Have you ever tried Wild Wing Cafe a wings Restaurant in South Carolina? Ever since I've gone. I can't forget it. A big selection of wings and soup (chowder like soup) is pretty good.
I stayed at the Atlantic View Motel in this video in January of 2020,then I paid the rate of $35 a day,but the rate was only $150 a week so I stayed a few weeks, the rooms were old school but it was clean and the staff was nice. Finally settled down in an old vintage senior mobile home park in Zephyrhills Florida but that's a different story.
I you like classic cars you may like Competition Cars at 4806 Hwy 17 Bypass South Myrtle Beach. We go the MB every year so so cool to see your take on it
Adam, 3 minutes in the guy's car and you broke it. 🤦♂️ The N.J. shore town Wildwood has a lot of those old motels of that same style that is known as do-wop style. Unfortunately in recent years quite a few have been torn down and replaced with condos. If you ever get up this way, you should check it out.
Fun fact, my family and I were on the brochure for the Waikiki Village for many years starting in the mid 80s. One of the last times I was there in the early 00s they were still using it.
Yup, my grandparents recently passed away (we vacationed with them in MB a lot in my childhood) and they had a spare one they saved so I have a copy now.
You've done it man. You inspired me to go back and visit. I'm using some of my vacation days next month to go back and visit. As always keep up the great work!
Glad you came to our area. As a 37 year local I've never heard anyone called a Strander. Lol. You're just a local. the Grand Stand runs 60 miles from North Myrtle to Pawleys Island. And Downtown is still dangerous.
My parents actually stayed at the Waikiki Village Motel back in May of 1968,the motel was actually built in 1963,,I was only 9 at the time, glad they restored it.I revisited the motel back in the the Summer 2019,over 50 years later.,I alsp remember the Pavilion well as a child. My Grandparents stayed at the Sun n Fun Motel maybe a block behind the Skywheel, still there awaiting restoration. This video brings back some fond memories, thankyou!
Adam looks like you went back in time. Very interesting. It makes me sad when they tear down buildings. It is like a piece of your passed is being forgotten. Thank You for sharing.
I don’t stay at Myrtle beach because I prefer more empty non commercial beaches nearby but it’s fun to go the Broadway at the beach, Barefoot landing and Medieval times etc while on vacation. It’s hopping in the summer! Love your vlog as always Adam.
Spent many of nights at the Myrtle Beach Pavilion as a kid! There used to be a ride that was in the shape of a rainbow and it would go up so high that you could see the ocean. The view was worth the nausea it induced when it came down- LOL! I remember some of the vintage hotels when we used to go to "senior week" in the 90's. They were cool looking but they for sure drew a wild crowd. The rooms were basically 4 walls with 2 beds. There were no rules at those hotels and I sometimes wonder how I made it out alive at the end of the week!! Thanks for the video and the walk down memory lane
That was interesting and fun. We had a great time in Myrtle Beach back in the late 80's. Enjoyed some really good seafood. We stayed at a high-rise ocean front hotel with a really great indoor pool for that time. I was into some money at that time and my van was brand new customized. I will have to save if I want to go back. We will see!
This video brought a tear to my eye. My dad had a 1967 Corvair, it was my first car I drove to and from college in 1998. He died in 2016 and my mom JUST got rid of it last month, it was garage kept in “mint” condition. Lots of memories with that car ❤️
I knew a couple of brothers that had identical Corvairs, for the Movie Mr. Hollands opus, we would cruise to school in one, them his brother would roll thru in his, those are awesome. Great vlog Woo, whadda cool dude.
Loving the content Adam. Whatever you did to revamp the channel, it is working and I am here for it. Keep it up. Already have a few places I want to visit now. Xoxo
Strand is a Greman word and means just plainly the beach, that's all. I had a chuckle as the little window nob fell, i was "ooh fudge" lol it's a pitty that they destroy so many old and pretty buildings, i can't understand why they don't try to save stuff like that! Thank you for the retro-tour! See you tomorrow.
Because their old and depleted. Seriously would you consider taking a vacation here with dilapidated infrastructure just to go to a beach if so why when you have so many other places that are modern and don't look like Norman Bates just spent the night there. 🤔
@@robertwiley8458 lol i understand your standpoint but they shouldn't let it fall to such despair in the first place, conserving a style, you still can renovate them to make them modern inside, instead of just bulldozing over, that's sad (i know, it's cheaper but does the great America need to be that cheap?) But hey that's just my European brain thinking!
Myrtle Beach! Spent most of the 90’s growing up vacationing there back when the Pavilion was still around…always looked forward to the night we would go and ride the rides.
the basement bar you went to was also a punk club for a while called The Basement. Antiseen, The Murder Junkies, Wheatus, and many more bands played there.
