So, when you remove the steering rack, my rule of thumb is to take the seatbelt and buckle it through the steering wheel. When you remove the steering shaft from the rack your wheel inside the car can turn freely. The problem is your have a “clockspring” behind the wheel. That’s what you broke and pulled out from the column in the video. Your wheel got turned when you disconnected it. So when you put the new rack in your steering wheel in the car had turned around. It has to be set back to “0” the clockspring can’t rotate that far around and so it broke. This can affect the horn, the airbag, and now your turn signals. That’s what auto stops the blinkers when you turn. Keep that in mind next time, love the videos!

That is a great tip, I didn't think anyone turned the wheel, but I could be wrong. I didn't even check to see if the blinkers worked... I am sure the neighbor will let me know if they are broke. thanks for the tip and for watching.

I still have the old one. It runs great, just leaks oil. I need to do a how to replace an oil seal, but locating one has been difficult. I just put oil in it before use... thanks for watching.

How full is the swear jar after a job like that?

Funny, there was some aggravating parts, but luckily not one swear word... I did have one mystery bolt that I have no clue where it went. I guess I can put it in the swear jar. Thanks so much for watching.

I have personally drove my golf cart from the passenger side while delivering Flyers but it was definitely a bit awkward.
In a full-size vehicle not having a steering wheel in front of you would definitely be very awkward.

Not a bad trade unless you had to buy all the parts you replaced. Did you do an alignment after rebuilding the front end?

He bought all the parts and alignment is next on his list. I don’t know, but I might be working too cheap. Thanks for watching.

big big job. my area salt/calcium chloride rots out sub frame hardware sockets wont work have to weld something to them my daily driver car coming up on 400k im 1 owner the rack/pinion only leaks on the -30 below days & original cv axles sound like a funky marching band biggest problem now is valve umbrella seals rotted gone so oil leaks into cylinders puff of blue smoke every cold start

    So many questions!
Did you support the engine/transmission from the top or is it not necessary?
