Benj I can promise you the WR is solid. Last weekend mine was covered in snow for about a 3 hours while out playing with my daughter and by covered I mean COVERED. All I saw was my shutter button.....until it fell off 😂😂 also I agree it did make my button sticky so I think it fell off for a reason. This is hands down one of the best daily shooters for digital you can own. Next I’d say the Ricoh grii/iii would be a closer under up if you don’t mind not having a viewfinder. I love my x100v and definitely am glad it’s my only digital camera 🙌🏼🤙🏼
I have the R as well but I did have the X100V. Sadly I sold it. Now I want it again. I've done conceptual work with it along with my Godox AD200s. I had the X100s and F. I was not expecting how good this one was.
best photo I've ever taken was of my two boys at Sloopy's using my X100 - no brainer, diabolically good contraption - mind blowing at times ...... it's not you are there, it's like they are here - got it ?
I still love mine, and will keep it a while, despite the announcement and release of the X100VI. I’ll upgrade eventually but I came to watch this video to remind myself that the X100V is still a champ and especially now that the prices have dropped so much on a used model, I cannot recommend this camera highly enough. The lens upgrade alone (from the X100F) was worth it for me. I can’t wait to see your detailed review of the X100VI and I hope you still have love for the V!
6:35 Shoot in dr400 mode and you won’t need to underexpose the image then bring up shadows and mids. Dr400 does that for you without needing to underexpose and end up with dark jpgs.
Sure, but DR400 requires you to shoot in what, ISO800? I don’t primarily use JPEGS so 99% of my stuff from this camera is from raw files anyway. But yes, I do like that feature for the times I do.
@@benjhaisch Iso 640. And I would gladly trade some noise in my shadows (which is easily fixable) for a beautiful rolloff in the highlights, especially with a hilight curve. This is something NOT fixable in post, unlike noise. And it works in raw too. How? Dr400 underexposes your shot internally (hence the higher iso requisite to give the sensor headroom) while also boosting your mids and shadows…. A laborious task in LR that is handle automatically in the raw file’s dr400 flag. On your operating system image viewer it will look underexposed, but in LR it comes in correct. To really understand: 1) shoot dr400, images that are back lit, white outfits, etc where your main exposure is a stop or two BELOW the hilight exposure. Shoot raw + jpg. 2) load the raw files in fuji x raw converter software (comes free with your camera. 3) find an image with bloomed hilights. 4) flick between dr400 and dr100. You will see how in dr400 images retain detail in the highlights!
I really like the photo look from this camera. I regularly use a Leica M8 with the Voigtlander 35mm single coated Nokton. So it’s hard to justify the X100V, I like the waetherprofing on the V so maybe when the next X100 comes out I’ll pick one up.
Nice video! I would actually like to see more tests of video overheating these days. At launch it was bad apparently but I wonder how much was firmware vs. hardware design limitations. I am wanting a good photo/vloggers camera and while I know theirs better options for either/or I wish this V can handle long run times on a tripod. If even just 1080p..but preferably 4k.
Definitely would like to see a video on the cinebloom filter. I ordered the 10% for my x100v, and just waiting for it to come in to fill my back order.
I sold my F as soon as the V came out. It was a fantastic upgrade. The V fills three roles in my world. Travel camera with both adapters, Everyday carry for everytime I head out the door, and then the leaf shutter, paired with my AD200's to back up my XH-1 for my commercial work. Now I can even shoot B-roll on the V. Incredible little camera. Same batteries for both. Don't need two big pro cameras anymore. It's awesome.
Hey Chip, it's Chip! I have an F and I keep going back and forth on selling it for a V, or just waiting until the 6th gen of this camera comes out. I love my F but the Continuous AF is pretty subpar in my opinion, especially given that I use Sony's for my work cameras. Would you say the AF-C on the V is noticeably better than the F, to the point of justifying upgrading? Thanks in advance for your opinion.
@@ChipKalback would never compare it to Sony focussing speeds, not fair... but the V is an allround noticeable improvement over the F. I would say its quick, it hasn't annoyed me at all. I think it's worth it for the lens alone. The rest is gravy.
I have one too and love it. Only complaint was focus when i had eye autofocus enabled. It was shite. Disabled it and went with face detection and it has been great.
I have the X100T, GR3 and the X100V. I’ve found that if I don’t have one of them... I miss it constantly... So, I keep all 3 and couldn’t be happier.😊 📸
Hey thanks, I use my Cascade Presets from pack 02, specifically “B+W flat +” I basically just copy/paste that on most of the images. You can find the link in the description if you’re interested.
