You know you're talking about your 71 Cheval things you don't like about them very simple with the door locks all you got to put is the straight door locks where you just can't pull them up with a coat hanger like back in the day
Face it, you own a base 350 Chevelle, painted up like a hot SS, so this frustration has you venting with a “things I hate” list. Get yourself a ‘71 with a 454. Get it with a man’s 4 speed Muncie with Hurst Shifter. Get it with the optional 4 spoke steering wheel. Get it with AC, cause, like hell, you said it, your are down south. And, adjust your 4-barrel and back off the gas shot at the touch of the gas pedal (the 454 will do its thing, just a hair delayed - cause, like we are not talking your dinky low 200s hp of a sucky 350) - with this Chevelle, I routinely got 18 mpg cruising at 60, about where the engine leveled out with the Crower .510 lift 230 duration cam. Do this, and I guarantee you will be much happier. You are kinda happy now, and you will be way happy with the real ‘71
Me and my buds drove these in highschool (late 80s early 90s) when they were cheap. Number one thing you forgot to mention was they're easy to steal. I could steal your car quicker than it takes you to get in it. Easy to syphon gas , steal anything off motor, sugar gas tank. I can say for a fact that alot of these stripped fixer uppers today were stolen years ago.
Not if your smart enough to 1. special hook lock that can't be opened without a special key, always have hidden kill switch , locking gas caps. I would love to let you try to take one of mine, you would be in for a few suprises
Where's the script Chevelle name plate on the trunk and grill?.I thought it was a Malibu,but probably a base model Chevelle??Imo,the SS stripes got to go.I think even the SS model is just so clean and classic looking w/out the stripes......they are done to death.

My 65 chevelle ss 4speed gets 10-14 mpg 283 and it’s making 220hp probably more it’s .30 over now so 288