Love the old CARWASH sign! It's so sad to see all the old Hotel/Motels being torn down. Just looking at those old buildings bring back memories of Summer vacations when swimming in an outdoor motel pool was a highlight of a trip.
And an early model Corvair at that...NICE! My dad had multiple Corvairs back in the day. I loved when my mom drove it to the grocery store. Then someone from the store was helping her load them and went to the wrong end of the car for the trunk. 🤣
Retro rocks!! You meet some an amazing people on this road trip!! I do look foward to your vlogs every morning as I enjoy the cold weather in N.J, this too will pass! Thank you Adam!! Have a fantastic Tuesday!!
Off-season visits to touristy places seem to give the opportunity to see stuff we might not during the in-season. Great video once again! Retro Myrtle Beach guy seemed nice enough, but then he seemed kinda rudely dismissive of the guy with the Jesus truck.
These were great little cars. After Nader's book, there were lawsuits. When the dust cleared, the Corvair was vindicated but it was too late. GM had decided to nix it due to low sales. My Dad had a 1967 and was an insurance agent in WV. He drove that thing in all kinds of conditions. There are videos on RUclips of the Corvair testing where they took them on WWII Jeep testing tracks and really put them through it. Enjoy the car!!
You taking me back to the late ninety's and early 2000's staying at the Polynesian and Sea Mist for the bike weeks. Not 4 star hotels ,but they worked for me.
Mr. sub has the best subs in Myrtle Beach. My mom worked for the Sea Mist Resort for 30 years. The little pools were known as the kitty pools they were for children to play in. The Broadway theater it was known as The Rocking Chair Theater, because the chairs rocked you could sit and rock your way through the movie.
I had a red 62 corvair monza that used lots of oil on each trip. One of the" unsafe at any speed" issues was the fact that at around 50 mph the front end would lift off and you would lose steering control. Very Scary. Smashed up the car while in college. Girl friend at the time sued me. Love the video Adam. Thanks
that was actually an issue regarding tire pressure. You had to make the front end at least 10lbs less than the front. I get her up past 70 and she hugs the road. The camaro fender also helps with downforce but not nearly as much as the tire pressure. I actually did a whole video about when I figured that out and how much better she drove after that! I bet your 62 was nice!
I had a 61 Corvair back in the mid 60s. It never killed me but it definitely did have strange handling dynamics. I was once following a Corvair on the road and watched it go out of control and fish-tail wildly down the road until spinning out. It wasn't just "a rumor". The problems were fixed on the later (65-69) models but it was too late to salvage their reputation. Actually I liked my Corvair and lately find myself looking on Ebay at restored examples. Thanks for the retro tour :)
Loved seeing all the old signs and vintage stuff, the car was great, those guys were pretty nice letting you go down into the basement Adam, Thankyou enjoying riding along
Hi Adam. My name is Jerry. Thank you for your blog. I enjoy all your places you go. I purchased a retired ambulance/ now camper to start enjoying this country myself. maybe we can meet some day. Thanks Adam. Jerry Alsup Eagle Point Ore.
My family and I used to vacation in Holden Beach NC near the North Carolina/South Carolina border just a 40 min/ 1hr drive from Myrtle Beach so been to Myrtle Beach a few times but not this part pretty cool, once you hit NC you’ll give me some great flashback memories
Great catching up on this after getting back from vacation... We actually keep our camper at Ocean Lakes down there towards where you were staying. We only go in off season and love it. Sometimes the weather is incredible. We were just there days before Christmas and it was like 75 and zero wind. You never know.
One of my core memories as a child is staying at the Sea Mist on family vacation and walking through that underground tunnel to go eat breakfast. My favorite part of the underground mural was the divers painted on the walls. There is also a nearby small water park that I used to enjoy going to. Thank you so much for showing a picture of what the tunnel used to look like, very nostalgic!
I'm so old that I clearly recall our family "Every Other Year Vacations". One summer it would be to Myrtle Beach while alternating the next year with a trip to the mountains of North Carolina and/or Tennessee and the various tourist attractions there. On those Myrtle Beach trips we stayed in the old "Splinter Village" motels that were located just about two blocks west of the beach itself. What we all think of as "old style" motels, gas stations, etc. that have been abandoned, repurposed, torn down and replaced with much newer hotels, or have fallen into disrepair due to management/ownership disinterest were pretty much state of the art back then. Neon was a major thing along "The Boulevard ". Traffic was bumper to bumper 24/7 from about April through September and everybody looked forward to a visit to The Pavillion which was THE place to be in Myrtle Beach. I think that the beating heart of Myrtle Beach was The Pavilion and when it was torn down the city lost a huge chunk of its charm. But times change and vacation/resort cities like Myrtle Beach must change with them or die. But back to the present: I had no idea Jack Black lived in Myrtle Beach or that he had a RUclips channel. Jack Black you ask? Just look at him. Who else could he be?
