I like the mower! I have a 60” Frontier GM2060 that I’m not so happy with. I’ve cut my lawn and yard areas ( 6.5-7 acres) for past 10 yrs with finish mowers, a anti-scalp roller is a must on finish mowers. Love you guys and your videos!
11:40 - DUDE! You are flying the drone while driving the tractor, aren't you? I'm impressed! On a different note, put that tractor in high range and high gear and put some grass behind ya! Otherwise, by the time you get to the end of the field, the first half will have grown up again and you'll never get to quit mowing! 😉
I bought a finish mower a couple of years ago and sold it pretty quick. A good zero turn was what the doctor ordered. It will literally cut circles around a finish mower. I will say that it may not be best for everyone, but we have a couple of lawn tractors, a bush hog, and a zero turn. Between all that we have exactly what we need.
Im on the 3rd season of my fm5 mower exactly like yours but a 5'. The guage wheels failed a week ago and cost 140.00 to replace. The new wheels have a grease fitting for the bearing so they are much better. I believe this mower is actually an Italian brand by the name caroni. I have replaced 1 wheel fork so far. They arent bad at around 22.00 a pc. The shaft on the originals are very soft. I ended up using red loctite on all the bracket fasteners because they came loose a lot and i put them on with an impact. I make it a point to grease the spindles before every mow. They are still nice and tight. I have replaced the belts and blades once which werent a big deal. I have had to replace all of the grease zerks a few times over due to the coming loose and falling off. The powdercoat is finally starting to peel. All in all it's been a decent mower for the price. I change the gearbox lube every season. If i can get 3 more years out of it I'll be happy lol
I have the 6' woods finish mower.... I have mine set at 4.5" .too high.... I have found that cutting with the wheels at the most extended height,.makes the shaft easy to been....be aware... BTW I am very hard on equipment....in my humble opinion 😃 you will love the batwing for pasture maintenance...I prefer my finish mower over a zero turn.... keep on providing much needed information to the less informed
Josh, got a woods RD 60 finish mower. Its nice but it takes forever to cut the grass. My year old Scag Cheetahs' deck met with a buried stump and buckled like a can. Don't know if it can be straightened properly. For now im on the tractor, nice video Josh and thanks for the vids.
Maybe it's Texas grasses but I use a 10' or 6' bush hog(brand) mower on the farm and a JD MX-6 at my factory. With sharp blades it looks like I used a lawn mower when I cut.Heck of a lot faster that a finish mower and less prone to damage when hitting something other than grass.
Amos...I agree with the blades on a standard bush hog being tougher....this is just one more way to cut your grass....my average speed was 4mph...pretty impressive for this setup I must say
Another great video. How are the dogs and the puppies doing? Who does your drone footage? It really is great how they are able to follow you all around the farm. I can't believe you don't have people wanting to help mow your fields for you. I live in Pennsylvania or I would be one of the people volunteering to help out as I am 61 and can't work at my regular job because of health issues, but could certainly ride a tractor forever with no problem. I have be watching your videos since you had that trespasser on your land and never miss watching one on here and Facebook whenever I got notified. Hope all is well in light of the storm that came your way and I will be praying for you and the rest of your great farm. Woooooo !
Titan is making some really good attachments at a really good price. I bought a Landpride years ago and I dont think its as well made as they want you to believe...and its OVER PRICED LIKE CRAZY !!
So, tell me about that PTO shaft guard with the chains. Is it all stationary and the shaft turns within it? I'm kinda behind the times, when I was messing with equipment like that there were no guards on PTO shafts.
After watching this video, I decided to buy one of these mowers. It arrived late in the summer 2019. Did use it once then put away in the barn till this spring. I have used it four times this season. Happy with the cut . Not do happy with the caster wheels. They are cheeply made with not provisions for greasing the actual wheel bearing today while mowing the two front wheels literally fell apart the back two wheels the bearings are ready to fall apart not very pleased with the quality. purpose for my comment is to let other people know that the although it's provides a decent cut you're going to have to upgrade the wheels in order to continue to use it all your savings on this machine has been used up.I wish your review would have been a little longer than just one cut but that's my fault for not buying a better mower. Live and learn.
