I grew up during NASCAR's boom period you referred to but drifted away around 2010. I think a commercial for the Daytona 500 during football season piqued my interest again. I watched the 500 and then found out about the Netflix series. I binged that as well as NASCAR RUclipsrs and haven't missed a Cup race this season. I think digging into the history more and realizing it's not just drivers turning left has kept me interested. I've looked forward to every race this season after one ends.

    • @minisuds777

These F1 reasons are exactly why I’m giving NASCAR more attention this year. There is very little to get excited about on track, the off track drama is a shitshow, and Andretti’s entry rejection was a gut punch. F1 is getting less headspace from me as a result so I’m using it as an opportunity to give NASCAR a fair shake.
I’m already a big fan of Indycar, IMSA, and WEC. Pretty certain NASCAR is joining my list of “need to watch” motorsport if the trajectory of this season keeps up.

Now if NASCAR drivers could be featured more in commercials like what Kevin Harvick did in the Mobil 1 ads. I don't expect anyone to be a household name like Jeff Gordon or Dale Earnhardt, but more normies would be attracted to the sport if the drivers were in ads. Like if JH Nemechek drove off the track to go order Wendy's through the drive through, get back on the track, and then he's eating Wendy's while driving.

@@WhopperJrNoCheeseF1 forever has been and forever will be not as exciting in wheel to wheel racing as NASCAR. Because NASCAR is pretty much a spec series, while F1 isn't, so the car performance varies. NASCAR also throws stage cautions to artificially bunch up the field. There's also the fact that RedBull got things right early on and have ridden their advantage ever since, while the other teams are scrambling to catch up to them.
Another point is reliability. Cars in F1 don't blow up nearly as often as they used to, especially the top cars.
And the last point is the unreal driver that is Max Verstappen. The guy doesn't put a foot wrong. He is a relentless machine. I don't really like his racing style, but I think he's up there with the greatest drivers ever, Fangio, Clark, Stewart, Lauda, Senna, Prost, Schumacher, Alonso, Vettel and Hamilton.
When you give a driver like Max a perfect car precisely tailored to his driving style, you have total domination.
In truth, F1 is an engineers sport. NASCAR has parted ways with the Smokey Yunick and Junior Johnson types a long time ago. In F1, these are the exact people who make the biggest difference.
Adrian 'aero wizard' Newey is the best example of that.

I just started watching again this season after stepping away after 2016. I had been watching every week since the 90s, all three top series. I didn't care for the cars, Stewart was retiring, and the fact a driver could win a championship in 2015 after missing the first 11 races, (30% off the season), left a sour taste in my mouth. I don't have a problem with KB and he won it based on the rules, but I am admittedly a Harvick fan. I would still follow the sport but stopped watching full races.
Garage 56 competing at Le Mans and RUclips videos like yours, iRacing, & the Dale Jr. Download podcast is what started to pique my interest again. I was surprised Garage 56 wasn't mentioned in the video, but I guess it could be filed under viral moments. I like the newer cars and tracks on the schedule. It's also cool to see a lot of younger drivers in the series. I don't really have a favorite driver anymore. At this point I just watch it now for the racing, which has been really good so far. I'd like to see an increase in horsepower and I still don't care for the points system or the win it all in the last race playoffs. Here's to the rest of the season being as good as it's been so far!

I was a big deal Jarrett fan for obvious reasons after his last rates I was a diehard and still am a diehard rowdy, bush fan, I only have one other reason that you might want to add. Especially in the lower series I have always rooted for the women in the sport because I think it’s good for the sport. I rooted Danica, Patrick every race she was in. That was a bust lol, but now I’ve turned my attention to Haley Deegan the next possible best lol but I do think that women coming up through the sport has a big part to do with the success of the series. For the Cup Series, at least. I think it helps to have the first month of the season on network Fox, not cable.
During the 2000s boom years an underrated factor I believe was Fox having almost all their Cup races on network, with just a few on FX.
We'll see if the momentum continues with the pivot to the races mostly being on FS1 in April.
Also NASCAR was kind of the only big game in town for a month. It will now have more competition starting this weekend with March Madness, then the Masters, and then the NBA / NHL playoffs. I'm happy and optimistic, but the circumstances get more challenging from here.

THE CAR: For the first time in a long time the car looks up to date with the times with the wraps and styling. Visuals are a big thing for many people. Imagine NFL players in big white neck rolls in 2024. Many diehards would still watch, but it looks outdated. The next gen car especially the new mustang and Camry this year look nothing like previous generations. I would hope xfinity moves in the direction as cup.

