The restrictor plates make the cars slower to get to race speed, if you hang back and get an early start, you can pass a lot of cars. He might have even been a wave-around and was still trying to catch up when they took the green flag and it just worked out for him. I can't remember exactly.

Safety was the reason to get rid of the tandam racing. The second car in line could basically see nothing, so it was a safety issue. I did prefer that to some of the other forms of racing we have seen at the plate tracks. NASCAR really needs to figure out what they are doing with plate racing.
Watching these make me hyped for the races coming up, but then I remembered what car we have, and then I continue crying. Thankfully, we have Eldora today

Even though I've owned a few older muscle cars and have been to some drag racing events which I see as instant gratification in person, I rarely watch it on tv or live streams. Occasionally, I'll sit through some of the 20-45 minute highlight shows but I've got absolutely no patience, and could never understand why anyone would travel for hours to spend big money, or give up a Sunday afternoon to sit in front of a television, and watch cars drive around in circles for hours. I mean no offense to any any of you fans, maybe it's a bit of jealousy I haven't been able to figure out and enjoy.
I like the intense action and side by side passes and strategies. That's what gets my into NASCAR. I will admit that there have been a couple boring races though... **cough** Atlanta **cough**
