through tears that we see things about ourselves and others that we might otherwise miss.
So, what's so special about this channel? Hey North Star... Look at that subscription count. You now have 5,800 Audreyites who have signed up to follow you. But there's something far more meaningful and revealing than just those numbers alone--something that stands out as different, in a good way, something that arrests your attention and leaves you feeling good on the inside. What is it? INSPIRATION. Look at how many times in this entire vlog that you have been told you're an inspiration. My soul, if I had a dollar for every time that word "inspiration" has been used to describe you, I could buy a wheelbarrow load of new gear. Actually, a hallmark of your channel is the way you have become such an inspiration and beloved by so many. But why is this? What's so special about you that leads to the countless times you've been called an "inspiration? YOUR CHARACTER. It's the missing element in far too many people today, far too many. The world is hungry to find someone who evidences an exemplary character. That's what we see in you. We find in you an old-fashioned, rock-ribbed character, grounded in faith in God and totally dependent upon Him for everything. We see your honesty and genuineness, transparency and openness that never hides behind phoniness and pretense, that never manufactures drama to bait for attention. We see someone who takes the blows but keeps on going--someone who lives by principles and walks in humility.
That's it, and that's you, North Star. That's what's so special about this channel...your character, your character that inspires us all. And perhaps what's most gratifying is that as we watch the unfolding of your character, we see that it is clothed in humility. I like what Peter said about humility. He said, "Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time." Looks to me like you've taken care of the "humbling" part and now God's taking care of the "exalting" part. And that is a pure joy to watch!
Audrey (North Star), I pick a few people each year (maybe 5 or so) to follow their thru hike, and rarely post on anyone's. I usually just cheer from the sidelines and dream of my own thru hike (one day, Lord permitting). You have been, by far, one of my favorites this year. I am touched by your humble humanity, your ability to express with honesty and transparency all of the many challenges and victories along the way. I have been so blessed enjoying watching you inspire your students, your family and friends, and all of us cheering you on from the sidelines. You have a great heart Audrey, and even though who you are is already wonderful, I have enjoyed watching you transform from the inside out into the future Audrey who shares her strength, compassion, and life skills with everyone she meets to the benefit of the beholders. Thank you, sincerely, for sharing your journey of life these past few months with those of us watching your star shine so bright. Blessings...
@tracysymoens-qs6eu... You should comment more often for in this post, beautifully and humbly expressed, you have just captured what is the heart and soul of North Star and why she inspires us all. Well said!
Third graders can be quite wily and resourceful. They'll soon learn that when they come to a hard part of their class they'd like to skip, all they have to do is ask Ms. Gibson some questions about her thru hike. That will buy them some time for sure, at least until the teacher catches on to their shenanigans, which, unfortunately for those enterprising young scholars, will be rather soon.
The best part is how authentic your videos are, it's tempting to make them polished but it's more honest to show it how it is, and that it's a bit of a grind.
You end with, “Thanks for Watching”. Let me say, Thanks for Sharing”. You are amazing. I have watched since your pre-hike videos. I’m hooked! Excitement is building.
I wish I could give you a big hug and tell you how amazing you are! This is an accomplishment that will push you through so many trials in your future. You are truly a very strong young woman...both physically and emotionally. God bless you, girl. Kick that trail's ass. You can do this! Much love.
Congratulations Audrey. You will finish before you know it. Very nice to see you in a better frame of mind. Amazing what you can do when it's not flooding daily. Keep moving "north" You have got this. I know you have to finish but remember to cherish each and every day you have left. Looks like you have some wonderful lifelong friends there. Eddie
Congratulations on 2000 miles. Your almost done. I’m enjoying your videos, keep them coming. Stay safe, try your best to enjoy your final miles. Thank you for sharing.
You are kicking ass girl!!!! I've done two A.T. thru hikes and 1000 miles of the PCT and you are the most hardcore female that I've ever seen on trail. Seems like you just get into that beast mode and don't stop until you've reached your goal. You are doing great and you're an incredible woman. Much respect! geek