You're going to love that camera :) I use Benj's Cascade presets too and they work very well with the Fujifilm Raw files. In addition, I find that the in-built Fujifilm Acros film simulation does a fantastic job :)
I’ve a T, 2 F’s and now a V. Love them all and used the built in ND filter all the time. Here’s something I’ve discovered but heard no one mention: the 3stop ND was perfect. Shooting in bright afternoon light wide open at ISO 160, I get the red, 2000+ SS warning, but when I turn on the 4stop ND the SS drops to between 160 and 250. That’s much too slow and NOT a versatile range. Have that at only f2.8. As I said, at 3stops this would have been a SS around 360-500. Does anyone else wonder why Fuji upped the ND filter to 4stops? Every talks like this is an improvement. What am l missing?
Thanks so much for this review! helped a lot! What camera strap is that? I love it! Also if you don't mind me asking who makes that shirt? been looking for something just like that. Thanks!
Your videos are so useful for those of us in the market for a new camera! Two partially unrelated questions: 1) why do you think Fuji don’t just... make a film camera? It’s the only area in which they don’t compete directly with Leica. 2) that’s a lovely strap - where is it from? Thanks again for the honest reviews - I’m subscribed to many channels but yours are much more personal to you and therefore useful.
It's interesting what you said about the dynamic range. I suspected the same thing so did a test comparing hightlight recovery between my X-S10 and M262. The Fuji indeed has at least a stop more recovery in the highlights. I was hoping the M10 would have more recovery there but from what you say, it doesn't.
Greetings Benj. Thanks for the short term review of the X100v. While I wanted to have this camera in my hands, I held off since I just bought an XT3 last December and we still have quarantine restrictions implemented. Anyway, I'm interested in what you mentioned about the soft shutter release button issues your commenters have mentioned. I would like to know what they exactly are as I have one installed on my XT3, if they have tips on how to avoid shutter mechanism problems, and how much would the approximate cost be for the repair. Thank you.
Thank you Benj for this good video, like all your other ones. I want this x100 so badly to go alongside my xpro3. Especially with its 35mm equivalent. I take my xpro3 when I ride my bicycle and it's on the heavy side to shoot with one hand while riding, also it forces me in that specific case to take my eyes off the road (thank you Fuji for the hidden screen). Plus falling with a 3000€ camera+lens... Well... For the shutter release button, I bought a Gariz, it's on the pricey side but it's beautiful, precisely machined and I'm using it on my old Pentax Super A and my Fuji x20, xt2 and xpro3 with no issues.
Well, I bought x100f when it came out for similar thing. Camera to take with me while cycling. Dunno what kind of cycling you are doing, but x100 also is not a cheap camera to break while falling. Also it’s not that small. Anyway - it’s great and on some rides it’s worth taking it. Personally my main concern in sweat and how AF wants to focus on wrong things, but count that as user error. Phone on other hand seems good enough for cycling
@@gunarstreikals2099 Thanks Gunars for your answer. It's road cycling in and out of town, between 20 and 40kms each time. I tried phone but no good grip and unlocking it is a hassle especially with gloves. I don't have iPhone so no face recognition. About the price I found used ones in mint condition between 800 and 1000€, interesting price. Looking for that 100v because I like Fuji and I intend to use it on bike and streets.
@@REMY.C. on android you can try to set it up that double click of unlock button will switch on the camera and volume button will take the picture. At least that’s doable with gloves if necessary. But surely image quality is much much better with Fuji. I sometimes take it on rides.when hanging on shoulder strap compensation dial sometimes turns, so it’s something to keep in mind when taking quick photos on the go. Also would like to update to V from F just because of the updated lens )))
Thank you for a great review. Wonderful pics too! Did you notice that this camera is missfocusing at times? X100f did it and some people say that it’s still happening with x100v. That’s your experience?
What Leica do you have? I have the Leica SL and a Sigma 85mm 1.4 art... Love the camera but I find more and more that I don't ever want to take it with me. Casein point. I went to Yosemite recently and chose not to bring the SL. I love Fuji cameras. I bought the Fuji X Pro 1 back in 2012 and even though it was slow and quirky I absolutely loved that camera. The x100 v would be so easy to bring with me, although my pixel 7 Pro takes phenomenal photos for being the cell phone!! I wish the x100 came in full frame. I wish Fuji made any of the XT series or the X Pro series in full frame. I'd be all over that like flies on diarrhea!! Thanks for the video. It'd be nice to have an x100 for me to take to the streets to Seattle right about now.
Love this camera. I use it when I need my confidence level to be high on my shoots, i.e., night shoots, VERY special occasions, or when I need to travel light. However, for going around and doing street photography, I use my Leica M9.
Fascinating Benj. May I ask : Does the wide angle adaptor to 28mm reduce the IQ? I'm concerned about no IBIS, what is the slowest SS you are happy to hand hold at? Close up images relatively poor vs Leica Q? Thanks in advance, Rich.
