Went by my Dad's hometown back in October, wish he was still around to tell me about it... Had not been there since 1968... Enjoy your folks man, make sure to learn the family history before that generation is gone, like my Dad's family...fortunately we did... Knowing where you came from helps let you find out why you are the way you are.

My Dad was born in 1920 in Ironwood Michigan, which at that time was a bustling mining town of 25,000 in the U.P. WW2 took him away from their and he never went back to live there after the war ended. I did hear lots of stories about that area though and him growing up through the depression with 6 brothers and sisters. Dad passed away here in Georgia, where I also live , in 2008. I made a trip up to Ironwood this past summer. The population is a little less then 5,000 now and really the area is just returning to pre-civilization wilderness. The tiny house he grew up in is still there! Visited the local historical society located in the old train depot and learned a lot about the town and in one display case they had a group picture of the 1938 graduating class of Dad's high school and he was pictured in it! Like you I wish he'd have been there with me. The thing is, none of his siblings or his parents stayed there. They all either moved to lower Michigan during the war for better paying jobs or went into the services and never moved back, and Ironwood is not a place you'd ever just pass through going from point a to b. If you ever find yourself there it is because that was your destination, so I hadn't ever seen it. We did find my great grandparents grave site.

Very wise words James. Whatever your history was (good and bad parts) cherish that which is good, learn from the bad, do better and - PASS IT ON. Those not rooted in their generations are easily manipulated and used by politicians, and cranks.

That’s fantastic that your grandparents land is still owned by family!
That’s a pretty church where your parents married. The conversation you had about anniversaries makes me think back to one of your Dad’s videos he filmed on their anniversary that was so unexpectedly clever and perfect. It was 1/2 video and 1/2 photo montage and part of the photo montage was your mom standing next to a cannon at Castillo de San Marcos with the tag “my beautiful bride… the love of my life… standing beside her favorite cannon” 💕💕 Too sweet those two!!! I am so glad you are documenting all of this, Adam. You said you had never been through these places before. This is great to have documented for yourself and your family. It's also nice for those of us who follow you and your journeys to learn some of your family history and nostalgia. I'm someone who appreciates this type of stuff very much, so I enjoy it when you delve into your own nostalgia, and your parent's nostalgia, and share it with us. These have all been great videos so far with this new series since the new year and I'm really enjoying it. All the local history from each place you are visiting is very valuable to have documented. Especially if one day the construction and landscape for each place ends up changing one day. It will be great to bring up these videos and see what an area looked like before the changes. Keep doing what you are doing. These are all wonderful to save for posterity. Stay safe and safe journeys to you and your mom.

Ha...when you spoke about kids walking 2 miles to school in the snow? I had to chuckle thinking of Louie Anderson's (RIP Louie) mid-80's standup. His Dad told he/brother that when he was a kid, there were no children...and he walked several miles to school in 2 feet of snow and he had no shoes...🤣🤣😆

Cool that your Mom was able to visit the sites where she spent her youth. For the first sixteen years of my life ending in 1969 my Dad was in the Army. As a civilian adult I can't enter the bases anymore. I have visited what I could on Google Earth! My sister got to visit our base and walk past our quarters in Germany because the Army closed the base and returned the area to the Germans and they remodeled and repurposed the apartment blocks for civilians. She said most were used to house refugees and foreign immigrants now. I have visited areas where both sets of Grandparents used to live and was able to recall some fond memories of those locales.

Adam, that Ford F100 of your grandpa's needs saved man. A little pressure washing would make that look good. You stated you want an old truck and there it sits. Since he was a mechanic, I bet it was maintained well. I bet it would run with a little work and parts. If I lived closer, I'd do the work for you to get it going again. Rebuilding old cars is what I do. Rent a U-Haul truck and trailer, load it, and bring it to Oklahoma. I live beside Route 66 a few miles from the Blue Whale. You could stay here for a week and we'd get it going to drive it on Route 66. I could teach you how simple old vehicles are to repair. I know it's a stretch but I'm serious. Would be great content for our channels

Been following your travels for a few years now. This is the first vlog where you were nearly in my backyard, as I live an hour away in Roanoke. Would be neat if you did your thing here, too. Roanoke has a lot of interesting things to see & visit. Give me a shout if you’re interested in a day guide! Take care!

This is so interesting. I did something similar with my parents. my parents and I went to my dads house where he grew up. HIs dad was an optometrist so they had a bit of money. The person who bought the house from his parents still lived there and all his parents appliances and all the wallpaper was there on the walls. It was so interesting. I highly recommend doing this with your parents before they're gone.

Hey Adam, with your grandfather being a pastor, and your father being a pastor - have you ever considered this life path for yourself? I really think you could do it. You are a kind man and a fine speaker. Do you ever feel like something in your life is missing?

I have noticed that you often seem to be drawn to those old classic Ford trucks when you see them out and about. After seeing your Grandpa’s truck… and knowing that he was an Auto mechanic… I can maybe understand why. Those are great old trucks and that appreciation for classic cars and trucks lives on with you. 🙂
Great video Adam and thanks so much for sharing. Tell your sweet Mom and Dad hi from us. They are truly wonderful.

Loved hearing the history of your mother's upbringing! I enjoy hearing your mom reminisce about the area. Great memories. I think your grandma just wanted the shed cleaned out and found a way to motivate you to do it! LOL! Safe travels Adam!

My parents have been gone 25 years . I so wish I'd asked more about especially dad's life before they died. Do it while you have the opportunity.
This is beautiful , thanks for sharing..

Was lucky to grow up about 100 miles west of Martinsville, and had a similar close relationship with my great-grandparents and grandparents when I was young. From the family homeplace, the old F100, hand-built auto garage, the additions to the trailer, and socializing at Hardees... lot's of similarities. Undoubtedly why you're so relatable to so many of us followers. Thanks to you and your mom for sharing your family memories!
