    Fascinating….. one of my fave CC songs…. And i obviously struggle with it as, as everyone knows, “no-one sings like him anymoooore…”
    I dont think i will ever do this justice but fascinating insight…. Cheers dude

      Hey, second you say "I won't ever do it justice" - it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy. I used to struggled with even the most mid range Pearl Jam songs, yelling my lungs out like Eddie... yet here I am. Have some faith and belief in yourself my friend. If you want it, you'll make it happen. K

    Thank you for making this video you covered the exact parts of the song I literally cannot sing. I hit it once and was amazed but haven’t been able to hit it again. But I did it once so I know I can do it again

      You're welcome. That's the idea! Work out the variable, iron out your technique and you'll nail it every single time. Best - K

    Great tips man, thanks for putting out quality information for free! I tried to cover Battle of Arcane Might by Twilight Force in a countertenor singing style, but I can't sing the ending note (I think it's an E5 or F5) with a strong head voice, it does not want to work at all. I either scream and push like crazy, or nothing comes out at all. I'm going to try a different vowel and also focus on better breath management like you mentioned and see if that works. More cry in the sound might also work, gonna try that too.

    Wow! I didn't think I would get a video as an answer, thank you! My name is pronounced like you would pronounce Jesse Pinkman (jessie). We have vowels Ä and Ö in Finnish, so I guess the Ä you are talking about should be natural for me. 3:46 Yes this is the exact problem. I seem to default to this kind of pushing, even though I try not to, probably bad habits. This video gave me a lot of insight on what I should focus on next. As for the ridiculously high note in the drag me along part, does it differ in the vowel sound? Thank you for the answers!

      No worries, thankyou. Oh, Jesse! Thanks for clarifying. We also have those sounds in english, (for example, the way I would say "away" is actually similar to your Ö vowel - kindof a ligament/schwa type thing) but we don't have written representations for them other than the IPL.
      So, the "Drag me along" section (and damn YT for removing my cover of the song, it's actually here on TikTok www.tiktok.com/@deadspiritcommunion/video/7247800673717193986 ) yes, it's a different colour within your vowel depending on your vowel.
      I'll do another video on that part too at some point - the problem with that line is really how he sings "leash" in the original. He ducks it in later liver performances, but the original connected version is possible if you sing it more like "IH" like "hit" like "l-IH-sh" straight into EH/IH, so "l-IH-sh-EH-ny-OE-dr-AA-g" - that kinda thing. Tricky to explain in a comment, but it'll come up in a future video - work on that chorus first with the vowel and support.
      Best,
      K

      "Drag" itself at what I recall is an E5 is an AA type vowel, but it's modified somewhere between wide and narrow, so OU/OE or UH depending on your voice. Think of a smaller version of the word "drug" or "truck" - but, make it less wide in the mouth and tongue.
      Best, K

      @@FoundationVocalStudio Thank you for the detailed answers once again! That is a tricky part for sure, but I'll get it sometime with these tips. Yes I have watched your cover a million times, mainly because I think it's the only cover that gets that drag me along part right, lol. By the way, I think you should give more attention to posting on TikTok, seems like the algorithm could be more in your favor there than in RUclips (and maybe not so problematic like youtube, who knows)

    Love that song, thanks for the video.
    Question. You mention that singing it in airy falsetto with little support is as bad as shouting as pushing. Why is that?

    • @FoundationVocalStudio
      @FoundationVocalStudio  Год назад +1

      It's more that it's unintended - if you wished to sing in a lighter style of mix or head, that would still require correct support and shift in the vowel and would be totally fine. What I demonstrated here is more akin to simply singing unsupported - excess air across the folds, unintended register shift when you're really intending to sing full. It would be fine to do a Jeff Buckley style version of this - if that's what you intend, but, not if it's coming out in that way from lack of correct support. The air needs to be controlled and consistent for the folds to vibrate correctly and not be under duress or excess airflow. Best - K
