Hoover Turbomaster Freedom Vacuum Cleaner - A Bagless Disaster!

  • "No dear there's no bag to change, you just unclip the front, wiggle the filter and empty into the bin."
    If only it were that easy, TV advertising has mislead me again because no amount of wiggling the filter is going to improve the suction on this car crash of a vacuum cleaner.
    Watch me take a tour of this Hoover Turbomaster Freedom bagless vacuum before putting down more dirt than it can cope with and finishing the video cleaning up the mess the Hoover left after the demo.

    Hahaha the sarcasm on the cleaning effectiveness. I can’t believe they actually sold this machine. It just moved the dirt around and threw it in the air 😂

    My mum had that vacuum in the early 90s. She wanted the one with electronic speed control and cord rewind but it was out of stock and the lady in the electricity board showroom persuaded her to get the new Turbomaster with no bags to buy! She bought it and had it for only a year, she hated it! She replaced it with an Electrolux Airstream 1000.
    I got a Turbopower Freedom about 10 years ago. I found the main reason for the clogging, so quickly, was the mesh screen, any lint, hairs etc, just blocked the suction off instantly, as soon as anything fibrous was sucked up! It was probably okay if you had a relatively clean home but you would of had to empty constantly and useless if you had pets. How Hoover ever even realised these Freedom cleaners onto the market, is absolutely incredible.

    The sebo vacuum towards the end was refreshing to watch. Now thats what you call a decent vacuum cleaner.
    Good video 👍🏽

    Fun fact: Hoover would later reuse the filter wiggler patent - only this time automating it - on the Hoover Z400 and Z700 series vacuums.

      The Hoover Nanolites also had filter wigglers! I’ll never forget back in 2008 how odd I thought that feature was

    Wow that filter looks like a vehicle air filter for engines air intake, I would not be surprised if you took it to a car spares they may have one of that size/dimensions 😅

    Love this videos, what I can say that for me I started here in my country with a Sanyo with the shape that it looks like an egg. The filter it’s the same shape as that Hoover. And the mesh it cover to the front of the filter still same issue the fluffy dirt will choke the vaccum. But at that time cleaning an old car it was ok to empty the dust cup every use. We use that car to transport a lot of things for an small bussines so cleaning every week was a big chore. I didn’t realize about bag in a cleaner until we got a Philips with a cloth bag. Still it wasn’t disposable so I started to prefer bagless because cleaning that bag was not fun.

    The filter cleaner isn't broken, they were just that bad from the factory 🤣🤣 it doesn't do anything at all, and sliding it is just pointless.

      As it makes a “buzz” sound when sliding the knob, I assume it is trying to shake/vibrate the dust off the filter

    • @huskyvacs
      @huskyvacs Год назад +4

      Yeah that high pitch scream on startup is from the bearings being worn down to nothing. It's going to need a new set of bearings, grease, oil, a full teardown. It likely has had a lot of dirt and grit get to the motor and into the bearing pack which exacerbated the wear.

    I've come across many bagless vacuums that I had to do some work on, and most of them are pretty good in my opinion. (Yes, Dyson pulls it off the best way.). Sure it is a matter of preference, but I like not having to get new bags all the time, and I don't mind emptying the canister. This however is a disaster, apart from running really rough. No wonder there's a bagged conversion kit for it.

  • @DavidMantle139

    It hurts my head that any vacuum cleaner company can replace a perfectly functional bagged system with a bag less filter that instantly clogs up after one use and nearly always needs another vacuum cleaner to remove the dirt.

    • @huskyvacs
      @huskyvacs Год назад +3

      This was over 30 years ago, bagless vacuums were a brand new technology at the time and every manufacturer was trying to copy Dyson/Amway/Fantom at doing the bagless vacuum design and a lot of these ideas were failures.

      A lot of them still are failures needing far more maintenance than simply just changing the bag.

    • @NumaticVacuum
      @NumaticVacuum 11 месяцев назад +3

      @@RWL2012 Yes, though it wasn’t technically a Dyson and it wasn’t mass market. Hoover wouldn’t of produced the Freedom to compete with that. It would of been to compete with other cleaners that has bagless containers at the time, like the Goblin Lasers and some Hitachi machines.

    Did Hoover ever release a bagged version in this color scheme? I really like it; it just screams very early 90s to me. Also, about the conversion kit; was the bag door that was supplied in the kit match the color of each machine it was designed for, or was it just a generic color?
