  • This is a video that shows a fitment problem with my Colt Trooper that I fitted with a Comt Python barrel. The ejector rod head does not fit in the barrel slot. the guns used in this video are as follows

You are most likely correct about the problem appearing when the barrel was set back. Two ways a gun butcher like me would deal with it. You could shorten the head but that would look a bit odd compared to other Colts. Why not thread the ejector rod and then shorten it? Probly only take 3 more threads and removal of the top three.

@doranmaxwell1755 I think I have come up with the solution. I think they make a shorter head.

I know a magazine from back in the day had a full article on doing this exact conversion. Your going to have to set the shoulder back on the rod OR you can sand the actual rod cap piece on the threaded side till it fits. I wouldn’t sand the other side of the rod cap because that would be to noticeable. Or you could mill out just a C hair of the barrel lug. Personally I think setting back the shoulder on the ejector rod is the best way to go about getting that it to fit and shut

I will have to look into setting the shoulder back. I am not exactly sure what that means. Thank you for your input. I will research it.

@@TerryBentonso where the threads end on the rod there is that step and it goes into unthreaded rod that step is the sholder that needs to be put on a lathe and trimmed back slightly. To allow the cap to screw on to the rod further. I’m sure a good machinist could easily do this job with zero effort

@Johnny-jr2lq I am going to get it threaded if my new idea does not work. I think I have solved the problem. I found a shorter head. It will be here Saturday. If it works I will post a video showing it

Can you get a shorter ejector rod head that is used on other Colt revolvers like the Trooper/Lawman/Official Police/Police Positive ? They are usually pretty cheap even if you have to buy 2-3 of them before finding one that fits.