I'm sorry but this is unhinged.
The Garage 56 had about as much in common with a cup car as the street legal Camaro has.
They added downforce and all kinds of performance enhancers, it's not like they picked up a Cup car and sent it to LeMans.
They also didn't have to abide to any of the homologation and BOP rules that all the GTE cars did.

One of the things that was so great in the early 2000s was the paint/consistent main sponsors. If NASCAR teams could get large full season sponsors instead of the field looking unrecognizable week to week, i think this would also build momentum. I find a lot of the cars look very boring and if you are trying to catch someones eye in 40 seconds or less you need better designs and something familier that someone can associate with a driver. Imagine if a football team had a different logo each game? I was a Jeff Gordon fan as a kod and i sure didnt need DuPont paint but i was obessed with thay car and knew was DuPont was. Sponsor homerun right there

My dad was a Dale Jarret fan and I became a Jeff Burton fan, my brother chose Mark Martin and we used to rush home from church on sundays to watch the races. Everything changed in the late 2000s and we all fell out of love for the sport and never returned to it. Now, having watched the finish to the Daytona 500 race this year, my interest was peaked. I don’t watch most races due to work schedule and such, but i never miss the RUclips highlights after the fact. I think a big reason for the loss of interest was that the racing went a bit stale with the Car of Tomorrow and other factors such as some of the big names and families no longer participating. I have no idea who these guys are, nor do i care as much as when the Waltrips and the Earnhardts were racing. Seeing so much success of a single racer (Jimmie Johnson) made it not desirable to return.
I hate the playoff structure and think it should be tossed but what has gotten me interested again is the quality of racing and at times, the chaos. You talked poorly of the phoenix race but i found it thrilling because of sometimes 6 wide racing into the corners. That is actually amazing if not traditional. I think that the racing this year has been good, and be=ven some of the best i have seen since I left the sport as a fan. The Pixar equivalent finish certainly has helped. I mean… wow.

Shane van Gisbergen has a lot of Aussies and kiwis tuning in to watch. Its not just xfinity, its the cup races and trucks even if he isnt in them, I have followed Nascar a bit over the years. As they used to show it over here in the 2010s.
He has a lot more people following him over, than Ambrose did when he went over. With Kostecki having a run. Talk of a couple more supercar drivers getting a coulle of runs over there, there will be more Aussies and kiwis watching, our v8s are a bit of a snore fest at the moment, so there is that as well
Probably the best things to happen to v8s is Gizzy going to Nascar, Scotty going to Indy car.

I actually haven't watched a race in 2 years. I have a full schedule and I don't have a tv, so I have to catch the highlights, so I'm not as die hard of a fan as I used to be, I try to, with my schedule. I still keep up. I USED to watch every race, Cup, XFinity, and Truck, and if it was a race with a cup guy in a lower series, I would lose interest, I would pull for the guys in their series. I watch racing for racing, regardless of who is or isn't in the race. There is one guy in trucks I keep up with because I saw him race (and win) locally at my home dirt track last year and has run really well (6th at Atlanta) But with my lack of tv and a full schedule I don't know who a lot of these up and comers are, I used to follow even the feeder series to see who the next big stars are.

The only problem I have, is will Nascar have the same problem as F1. As a British fan of motorsport, I am on the outside but F1 had a boom in US viewership post-Covid due to Drive to Survive and the season long championship battle in 2021, but has now declined as F1 has gone back to the 1 team dominace DTS kind of glossed over and 2021 gave fans a false sense of reality of what an average F1 season is like (I also know with F1 it is hard to watch races most of the time with the time differences so that is anothsr factor). The start of the year has been amazing to watch as a fan but I have to wonder if Nascar has a few too many boring races in a row, will the newer fans stick around or leave like they did with F1?

  • @jamesrodda7133
    @jamesrodda7133 2 месяца назад

Nascar couldn’t have asked for a better start to a season (ignore Phoenix). Clean hard racing, exciting finishes, new winners every week, consistent lead changes for the most part. A big thing I think that is adding to the increased viewership is accessibility to the race itself. Up to this point every race was shown on Fox which doesn’t require some ridiculous amount of money to pay for. I wouldn’t be surprised if viewership dips when races get shown on FS1 and USA network but as it stands now the stars have aligned perfectly for nascar to this point.
