      Perhaps GM designed it that way in order to allow hot air to be evacuated? If so the question becomes which is more detrimental: water in the engine compartment or increased heat? Btw, it's a rhetorical question.

    I use a 2 inch roll of 3M blue painters tape. Apply in a bout 2 min remove in 30 seconds. Cost $7. Can do about 75 washes with it.

    You would think GM would have designed it differently in the first place but at least this helps.

  • @raynavarra
    @raynavarra 2 года назад +5

    I think it’s a good idea but not worth anywhere near 100 dollars. For 100 I would expect near to no water at all. I appreciate your real world testing for us to see. Unfortunately, I’m going to mark this one a No for me. I think once you take out the long piece of foam at the bottom, where the water collects. All that collected water will drop right into the compartment. And honestly if I need to use a air dryer or air blaster I may as well just blast the engine area too.

    I folded 10 cheap dish towels and moisten them. I placed them over those areas . After washing the car I checked and had no water leaks. Placed them in the washer with my other rags and used them over.

    If say they are not quite there. I’d try to make these in 3 pieces total than snap over both sides and below the glass, that divert the water outside of the area.
    Keep up the R&D please.

    Hi, love your channel, I have owned 4 Vettes in my lifetime, Don't drive anymore but still very interested in Corvettes. I love the C8 Vette but my only gripe with the design is just what your video is centered around. You would not need those vents if the headers were not up in the engine compartment. My last Car was a 1974 DeTomaso Pantera. It was a mid engined powered and never suffered from overheating and did not need vents in the deck lid. headers ran down and to the back of the car. Why do you think GM opted to run the headers up and then down to the mufflers. I never found many people complaining about the messed up engine compartment, That part of the design to me sucks bigtime. BTW My Pantera ate Lambo's and other Italian stallions for lunch time and time again.....

    C7 owner here. I respect the fact that this is a non-issue for some. For me, it would be simply because I don't have the time to dry an "extra" area after washing my car. I probably would go the HTC route if I got a C8 for several reasons...this being one of them.

I had no idea so much water actually accumulated in the engine bay. So, with this add-on there's no runs, a few drips, and no errors. 🤣 I would hope before the generation ends GM will correct this problem., but this add-on is very well priced and worth it! Well done Mike. 👍👍

    The question needed to answer is 'will the product staand up to the water jets in a touchless carwash or will the force just blow them off the car like another product which uses long rubber pieces to cover the vents. Just being able to cover the vents from a regular hand washing garden hose is not what is wanted. It must be able to seal it under the water pressure in a touchless auto car wash.

    Drying the car down before opening the hatch when you had the product installed doesn’t provide an apple-to-apple comparison. I think you would have found half the amount of water in the engine bay had you dried the car down before opening the hatch without the product installed. Also, I personally like a little water in the engine bay so that I can dry it down and remove any road grime that accumulates between washes.

  • @TCE63
    @TCE63 2 года назад

    Definitely interesting. If history would predicted the future, there would be no way the engine bay would get wet. In 1963 the hood vents were designed to be open but due to ( and there are a few stories) either hot air getting into the cabin, rain getting into the engine bay, or even the front of the car lifting the production vents were faux. Maybe This time around engineering prevailed with Tadge and team. :)

  • @kenjohnson5914

    Doesn't look like ti works very well. Still to much water. I bought 4 bath towels at Costco for $15.00 and place them in the engine bay. I don't have any of this water. Towels are a little damp so I use one of them to wipe down any dusty areas. I think the designer of the plugs needs to go back to the drawing board.

  • @marct9360
    @marct9360 2 года назад +2

    Why not have a permanent gutter underneath the vents that channels the water to the rear. That way you can drive in the rain. 😉

    • @BrinkofSpeed
      @BrinkofSpeed  2 года назад +2

      You can drive it in the rain, these weren’t built for rain driving, they were built for washing your car. This engine bay was tested pouring thousands of gallons of water into the bay and it never affected the engine. It’s just a minor inconvenience for most after washing their car.

    • @marct9360
      @marct9360 2 года назад +2

      @@BrinkofSpeed While I haven't had access to a C8 coupe for a long enough period of time to really study the underneath side of the hatch, I still think some type of gutter system deflecting the water down and away from the engine would be the best of both worlds. That way rain water or car wash water would not be a problem.

    Something is wrong, how could the engineers forget this design flaw ??? It doesn't make sense. Unless there really is no issue with water leaking into the engine, maybe the water cools the engine and its a benefit?? I don't get it. Also you were spraying only in one direction, from the top down towards the rear end angle, what if it is raining cats and dogs. Maybe due to the carbon fiber and engine, water is not a danger ??? I think it is.