HEY ATW...IM GLAD YOU HAD TO STAY AROUND THIS AREA because it has had so much to see. After yesterday's "Haunted" , and all the melting ice, today's vlog seemed a little brighter. I really enjoyed all the retro stuff showcased by the guide. This has been one of your most epic vlog trips!
I love that old Corvair back in the day I knew quite a few folks who drove them. This video brings back memories of MB for me. The Wife and I have been there many times as we lived in SC for a very long time. Drive on down highway 17 to Georgetown SC. Its a small town on Winyah Bay I think you might like looking around the town. Visit the Georgetown Ice Company in business since 1938 and get some coffee and a hot dog. Thanks for taking us along as you enjoy your traveling adventures. cheers.
In my home town we have an area which is called The Strand, down by the river front. And in my current home city, London, there's a street called Strand, which was the river front road before the Thames was narrowed with its Embankment. Strand: noun - the shore of a sea, lake, or large river.
That was really neat! My husband and l stayed in a retro motel in Panama City Beach. It was so great! All the rooms were ocean front. The rooms had been completely redone with little kitchens. The staff was awesome. Plan on making it our place for vacations. We went in October. The weather was awesome and so was the price! Love Retro❤
Thanks. Nice to know that they finally did something with the railroad cars. They were sitting near the station for years. They were thinking of bringing trains back into Myrtle Beach. But I guess those plans have fallen through. Stay warm. I will catch up with you tomorrow.
Another great video Adam! The first time I went to Myrtle Beach, in 2000, we stayed at the Sea Mist. We were able to travel in the tunnel from the parking lot to the main building. It was pretty cool.
Great day Adam loved the vintage tour of that area and your tour guide was top notch and his car 🚙 was beyond amazing for a classic car also I could hear it in your voice that you were in heaven just like me so thanks again for another vintage learning experience now with that being said peace ☮️ love ❤️ and happiness to you Adam and I’ll see you on the next Adams Big Adventure also please be safe out there
Awesome video Adam thank you both. Chevrolet had actually adjusted the suspension before the book was even published. You could also very easily retrofit the original 2 years. Much of the problem on those initial 2 years came from ignoring the tire pressure staggering front to back.
Cool vlog!! Very familiar with the Corvairs. My former father-in-law had numerous Corvairs that he rebuilt and took to car show. With the engine in the back it did very well driving in the snow. Nice of this fella to give your the tour!!
I live just up the road in Calabash NC and learned a lot from this video, thanks, I will have to go down and check this out for myself, only about a 30-45 minute drive!
We called those saddle shoes. I used to live in Covina, California. Witnessed a guy in a Corvair drive a little too fast over a raised area...his engine fell out onto the street! (And it's weather vane.)
You need to come up to Wildwood, NJ in the summertime if you like retro motels and neon. There is even a neon museum where someone has saved the neon signs of buildings that have been torn down. Retro style is known as Doo-Wop style in Wildwood.
Great episode, I stayed in one of those motels with my girlfriend back in 91, the summer Pearl Jam released 10, we first heard it on MTV in that motel room and that became our music for that summer
I'm really enjoying this series on Myrtle Beach. I spent a lot of time there when I was a kid. Haven't been there in decades and it's amazing how little has changed.
We were here in the early seventies on our honeymoon. All this old stuff was modern in those days, even the car. Have a post card of the Motel we stayed at and looks like the one going to be torn down now. Lots of memories, made a few trips back, but lots have changed too. Like the tragic passing of my wife. But really good memories of how it was.
Very cool walk! That coffee place is pretty cool! Seems like a great time to visit Myrtle Beach without the crowds! This is amazing Adam. Local Myrtle Guide was great. Thank you for letting me tag along!
The retro aesthetic is unbelievable in this town!!! Looks like they are going to be spending huge amounts of money redeveloping and all of the old buildings will be gone forever. They do this here in Australia anywhere there is beach and old retro style buildings all get torn down in favour of new buildings built by Chinese investment companies... Glad you were able to document it Adam it will be on the internet forever
I love that there's absolutely no one anywhere! This is when I want to go! Retro tour guide has very little to say. The tunnel would be perfect for the homeless folks.
Man, I always fantasize about driving an older classic car, like a basic VW van or an old Mustang or something, but since I know absolutely nothing about cars other than than how to check my oil or change a tire, I feel like after a while all the added maintenance and harder to find replacement parts would eventually overtake my enjoyment. This vlog today reminds me a bit of what I loved about "Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee", but darn, even on that show Seinfeld's cars were always breaking down mid-filming. So whenever I do come across a still-running classic car out on the streets, I just sort of assume they're all mechanics, haha. Gotta appreciate the effort though. I always tend to applaud them as I drive by, because at least I get to enjoy the cars they all take the extra time and care to preserve, right? 👏👏👏 cheers.
