Even after all time, I agree. Life was better when everyone had to actually WAIT IN TRUE SUSPENSE … for something to be revealed. I do appreciate today’s technology, but something is always lost when something is gained. The whole Who Shot JR thing was so fun! I really enjoyed Dallas back in the day, nothing quite like it!
I rember being 13 years old and watching Dallas. I loved it. I liked the beautiful clothes, the hair, the cars, the lifestyle. No other tv show has come close to it.
Even all these years later this is still an awesome show. I will never forget Friday nights back late 70's and most of the 80's. For a while it was Incredible Hulk, Dukes of Hazzard, and then Dallas. I still believe the best primetime soap ever. The original cast had such great chemistry.
Yes and finael scenes in Dallas in jail for being framed for shooting jr dead. I would of like cliff to have got out of jail and get some revenge on bobby some how but I loved how jr framed cliff from his grave
Ken kercheval is such a good actor he clearly researched this character extremely well and deliver his lines to perfection. Cliffs character worked well with Pamela, the script was a winning recipie and the cast were exceptional. In reality this is probably a snapshot of many companies across the world forget the business texts. I also liked the character of Ray Krebbs, Patrick Duffy and Jr. To this very day this was perhaps the best to drama of its time and with the Southfork visitor attraction its legacy will continue.
Awww...Mr Cliff Barnes aka Ken Kercheval and Mrs Pamela Barnes Ewing aka the Lovely Victoria Principal...God I so miss Dallas...The best TV show in history..RIP Ken Kercheval, i so loved your spats with JR Ewing.
Ken Kercheval's portrayal of Cliff Barnes was highly underrated. The character was pretty much a weasel and a dope but I think it takes a good actor to play it right.
I was only a little kid when Dallas came out on TV...... I never missed an episode, I used to hide under the couch when my mom was watching. She never ever knew I was there. 😁👍
Your mom sounds kind of stupid to not even know that her kid is there, not a very good mother? Your mom sounds like she was a worse mother than Sue Ellen
Much love to Ken Kercheval! He is so talented and was a must have for Dallas!! Like Victoria Principal too, of course, but KK is the reason I have (and continue to) watch Dallas for as long as I'm alive
I think he was underrated too, I always felt it was a "character assassin" with Cliff. A lot of the storyline with him made absolutely no sense..... at all.....
Cliff would have never "asked for the explosion" of a rig with Pamela on there while she was pregnant.... it was never told he was an alcoholic (where the hell did that come from). Cliff gave up the Ewing/Barnes feud in the original series (the amazing shoebox episode) so him hating the Ewings again was random, especially hating all the Ewings. Bobby, Christopher, John Ross (yep, better believe it), Sue Ellen, they all loved Cliff and considered him family. So the way they made Cliff on the reboot was completely opposite to who Cliff actually was. And all of that is not a matter of opinion, all of that is true facts.
No, he didn't betray Bobby with Carter McKay, because Cliff saved Bobby AND JR's butt with the tanker collision. Which by the way, totally not relevant I know but that episode was one of the best of the whole series! Cliff could have easily dismissed what the corporal told him because it was in private, but he didn't. I guess, for me, it really ticked me off that they did that to Cliff because he was one of the few that was from the original series and now that Dallas won't be coming back that all of the sudden becomes his legacy (which is completely off). Look at all the crap JR did, which was and always will be the worst of the worst. Yet he was memorialized as a good person. Really?! I can understand doing that for Larry Hagman, because he totally deserved being portrayed in a good light and is just was amazing in general!... but Ken Kercheval deserves the same too!
Always admired Victoria. She refused a kings ransom several times to return to DALLAS and honestly the producers NEVER really made up for her absence. And anyone who didn't think she could act - check her brilliant performance in THE LIFE AND TIMES OF JUDGE ROY BEAN.
I have rewatched the series about 6 times. Watching Victoria do the Bobby death scene was heartbreaking, she acted it so great. She left when they were just about to try for a baby. The show never really was the same without her. Loved that she was continually mentioned though. I hope to visit Southfork one day, its on my bucket list.
