    At around 3:34, are you going into a falsetto or are you pushing your chest voice?

    • @FoundationVocalStudio

      Neither - using the vowel for register and really keeping it fully connected. No pushing needed - use the CT muscle to stretch up, keep it supported outwards without holding too much air. K

    Do you have any tips for articulating when singing? My producer says my articulation sounds lazier (i’ve been practicing vowels) how do I articulate the words correctly while also using vowels?

    • @FoundationVocalStudio
      @FoundationVocalStudio 13 дней назад

      There's two formants in the vowel - front and back/F2 and F1. The front of your mouth is really where you 'pronounce' the sound (it's sometimes called 'clarity') - this changes between vowels. AY is bright in the mouth, AH is dark in the mouth as an example...

    9:07 (to 9:20) So true! That continues talk about ‘open throat’ technique was a a bit counter-productive for me in my goal to be able to sing higher notes correctly. What I learned from you to achieve that, does not feel like an open throat to me. I wouldn’t describe what I’m doing with those two words. Although I now understand that people who use the term mean the same thing, I couldn’t understand them. Language can be quite confusing.

      There's a billion videos on this channel specifically about that! Depends on your voice, but from F4/G4 you need to narrow - so AH/AW becomes OE and AY/EH becomes IH - and then higher up it goes wider again around the B/C or so depending on your voice.

Still messing with raising soft palate and diagonal and back atm. 🤷‍♂️

    Opening the mouth wide when singing high, why do pro's do itz is it to prevent possible nasality? So they have a narrow space inside the mouth, tongue raised high, and resonance feeling in the front of the mouth, but they open the mouth, not to make a bigger room inside the mouth, but just at the tip to remove nasality and make it clearer? Is that a good assesment?

    • @FoundationVocalStudio
      @FoundationVocalStudio Месяц назад

      Not really - true nasality is more linked to the velar pharyngeal port. The mouth and jaw position is linked to movement of the soft palate and shape in the back of the mouth. I don't open my mouth super wide as I ascend, just enough to be natural while still sing the words. Best - K

    I thought up a good anology for mix (i think😂) holding a chest note, and trying to move it to falsetto without going up in pitch. That is basically what cry does. Ut moves you closer to falsetto (stretching the folds) (i think😂) works very good for me uf i want to sing ed sheeran stuff. Hold a note in a early mixy range, and try to slowly go to falsetto while holding a steady pitch. 🎉 I do struggle not to do exactly that going up in pitch tho, singing low range rock songs where it is pure chest, i cant maintian chest. Like bryan adams stuff, i mix and i sound like a boy, instead of a man.. i am stryggling so hard to understand how to get harder and looser vocal fold closure, and how to maintain thicker folds going up towards where my tenor mix range "should" be. I can sing the pitches fine, it is just too thin sounding

    • @FoundationVocalStudio
      @FoundationVocalStudio Месяц назад

      If you want to look at it that way, sure. However, when you engage the CT muscle with cry - it actually brings the folds closer together (think about a circle elastic band - if you pull either end, the sides get closer, yes?). So, what you're talking about here is simply adduction of the vocal folds and shifting more towards falsetto. So, Bryan Adams isn't singing in 'pure chest' in the way you think - the first word of "Heaven" as an example, he sings OE (almost like the way I'd say the word 'early') and modifies is slightly to EH. The "EH" really means that he's in mixed voice due to the frequencies that develop/are encouraged with this sound. Instead of the vocal folds being fully contracted, they're a medium weight and being stretched to pitch comfortably. Ergo, you have a vowel issue my man. K

    And i'm back on your channel! Singing is a journey haha, so much of singing information gets misunderstood because of where you are on the singing journey. I have struggled with tongue root tention without knowing it, and today learned how to actually feel placement correctly. And i am back, and i actually understand this alot better now, because i can feel the resonances inside my mouth when chanign vowels! Hope to be able to sing like you in about a year!😂 thanks for all these cool videos!

    Hi Kegan, this might be a long shot, but I'm at my wits' end. Do you have any advice for me where to look for the cause of my problem, as you speak about hurting the voice? Here is some context: I've been on my vocal journey for approximately 5 and a half years now after I was asked to join a band as the lead vocalist for a Red Hot Chili Peppers cover band. That journey has gotten me into singing and gigging quite a lot, broadening our repertoire from just Red Hot Chili Peppers to general covers and eventually even our own music. The problem, which I'm still coping with, is that I have had consistent (almost daily) throat pain for the past 3 years. My singing teachers have not been able to identify the cause, and neither have my speech therapists and ENTs (my vocal chords are still in great shape). At this point, I have given up on singing daily for quite a while already, as singing starts hurting me after only 10 minutes of doing it, and only sing when we meet up with the band (weekly) and at gigs. My voice is generally destroyed for three days to even a week after a gig of 2-3 hour sets. Now, I don't think I have ever managed to connect my chest voice and head voice without "flipping", which gives me the feeling that I have also never actually managed to use head voice. In this case that would mean that I have been using my chest voice (up to A4) for all this time singing. I've got another gig coming up tomorrow night and I'm already dreading the aftermath, but I don't think I could ever give up on singing, although this has been physically and mentally draining me for a very long time. I hope you reach out to me. Cheers, Melody