Family Kingdom used to be called Grand Strand Amusement Park. Lots of memories there. Worked there when I was 10 to 12 years old. Lived in MB from 77 to 84 and been there a ton of times since. If you get a chance hit up Dagwoods for lunch. You won’t regret it. Ask for Justin and tell him his uncle Larry says hello. He’s a manager there. Thanks for the memories.

Thanks again for the great time with you! Take care and be safe God bless
Love this little trip around Myrtle Beach. Thanks Mr. Woo!
Loved this! and the girls working at that coffee bar were so nice when I went there. Loved the all the 80's decor! ☕️ 😁
7:50 adam thinking " crap i just broke his car" haha
Great day Adam loved the vintage tour of that area and your tour guide was top notch and his car 🚙 was beyond amazing for a classic car also I could hear it in your voice that you were in heaven just like me so thanks again for another vintage learning experience now with that being said peace ☮️ love ❤️ and happiness to you Adam and I’ll see you on the next Adams Big Adventure also please be safe out there
You have made the Neon Nerd in me very happy. Awesome. Cheers.
Lord Have Mercy! THIS WAS SO *FUN!!* 😃 You're always fun Woo, this was a great treat. Thank You
I stayed at the Sea Mist 2 times as a child and loved it. awesome water park and ice cream parlor
The way your new friend is dressed reminds me of John Candy!! He's got that look 😆
Loved his classic car. Interesting stuff in that area.
Like seeing these vlogs about your back road finds and retro finds Mr. Adam. Thank you. Be safe and well in your adventures and travels Mr. Adam.
Love it! I visited Myrtle Beach as a child a few times, always went to the pavilion. Id like to retire there someday.
Thank you for showing us 😊 driving around in the classic car was enjoyable can't wait until your next stream I never miss them
I live just up the road in Calabash NC and learned a lot from this video, thanks, I will have to go down and check this out for myself, only about a 30-45 minute drive!
We called those saddle shoes. I used to live in Covina, California. Witnessed a guy in a Corvair drive a little too fast over a raised area...his engine fell out onto the street! (And it's weather vane.)
I've been going to the MB area every year since the early 90's and I still learned alot and saw a lot of new things in this video!
You need to come up to Wildwood, NJ in the summertime if you like retro motels and neon. There is even a neon museum where someone has saved the neon signs of buildings that have been torn down. Retro style is known as Doo-Wop style in Wildwood.
That thumbnail was awesome ! It reminds me of my first car, a '63 Dodge Dart Convertible! Push button trans, slant six..So many great memories
Great episode, I stayed in one of those motels with my girlfriend back in 91, the summer Pearl Jam released 10, we first heard it on MTV in that motel room and that became our music for that summer
This was great. So many memories from the 70s and 80s.
I had a 65 Convair shift on the dash sky blue 👍 I used to stay not far from the tunnel at the wave rider in it's better days. Fun video 👍
I'm really enjoying this series on Myrtle Beach. I spent a lot of time there when I was a kid. Haven't been there in decades and it's amazing how little has changed.
You have found a friend. The guy is a great addition and interesting
I really enjoyed him. Very knowledgeable.
I like his car and his saddle shoes!I love seeing an old hotel kept up and open!SLAPPY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Very cool walk! That coffee place is pretty cool! Seems like a great time to visit Myrtle Beach without the crowds! This is amazing Adam. Local Myrtle Guide was great. Thank you for letting me tag along!
Loved the coffee shop.
Back in 1971, I got my driver license, in a 1963 Corvair Monza convertable, fun car to drive
Oh no kidding . Now that’s cool
That is so cool. My very first car was a Corvair and it was that year and model. Except, mine was a hard top.
Great Job. Stay Safe...
That Maryland Fried Chicken place across the street is awesome. I eat there at least once a week.
My first car was a 63' Corvair. Good Lord I'm old!
P.S. Great show, as usual...
Some cool old retro buildings there in downtown. Thanks for the vid today. 🇦🇺🇦🇺👍👍
Enjoyed this video a lot Adam! The car reminds me of the car in Planes Trains and Automobiles that gets destroyed..lol
A lot of Retro Goodness in this video love his car so cool so sad a lot of old buildings getting torn down
Man, I always fantasize about driving an older classic car, like a basic VW van or an old Mustang or something, but since I know absolutely nothing about cars other than than how to check my oil or change a tire, I feel like after a while all the added maintenance and harder to find replacement parts would eventually overtake my enjoyment.
👏👏👏 cheers.
I loved CIVGC and Jerry in general!
If I remember right it’s 4th Ave South. A block west of the BLVD.
