New Brake Pad & Rotor Kit from 1AAuto.com 1aau.to/ia/1ABFS02463
Brake pads wear out over time, much like tires, and need replacing, on average, every 50,000 miles, with variations depending on driving habits and environment. Brake rotors may also need to be replaced if they are warped or grooved. Often, it’s safer and more cost effective to replace pads and rotors at the same time. Squealing or grinding noises, or wheel vibration are all symptoms of worn brakes. This video shows you how to install new, quality TRQ brake pads and rotors on your 2007-14 Ford Edge.

Straight to the point! I wish every instructional automotive video was this concise and informative - Excellent job, thank you!
No need to look any further. HANDS DOWN THE BEST VIDEO on changing the rear brakes on the Ford_Edge! Very straight to the point. Lighting was excellent(not like other video out there that can't show exactly what you mean). I couldn't get the piston to compress in until this vid on how to do it.
Thank you for your time. Excellent job!
Wow! No B.S. and straight to business. Also, no lousy background music. Awesome job!
Best video on the subject hands down...hope you get way more views! And for those watching, the reason your Edge rear brakes are loud is because you are not following cleaning and lube procedures demonstrated in this video!
Hey, great instructional video well done and covered everything required to do a proper job. I've gone the extra step by grinding/wire brushing the caliper surface after masking off the pistons, as well as the brake caliper bracket, and then high heat primer coat 3X followed by a caliper paint 3X before reinstalling. If you have wide spoked wheels, the extra effort sure shines through and they look like a brand new install/upgrade.
Well done. Done many DIY brake jobs in the past but since daughter bought a new used car thought I'd check out content on brakes before tackling the job so there were no surprises. Like others said, straight and to the point. Should be easy as it's like others I've done before. Thanks for sharing and well done.
+SC Kuhl Thanks for watching our video! 1aau.to/m/Shop-TRQ
Just made a caliper piston spinner outta some 1 1/4” steel pipe and stuck it on my drill with a hole saw.
Works like a charm
Wow, really enjoyed your easy to follow and clear visual instructions. Made my brake job easier. Thank you.
Outstanding video guys. The best one I have seen TRQ rocks!😁
Great instructions. I had to heat up the T40 to remove and make sure you get a padded set of needle nose pliers. It takes alot of effort to twist that caliper back in
My dad and I couldn't figure out how to get that caliper cylinder to depress. Thanks alot! pliers and a few good turns and boom done!
Maaan..you are thorough! There are a lot of mechanics out there that should take note.
Best video I’ve ever seen on a brake job! Excellent, easy to see steps. Thank you Sir, I’m a subscriber now
You do good and thorough work. I had to heat one of my long pins and use a line wrench to get it loose. Thanks for your video!
I remember when my $$$ OEM wheels were scratch free. Those wheels eat curbs. Thanks for the video. It was to the point. Too bad that my ten year old vehicle needed new calipers.
Instead of cracking the bleeder loose just open the brake Reservoir cap that usually allows room for the expansion. Great videos man keep up the hard work
+Rambo Ollie Thanks for the feedback! 1aau.to/m/Shop-TRQ
Or a C-clamp maybe idk 😐
@@zeromarine1985 c clamp won’t work because this piston twists not pushing in
Ha!!..I’m glad I watched the video 👍..tried to push in the piston old school way…glad I didn’t get TO aggressive…was going to order a tool for pushing it in and go back at it 👍🙏…thank you
Thanks for the video bro, I'm gonna be changing my brakes on my edge sometime this week! It was very clear and informative. I hate doing rear brakes with those calipers you have to twist in lol. I watched this video just to make sure I had all the right tools and it looks like I'm good to go
+Andy Miller Thanks for watching our video! 1aau.to/m/Shop-TRQ
Me too... FWIW, many auto parts places will "loan" you a caliper wrench at no charge, (with a small refundable $ deposit) to make twisting them in a bit easier...
Fantastic job! Would this all be the same for a 2008 Lincoln Truck MKX AWD 3.5L FI DOHC 6cyl ?