I own the x100T and the optical viewfinder is really great for making the most out of the built-in leave shutter (flash-photography with 1/1000 sec at f2). If there's enough light though, I usually stick to the EVF since it is easier to compose with it.
The X-E4 price will fall farther than the X100V - at the moment the premium for the X100V is worth it for leaf/flash and sealing, but in a year or so, the X-E4 will be the better deal. I'd say get an X100V now, and an X-E4 in 18mo as a companion piece.
Jason, the first question you should be asking is, will you want to change lens? Having a different viewfinder on the X100V is no good to you if you want to put a 35mm f0.95 lens on it or any number of alternative Fuji mount lenses like a 56mm f1.2.
Thanks for your reviews on this. Would you recommend this for a newbie? I don't ever use zooms because I turn on the camera and quickly get a shot. (99% of the time). I throw my camera in a bag or carry it on my body for candid shots. I ride my bike casually and have it on my neck or in a bag on my handlebars which also means turning it on and taking a quick shot. I really only want to adjust the aperture and iso if needed. I would like to learn how to take photos at night. I like people photos most of all. After watching your reviews on this, it seems like a good fit. Maybe an expensive experiment but something I could grow into. I've been shooting with a p+s for over 10 years and love taking a photo a day . I've done multiple 365 projects and just find that shooting is fun. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
If you think it would be an expensive experiment, just but an original X100 or x100S (or even an XE-1 or XE-2 and an 18mm f2 for for about £200), and see how it goes.
Thanks for the incredible video! I've been eagerly waiting for the X100V to be in stock (it's been back-ordered for months) and it's finally arriving in a few days. I'm curious if you've found a need to get a protective cover for the screen and/or camera body, or is it pretty good on its own against dents and dings?
splitting hair! getting the x-e4 here, the value for money is just too good. I owned the x100f for a while but I dont like the 23mm, its too wide for me. alos I value compactness over the OVF and Im not too bothered about the weather sealing. even if it was weather sealed I cant see myself leaving it out when its pouring with rain...
About that cute lens shade on your camera: can I assume it's the Haoge LH-X54W Square Metal Lens Hood on Amazon? One: When you tighten the hood onto the lens to what feels like a comfortably firm twist the opening on the hood ends up diagonal. When you back off the hood rotation to make the opening horizontal, the hood is now loose, making it easy to accidentally knock it off horizontal in use and therefore causing vignetting. It's mild, but it's vignetting. And it does that with or without a filter in the mix. Two: The Fuji supplied lens cap does not fit on the hood. Repeat, it does not. It looks right when you push it down on on one side but surprise, it's off on the opposite side. No amount of coaxing will make it sit correctly on the hood. It may be that they expect you to remove the rubber gasket inside the lens cap but that's the fault of their design tolerances, not Fuji's. I don't want to disfigure my cap to see if it might then fit on their hood. That's my experience...
Battery life? FujiFilm hit the sweet spot striking a balance between digital and a film like feel and I just love this camera. My question is about battery life. I have had the x100v for a few weeks now and the battery is not performing as I would expect. The first few days I had the camera and after fully charging the battery it was fully depleted by day three with about 30 frames taken. I had the camera on for a few hours here and there over the three days mainly to setup the connection to my phone and look through the menus and assign functions to different dials. I am somewhat basing my expectations on how my Nikon D7500's battery performs. However, I realize the two batteries are not the same. FujiFilm rates the battery life at something like 350 images when EVF is set to normal mode. Please comment about battery life.
Got this one and sold my canon 6d mark ii with canon 24-70 lens. Best decision ever. Mostly shoot portraits. The biggest perk of this camera is it’s size and capabilities. I often put it in my pocket and take it with me and you know what’s the best camera, the one you have with you. As he said, can’t recommend this camera enough.
Great breakdown, got me juiced about my x100v, thanks! So what are your thoughts on auto WB and do you shoot in raw only? I’m finding that the AWB and skin tones are amazing out of the box and better than my z6... Thanks again!
Just happened to read your comment :D I use the X100V too, and in the beginning I had always set it to AWB, however, in some situations it really messes up the WB e.g. when taking photos in nature/forest with lots of different greens - at least from my experience, which is why I only set it manually now.
Ah, good to know about trees and landscape. I was thinking about how well it worked indoors with different kinds of light sources and how well it does with people/skin, but will look out for WB in nature, etc. thanks!
Just got it on sale to replace my x100s....other than the single directional button which keeps being knocked on to change the focusing position, everything is better.

Dude cranking them out lately. Nice
Haha trying!
“In fact, it’s so good, I’m actually recording this video on the same camera”
*pulls out another fuji x100v
Great job, love your style.