I'll never forget the story my mother ALWAYS tells me about going into labor with me and LITERALLY threatening her doctor to have me delivered by the time "Dallas" came on at 9pm in tine for the new episode. This is probably why I'm OBSESSED with Dallas right now today...😂
the Donn yes she was, and she passed it down to me😂😂😂. Here's where you can see ALL the episodes *FREE* : ffilms.org/movies/tv-series/tv-series/dallas-1978/?tape=134
I was 6 when the first episode aired. Watched some episodes during its original run in 81-82-83 watched every episode down to the last a couple years back and again in its entirety at the beginning of 2022. Absolutely fantastic show. I'll give the new Dallas a shot too pretty soon, never managed to see it though its been iut some 10 years now.
I enjoyed the short-lived reboot for what it was, but looking back now, it definitely tarnishes the memory of the original show. I can no longer reminisce about those Friday nights in the 80's and very early 90's without thinking about the horrific tragedies that awaited a few of these characters down the road. The only thing I can really applaud the reboot for was finally explaining what happened to Pam after the car accident.
Victoria Principal and Ken Kercheval were fantastic . Cliff Barnes was a great character , you couldn' t help but like him even when he was " not so good " !
Cliff started off as a pretty decent guy, really. He was the underdog to root for, and a good brother to Pam. I liked that Cliff. He didn't last too long, sigh.
EVELYN JACKSON I agree the 2012 Dallas made him pure evil. In the original series he was really sweet with Christopher and John Ross as little boys and anxious to have little Pammy be his daughter. Then he is just heartless with adult Pamela, SMH.
Not sure what you mean by "he didn't last too long." Cliff and J.R. were the only characters to appear in every season of the show from beginning to end.
In its heyday, Dallas was great! LOL! Every wednesday night in the U.K. 1980 to 1986! The best T.V. soap opera! Digger Barnes was Cliffs dad, now and again he turned up on southfork.
MMAFighter38 I loved that show and all the cast members, but the number one couple was definitely Pamela and Bobby, when she left it didn't seem right to see Bobby with anyone else.
Vincenzo C I always thought they should’ve kept Susan Howard and Victoria and written Jenna off the show. After she and Bobby split, her character had no significance. Ray and Jenna had zero chemistry.
Jane Eyre that makes all the sense in the world that she's married to a plastic surgeon and he sure does a hell of a job lol. And you're right, pretty and and intelligent.
Oh here's a quirky co-incidence, The Plaid Jacket that Ken Kercheval wore was similar to the early Promotional Pictures he took with Victoria Principal. Also when you break down the name "Cheval" it means Horse in French.
Been watching Dallas on IMDb and just started season 10 (watched it when it first came out but only up to season 4 maybe 5 before I fell off). Yes Cliff did start off as a lawyer and champion for the working folks so I get the Kennedy comparison but over time Cliff became as greedy, rude. vengeful, scheming and conniving as JR especially when he took over Barnes-Wentworth. Ken was as good in his role as Larry was in his. Although I think the writing fell off over the seasons and the repeating plots/themes/stories are more obvious and annoying when you binge watch, it’s still entertaining enough plus you’re committed enough to the characters to see where these stories go. Anyhoo, this conversation was sweet to see. 💙
We'll miss you Ken, thanks for the Memories (1935 -2019) 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢

He still looked and sounded good here. I’m so sorry he’s gone now. He was one of my favorites on the show. He was very talented!
Ken Kercheval's portrayal of Cliff Barnes was highly underrated. The character was pretty much a weasel and a dope but I think it takes a good actor to play it right.
He was an example of don’t underestimate your enemy. Yes, he was an underrated actor back in the day…
I’ve always said if you like a character, love a character, despise a character, that actor did a great job
Remember after his suicide attempt that the doctors suggested he’d have some brain damage.. enter the dopey Cliff
I actually loved cliff , I liked him better than JR.

My parents loved Falcon Crest before 😄
I liked both. Actually I was fan of the big 4 of the 80s, Dallas, Dynasty, Falcon Crest and Knots Landing
