It shouldn’t have had the stickers, and should have come painted on like they are on the Missing link toy coloured version.

Agreed. Also the stickers aren't very precisely cut, so when you put them on a toy as high grade as this, they look cheap. They look like stickers.

I like the deco without the stickers. Would not have bought it if they were painted on. Different strokes for different folks.

@@Speed-ku6jx also this came out before missing link, a fun fact is that the OG optimus prime toy in 1984 had stickers for those details. making the mp-44 recolor more accurate to the original toy than you think.

I actually think this MP version with the toy deco works better than it does on the MAGIC SQUARE LIGHT OF PEACE version. Whilst LOP Regular is an absolute beauty, with the toy deco that one looks jarring. But here on the Masterpiece, with its different proportions, the toy deco, and colours seem to work GREAT. Would have been good if they could have included an accurate Toy Version G1 head ( as seen on Missing Link ) - that would be the icing on the cake.

Over the years I've heard so many complaints about the backpack on this thing and personally ive only ever owned the KO with the reworked backpack . But now i have this in hand it doesnt bother me at all . Apart from the reduced articulation which 8s easily resolved. And the extra shoulder faction symbol will be going onto my KO version left shoulder so happy days

I maybe jaded but the more I look at MP-44S the more I sense Takara saying goodbye to the MP Scale. Excellent review and a fair assessment overall. For me, I'm sticking with the MS Optimus toy deco. I really like that mold and it looks great.

Watch out for his head antenna. One was bent on mine on arrival because of how thin they are. You can pop his head off and store it elsewhere for safety.
Also the knees are a bit frightening. That double joint is so tight, it felt like I had broken it when flexed the knee. It just doesn't feel good to do. I don't trust it.
And one of the panels in the leg transformation is so small and thin that I could see people snapping it off by accident, simply because the leg transformation is a barely controlled explosion of bits.

This does look very handsome, but - perhaps it’s just me - but this kind of looks like TT are mixing their aesthetic metaphors… hyper-toon accurate bot but done in toy deco… Just a bit off for me (unless there’s a secret toy accurate head included)
Personally I’m more looking forward to receiving my Missing Link Optimus, that’s seemingly how to collide two worlds (as is MP36+, god-level)

At a price of $220+ and here in the Netherlands 240 euro this release is very lackluster. Things you don't want to hear at that sort of price is stickers, left sprue marks/flash and cheap feeling plastic. It at least should have been painted/tempo at a minimum but better yet slight remold to do the same as missing link. The blue windows are also a missed opportunity. Personally i don't think in it's current state is worth a 4/5.

It is disappointing that they sculpted and pad printed the paint accents on the missing link but not the far more expensive MP.

This was my first MP44. It's very nice, But even with the more toy oriented colouring, MP10 is still more visually interesting. I get that people want to have toys that look like the cartoon, But I just find the aesthetic boring when realised tangibly.
I think the aesthetic of 2D art and sculpture are very different. What works on a flat surface on your screen or comic book page doesn't really work as an object. MP44s, even with all the silver, just doesn't pop like MP10.
And of course, the animation models were heavily simplified for the sake of cheapness. Bur ironically, to get a transforming toy that looks like that incredibly expensive! Hah. But it comes at a certain sacrifice to durability and intuitiveness.
There are parts of that transformation that are absolutely nightmarish, like parts of the leg and the backpack. And I had to straighten one of his head antenna because it had been bent inside his chest transformed into the truck.