Contact Titan...you've probably got a warranty issue that they will resolve brotha...sorry that happened to ya. It's not a commercial machine...but it shouldn't fall apart on ya like that...email me and I'll forward your email to Titan! stoneyridgefarmer.com
If you get tired of the thicker grass rolling up remove the rear discharge chain guard, mine was sold to me like that because everyone supposedly removed theirs anyway to get more quality cut, and yes they probably did make more profit off of me
Cuts nice! Curious to see how you lift the deck more. We cut at 4-5 inches. I feel 3 inches on my lawn burns so I keep it a touch longer! I wonder if titan sells wheels with longer studs/shims? Im sure youll figure it out! Thanks again josh!
Question. What is the model number on the Titan 3 point finishing mower and where did you buy it. I went to Titan's website they do not show it. Also, it does not appear on the link showing the tools you have demonstrated. I saw one that looks like this on Walmart.com but not sure if it is a heavy duty version to use on a farm. I would appreciate you help in answering my questions. Thank you.
I thought you controlled the height using the 3 point, and the wheels were just for anti-scalp purposes? Sorry new to tractors and implements although I don't have a tractor yet, just learning.
Could we see a closeup of the grass clippings left behind? From the video, it looks like they are pretty thick like a brush hog would leave. I would be looking for mulching in a finish mower. Thanks Josh.
The more you can cut it down to the 3-4”’s of blade length or grass height. The more you train the grass or turf to max out at that height. So you want to hit it when it’s 5”’s max so the grass plant grows more shoots and more sideways instead of straight up. The old rule of never remove more than 1/3 of the total blade height comes into play there. I wish I lived down the road so I could come and help ya mow! You are definitely doing some mowing every week on that place! How much lawn area do you have now about 7-8 acres? You’ve definitely helped sell some of those through your videos of putting that thing threw it’s paces! You definitely weren’t babyish on it when you were running it! I thought for sure that it was gonna brake when you were pushing the brush into piles! Great videos!!! Thanks for sharing your time and beautiful property with us.
Hit a rock with the blade of my bush hog several years ago. That rock flew out like a missile, right into the glass block window of the house next door about 100 feet away. Good times.
It looks just like my Sitrex finish mower. I like it fine. You have to be careful not to back the deck wheels into them as the forks bend very easily and they cost $60 each
Another great video as usual, It looked so beautiful and calm out cutting and just being one with the land. Wish I had that, I will offer to cut your grass for you if I can be left alone and out there with my thoughts. We live in a tight city here in NJ and are really thinking of moving on. Thanks
Mowing height should influence your chosen type less than the terrain type being mowed does. A finish mower set low but mowing brush, stumps and molehills won’t last long or perform well, just like a brush hog set low dragging the ground mowing on a golf course would disappoint.
Well, we also dont want to scalp the ground. I dont mow very short because where I live the rocks seem to grow. Lots of hills and small mountains. From a distance part of what I mow looks like a front yard..but walk across it and you are constantly finding rocks sticking up. I rock areas I mow but with weather, rain and the tractor tires sometimes turning up a rock, rocking a field is for me a never ending chore to save my finish mower. I could brush cut it but its about four acres around my home. I have a 200 ft. driveway.
Well done, the one steep that I would recommend adding to the assembly process that you may have done (but I did not see in the video) Is to check the bolts on the blades. It should not be necessary but, if someone at the factory forgot something, it would cause a lot of damage. I do love the vids! ;-}}
Nice tractor! I've got the same exact tractor just needs paint. Someone eliminated the power steering before I bought it, but I would like to fix it because I'm just that way. I like for things to be original. Would be awesome if you did a little short video on your tractor!
Hello Josh! Did you ever tried a Flail Mower? Why did you go for a Finish? I saw in some of your videos that you have some stones in your fields, is the Finish heavy duty enough if you hit some stones with the blades? And my last question, your tractor can pull a wider Finish, for some reason did you choose this wide cut size? Thanks for your great videos, kind regards!!!
One way to really show the quality of cut is to take a rake and rake it in the opposite direction it was mowed. I'd be interested in what that would look like vs the ventrac. I know the ventrac deck costs about 3x more but hey if it measures up ya know. Looked like it did pretty good but 3point finish mowers always preform poorly in my experience. This is my field of work, so my expectations are way higher than most.
I dont recall Josh. Did you do a video yet of the stump grinder for the Ventrac? Is so can you point me in the right direction? I generally never miss an episode. Lol
