At the start of the video, I had a rusted cross member holding up the engine mount. Thanks for this video, I had the part in my trunk for over a year, and today I finally got it installed after watching your video 5X. I didn't need the impact wrench. All I had to do was remove the splash guard. Thanks again for this detailed video with socket sizes.

Thanks for the info I'm doing a 08 jeep compass and i had a little bit of time on the front bolt since I couldn't see it so I just use the grinder and cut it since you could see from the bottom

Thanks for Sharing. Very comprehensive video. And no I was not dropped on my head. I have a Chargers R/T, two GTXs, Cornet R/T and a Roadrunner, all pre 70, and my daily driver is a Chevy

😃 I was just giving Chrysler a hard time. Frame rusted out on our 4runner and a 2010 Silverado. Thank you for watching.

I’m am the least experienced wrench turner I know. I did the front and rear last fall in my driveway. RUclips videos and a Haynes manual was all I needed.

My dads not a mechanic but he’s worked on my 2012 jeep compass for anything i’ve needed he’s good with his hands but my rear sub frame is rusted out (i don’t know if that’s what the part is actually called) my back rear tires slant inwards a bit. he was questioning if that really is something he can do at home for me he said it looks like it’s held on with bolts or whatever so he thinks he can was it really not that hard to replace? he said something about having to take out the engine and stuff to replace it and that’s the hard part or i really don’t know if that’s what he said.

I had a shop quote me for over 2k for when my rear subframe rusted out, ended up ordering the parts from amazon and did it all myself for under 300$, my front is starting to rust now but this girl is close to 200k miles, and is about to be retired soon, appreciate the video as I got the same exact compass haha same color too.

@@daisym710if you ever find this answer. Please let me know lol. I’m about to buy a patriot CRD. The front subframe may need raplaced as it’s corroding. Wondering if I can do this myself

@@kraze1668 so turns out my dad replaced my front frame about 2 years ago so it is possible! we started doing the back one I ordered the part from ebay it was about $140 i think it may be the same for the front one he says he doesn’t remember the price. the HARDEST part is taking off the rusted bolts and my dads not a mechanic but he’s a handyman so he was able to figure it out he had all the tools already that’s also a huge part if you don’t have them. also the 2008-2012 compass and patriots actually had a 10 year extended warranty for the frames they knew they corroded faster. look up warranty X69 if the one you’re buying is in between those years they were replacing them under warranty. I called a few weeks back and mine expired in oct 2021 /:

I just replaced the subframe on a 2008 jeep patriot I bought. It was not bad the front transmission mount bolt was a pain but I used a tekton 1/4 swivel ratchet with 1/4 to 3/8 adapter and 16mm socket. The ball joints can be a pain but you just need a pickle fork tool. I recommend undercoating the new subframe before you install it.

Thanks for this! I'm about to attempt this on my 2007 Compass and I'm contemplating if I want to try it in the driveway or take it to the lift. I'm accepting all well wishes and advice. Also, any tips on torque specs for reinstall?

It's really not a bad job. Go slow and make sure you have two jacks to lower it down. Chalk the rear wheels to be safe. Sturdy jack stands.

Is this the same for a 2007 compass with a 2.4

I'm about to attempt this on my 2008 Jeep Patriot! I'm def. A little nervous. This is one of only two vids I could find really that has to do with changing this on my vehicle. I know all this rust could be a huge issue trying to get these bolts out..

    • @nickall1480

I was wondering.. should we use any type of coating like copper spray for the bolts to prevent rusting and being a bitch to get out again?

It's a problem. A lot of them do, especially here in Michigan. The rear cradle rusts out also.
