  • Flower farmer Georgie Newbery of Common Farm Flowers in Somerset is inspired by the questions she’s asked when teaching to describe five aspects of being a flower farmer which you might not expect. She does this with the visual aids of a year planner and a vase of enormous dahlias. Flower farming may seem like a dream life - Georgie talks about the strategies she uses to keep living the dream. If you like the free tips she offers in these clips and want to support her in making more then do ‘buy her a coffee’ - link in bio xxx

    Hello Georgie. Another great video, thank you. Ideas for future topics... a day in the life of a flower farmer... same as some previous videos but in more detail. What do you think? Hope you have a really lovely weekend.

    I am a flower farmer in the states. I really like your videos! They are very helpful. Would love to see more on wedding arrangements. I am considering getting into the wedding venue. I am only doing bouquets right now.

    Hello Georgie,
    Just found your channel last night.
    The tour of your Mother's garden was fantastic, not just the plant aspect but the commentary. "Can you spell it without a sherry" 🤣
    Absolutely love it.
    I'm off to scrum my nails now 🌷🌻🌹
    Much love x

    Hi from New Hampshire. My current gardening challenge is mastering the skill of germinating seeds. Germinating Delphinium and Bells of Ireland are the bane of my existence. I would find a discussion on hard to germinate seeds interesting. Watching your videos is always the bright spot of my day. Thank you for producing such great content

    Hi Georgie ☺️ Would you make a video about the mystical world of succession planting please? I hesitated on a second planting of my sweet peas and am kicking myself now. What varieties do you succession plant, how do you map it out in your beds/rows and where do successions get planted when the beds are full…?

    There are a few plants that Ive seen being grown in the UK that I just cannot find in the US. I can’t wait to get my hands on some. I plan on working hard on finding those that are very rare in the US but more common where you are. My dream holiday is ultimate garden tour all over England and then other one is to go to the flower farms in the Netherlands.

    Hi Georgie, Do you ever get asked for tiny posies, using small flowers such as dianthus and violas?
    I'm just a gardener but I did find your video very interesting ... Looking on the outside things always look idyllic but when you get down to the nitty gritty you realise there's a lot more to it ... I would imagine self discipline is key. 😊😊💮🌺

    After one of your videos, I ordered scabiosa ochroleuca and cephalaria seeds. Could you share any tips on successfully growing these out please?

    • @theflowerfarmer
      @theflowerfarmer  3 года назад +1

      I will admit that I’m a bit of a ruthless seed sower - perennials tend to get sown with biennials mid June whatever the seed packet says and I then prick out July and grow on outside, planting out before winter if they are big enough and there’s time for them to settle in before frosts, or I keep them cool but not frozen through the winter and plant out in spring. Otherwise the Royal Horticultural Society has a great website with specific germination advice - good luck!

    What line of work were you in before you started the flower farm, if that's not too personal? Thank you.