Great video. No nonsense and straight to work. Thank you
+Señor Perez Jr Thanks for watching our video! 1aau.to/m/Shop-TRQ
Thanks man! Wish all videos were like this
Great video, very informative, easy step by step,I have subscribed!
Made this look easy. Thank you
I think your video is super awesome. I was looking for one little small detail and that's how to put the tens on and which way to put the little hooky do. LOL LOL... Your video is so awesome!!! I really appreciate your help. Please keep making videos. I'm a mechanic and I most definitely will subscribe and follow you. I love the hickey comment. Last of all you even give the torque specs and that's not in a lot of videos I would say not in 70% of the videos on RUclips you are awesome man please keep it up.
Is it necessary to open the bleeder valve when turning the piston back in or will it just push the fluid back up into the reservoir under the hood?
Great video, thanks so much
this is the gold standard brake replacement video!!! Thank you!!!
Great video. Is there a reason you dont just use a caliper piston tool that rotates the piston while it depresses it? Instead of using pliers? I havent started the job yet so maybe there is something im missing. Thanks!
What is the orange special looking bolt thing. Mine has it on both rear sides.
Great vid, thank you! 👍
Best brake job ever! Love the "extra" cleaning you did, 110% Pro! TY!
great video - thanks
This Is a great video thank you
Is the notch in piston supposed to line up with the notch in the brake pad or does it automatically happen when depressing brakes?
Q: do these as a rule have the chrome lug nuts with covering that can swell ?
Does anyone know how to go about removing the 13 mm bolt that connects to the torx piece to the bottom of the caliper bolt? I accidentally stripped mine and now there's no way to get it off.
My rotor has no torque 40 screw in it??the 5 holes are there but i am lost...help please?
Perfect video tutorial.
Great vid. To the point done and done👍 Some instructionals like the sound of their own voice and just drag everything out 🤦🏽
3 questions. 1)Are these rotors and pads the same as on the 201 Ford Edge Sport? 2)Does this process apply to both front and rear brake?. 3)how do you suggest going about painting the calipers? Thank you for your time!
Excellente video.
Yessss i knew i wasnt the only one who puts rotor backwards to brake clean
Why didn't you use the rear brake caliper tool instead of pliers?
Your telling me when you get a brake job done they do all this at a shop?Or is this just if your doing it yourself and want to make sure everything is perfect?
Nice video but do all mechanics do all this cleaning too I seen they just remove old install the new ones back
Clear plastic hose on your bleeder screw and you will see if air is in the line and will stop air from getting into the system.
You will see along column of clear fluid.
Do not push dirty fluid through the brake lines.
Good video
I bought new rear rotors for my 2014 ford edge 3.5 v6 and it had the rotor screw on each of them. The problem is when I took of my wheels my rear rotors don’t have a screw hole.I bought this car from a dealer two years ago. How can I put the new rotors on with no screws? I know I bought the right rotors.
I thought that the caliper bracket for a 2012 Ford Edge was supposed to be torqued at 98 ft lbs.?
Undo the T40 bolt before taking brakes off
Appreciate the info....always like to review these before performing on a vehicle I'm not 100% familiar with. 2 x comments: First, I would ALWAYS retract the piston with the old rotor around so you don't worry about accidentally damaging it or something....you can also spray WD-40 on the boot around the piston to help it collapse a little easier. Second, you can rent the tool to easily collapse the piston from Autozone for free instead of cracking the bleeder and would recommend at least bleeding it properly if you do open it.
The bolt on the rubber dampner will not move
Lub it man $ 👍 💯
Do you HAVE to torque your caliber back to manufactured specs?
+maurice stevenson Yes you will want to torque them to spec when reinstalling.
great!! !
can you adjust these calipers when the pads wear a little????
+Jeff Lotz Thanks for watching! You can't adjust calipers like that, they will "adjust" along with the brake wear.
@@TRQ thanks bro
Damn, when I saw them depressing the caliper with the needle-noses, I clenched my ass a bit. I'm 100% using a caliper piston tool, because I can totally see my hand slipping and that needle nose tearing the caliper grommet wide open.