You hiked through the rainiest patch of summer I have ever seen and kept your courage. You're my hero. I'm lovin' the tag along. You're doing fantastic. Walk on.
North Star backpacking through the 2023 AT thru hike along side the posse. Embracing the suck once again 😢. Wonderful enchanting views! Congrats on your 2000 mile achievement. Thanks again! ✌️♥️💪🇺🇸🏔️
Another nice video. You are doing well. By the time they get to Maine, most thru hikers go through a mix of emotions. Happy to be finishing but, sad because it will be over. Watch out for post trail depression. Congrats on 13 states and 2000 miles done. Happy Trails. Good Luck, Rick PS. In wet or cold conditions the old fashioned Zippo Pocket Warmer can make a big difference. It can warm and dry clothes, gear, and your tent. It is very helpful with drying shoes overnight. It is a luxury item but when you need it, its worth it.
Contact your school district. Pitch the idea of programs you can share with your hiking experience on the AT. They just might provide you an extension of school start date so you are not stressed with timeline for finishing. I know you got good coverage in local media on your proposed hike this spring. Just an idea.
At some point one might say I'm going finish this regardless. I would think the school district would like to hang on to good teachers especially considering the exceptional circumstances...
@@TheJhtlag Audrey has much to share with students at all levels. This could be a great asset for any school district. One of Our Own telling about her experiences. Not just the hike but life experiences. She did a great job in including nature shots. Hope the school district has an open mind. Would take off the pressure of timing.
@@beckyumphrey2626 OK, cool. I'm trusting you on this. Last I heard her say she HAD to be back to sign her contract, so guessing that got worked out (?) Makes sense to me, bring in a sub for a few days whatever the situation is. If i'm correct the situation has already resolved itself one way or the other but I'll just go with virtual time now, 8/20 I'm not buying it anymore she was crunching the 100 MW to get done to meet the deadline. Anyway, my first comment was a rhetorical one/subjunctive one of how someone might handle the situation.
Audrey i'm proud of you! You're one strong young lady. Those injuries of yours sure do look painful. 😮 It looks like you've found a great group of friends to share your victory with. 🎉❤ Congratulations and best wishes to your friends just in case I miss it. Be careful, stay safe and enjoy your Hike. 🙏
You are doing great ! Your adventures are amazing and those of us who Like and Subscribe are rooting for you and your tramly. Keep on truckin’ thru Maine and safe travels home.
To say that you are an inspiration to your students is a huge understatement. The determination and strength you display shows just how much of a leader you are. Your students will always benefit from your experiences as you have. The tears and emotions show that you are able to overcome the obstacles you have encountered. Congrats on becoming a 2000 miler. You are amazing,. We live in New Hampshire. We can't believe how much rain we have had, It has been a terrible season for thru hikers. We are rooting for you,. You are doing really great. Hike On
Amazing how fast your 23 minute video speeds by as you document your journey through Maine--rain, mud, rocky summits, food and trail family. Not to mention persistence and grit. And a few tears as you edge closer to the summit. All is good!
Kudos to you for being so real ... "Big emotions." I have been watching you since you were practice hiking in Missouri and I am in awe of what you have accomplished. You never fail to make me smile, think and shed a tear or two of joy for you. You've made a heck of a vlog. Cheers to you young lady.

Very busy and productive week! You sure have had the rain! You did great on your journey. Bet your students are excited. Sure looks like NH and Southern Maine were rough on your arms and legs. Great battle scars though. You're emotions make your vlogs real. Looking forward to your summit video.
I watched your first videos and said, 'no way she is going to make it.' You proved me, and I imagine many others wrong. You're amazing Audrey, I would have put you down for not being able to pull this off at the start. You are however proving me wrong and I salute your determination, persistence and courage some of that trail is downright scary.

The hits just keep coming, but North Star grinds on!

@beckyumphrey2626... So true! It's the inspiration she imparts to all of us that makes her vlog so unique and uplifting.
I had an English professor who said that “poetry is the spontaneous overflow of powerful emotion”. Seems appropriate to me given this trail.
audrey, the bigger the heart, the stronger the emotions and inner feelings !!
so hang on girl, cuz ur the real stuff .