I can’t get the darn piston to turn at all. Any tricks? I even bought the tool to do this.
Sometimes if u spray break clean on the piston and rubber that'll free it up, if not u probably have to replace the caliper.
Open the mater cylinder cap for fluid expansion always does the trick for me
@@ramboollie8115 Use penetrating fluid and try to get it past the boot. If that won't work most likely the piston is seized, replace caliper. They are not that expensive.
Just buy the tool to push piston back in like dam
Yeah I got the tool for like $20 on Amazon and it fits a crap load of pistons
Hello, what tool do I buy to push the piston in?
+Gavin Berardesca Thanks for watching! We offer the piston cube tool here: www.1aauto.com/brake-caliper-piston-rewind-cube-performance-tool-w80621/i/1axaa00061
Why buy a tool, I already have a large C clamp I used on my old car.
What year was this Edge? I just did my wife's 07 today, and the rear calipers didn't have the notches for the twist to press in. The face was completely smooth.
+Kiley Staats 2013 Edge!
What did you do to combat that? I'm working on my rear brakes today. I also have an 07
@@naomic123 just use a c-clamp and an old brake pad to push piston back in
@@diablo2815 a C clamp won’t work if the piston needs to twist
Hey so this is probably way too late to reply, but they do make caliper piston tools that sit between the piston and the other end of the caliper, and are threaded to spin while applying compression force. It will probably give you a better shot, personally I'd be afraid to use the pliers because of the possibility of slipping the tearing the caliper grommet.
I don't believe he mentioned what size torx bit for caliper bolt
It's not Torx
They make the notches on the pistons too shallow so you can't get the tongs on the pliers deep enough so they don't slip. Careful not to have the tongs slip and puncture the piston boot. It was kind of hard to twist and turn the piston
+@bryanmarchant8027 Thanks for the tip! We'll pass this info along to our production team. 1aau.to/m/Shop-TRQ
LOL!!!! "Use your 'small' hammer!" FWIW to others, many auto parts stores will "loan" you a caliper wrench kit that will easily spin the caliper in, if you don't have the mentioned long needle nose pliers...
I cannot believe you are not using the correct brake pistons rewind back tool and you wouldn’t have to release the brake bleed screw
I hate to say this publically, but I didn't watch the end of this video, & I used a 6 inch C clamp (as usual!) to push the calipers back in. It was SO HARD, I bent the C clamp. After switching around the C clamp a few times, the caliper went in easy & smooth. Did I destroy the calipers by not twisting & pushing with needle nose pliers like you did? Doh!
Probably, the piston screws in, how do the brakes work ???
@@leonmarks8724 Brakes are weird now. Peddle depresses 3/4 way normal, with normal braking, but then peddle gets stiff & braking fades, requiring double the foot pressure to stop. Getting new tires Monday, having shop look at it & decide if I should replace calipers. Doh! Was almost the easiest brake job ever! Would have been if I had bothered to breeze through your entire (excellent) video! Not a bad idea to replace 9 year old calipers anyways, but I would have done fronts first.
@@StephenMattison66
Sounds like piston damage, won't go down all the way, best to replace. If you already replaced the brakes I am sure you will be able to replace the caliper as the piston will be in already. when you finish just open the bleeder screw and it will gravity bleed, although it will take some time. Good luck.
The Hayes video has you switching the C clamp from one end to the other to collapse the piston before you remove the caliper.
title... ford edge parking brake adjustment ONLY Problem... the Vid showed NONE of That at the caliper !!
Why is nothing rusted? You do not live in Canada. Good video anyways- thanks.
+Lysle Anderson Thanks for watching our video! 1aau.to/m/Shop-TRQ
That piston system is jank!!! I modified a set of my welding pliers and got the job done finally
There's a tool you can rent from most auto stores to twist the caliper back in. Got mine from AZ it's pretty good. Good enough to keep actually. Has numerous patterns to match slots on integrated calipers like that.
I'm going to order the tool online
"A couple bonks" not for this ohio cowboy lmfao