I want this camera so bad it’s so dope 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
It really is! I would say with any of models of the X100 series you can't go wrong. Still loving the original one :)
thank you for checking my video out Benj, much appreciated, been following your content for a while
Thanks for the review. I have this camera and love it. Trying to talk myself out of the Leica Q2.

Shoot in dr400 mode and you won’t need to underexpose the image then bring up shadows and mids.
@@benjhaisch
Iso 640.
To really understand:
1) shoot dr400, images that are back lit, white outfits, etc where your main exposure is a stop or two BELOW the hilight exposure.
If even just 1080p..but preferably 4k.
thanks so much. I am buying.
Great video, Benj! And I love my 100V already. Question: what strap is that and where did you get it? Thanks!
I currently have both in case you’re interested in any A/B testing. The focus is both faster and more accurate especially in lower light on the V.
@@chiprock2692 Awesome, thanks for the info
@@benjhaisch Thanks man, this is helpful for sure. Loved the video as well, keep up the great work -
I have one too and love it.
Hey there, thanks for the review! Where can I get that strap?
Nice video ! I absolutely love my x100v
Excellent and really useful review; thks.
When is the X100VI coming out?
I have an X100V on order. I love your B&W images of your kids. Mind if I ask what settings and post-production techniques you used to get that look?
Thank you! Very Nice pictures! 😉
Thanks so much for this review! helped a lot! What camera strap is that? I love it! Also if you don't mind me asking who makes that shirt? been looking for something just like that. Thanks!
Commenting for Comments sake keep making these dope videos Benj!
Your videos are so useful for those of us in the market for a new camera!
Two partially unrelated questions:
1) why do you think Fuji don’t just... make a film camera? It’s the only area in which they don’t compete directly with Leica.
2) that’s a lovely strap - where is it from?
Thanks again for the honest reviews - I’m subscribed to many channels but yours are much more personal to you and therefore useful.
I want one of these but with a full frame sensor. Still keep the 35mm f2 lens as well.
I can't imagine Fujifilm making one, but I'd love it. I've been begging Sony to make a RX1R III. The other versions both have a full frame 35/2
I own a Leica M10-p but I really want this camera 📷 big fan of x100 series since the first one.
Thank you.
Yes please on the Cinebloom video!
When you were saying "if someone made a modern film camera" I was just thinking of if Fuji made an analog X100....
They did make the Klasse S and Klasse W which was awesome. I’d die if they updated it with some of there X100V features
Ah! I knew something felt different. Even tho I'm watching your videos in 4k, it felt a soft compare to others.
Great real-life review. I was worried about it for portraits. But your people pics look great. And I'm a Leica freak, but for the high cost..
Great effort, Benj Haisch needs more coffee, what a guy
Thank you for a great review. Wonderful pics too! Did you notice that this camera is missfocusing at times? X100f did it and some people say that it’s still happening with x100v. That’s your experience?
Do you have a video on how you’ve set up this camera?
Thank you for the review. I just want to ask, what camera and lens did you use to shoot this video review ?
Great video, how would you compare it with the Leica, say the M240?
I hope next generation will have a redesigned lens motor and smoother focus.
Timely video! Just got mine in :)
haha thanks! how did you find this video? it's unlisted
It'd be nice to have an x100 for me to take to the streets to Seattle right about now.
a pair of M10s and an M6 currently
Thanks for sharing, great review. Did you happen to try the Leica Q2 and compare it to the X100V for daily/travel use?
Love this camera. I use it when I need my confidence level to be high on my shoots, i.e., night shoots, VERY special occasions, or when I need to travel light. However, for going around and doing street photography, I use my Leica M9.
Oh so tempting!
After watching this I bought one. Thank you.
Great video! Where did you get that stunning lens hood??
Fascinating Benj. May I ask : Does the wide angle adaptor to 28mm reduce the IQ? I'm concerned about no IBIS, what is the slowest SS you are happy to hand hold at? Close up images relatively poor vs Leica Q? Thanks in advance, Rich.
Love this vibe, man. Hope we can link up someday!
i just had printed pictures from this camera (SOOC) (40x30 cm) and looks amaizing... i cant imagine get any better
I’m really torn between this and the xe-4, but I feel like the viewfinder with the x100v might be a lot more fun to use
Mine has a screen protector on it, but I it just came with it. My X-E4 hasn’t needed one though
I still don't know if i want the x100v or the xe4 with vintage lenses or the x pro 2 with vintage lenses for street photography... any suggestions?
splitting hair! getting the x-e4 here, the value for money is just too good.
It’s the actual squarehood one
Yo Benj, that's a killer shirt. Where did you get it ?
Why do people get so animated about battery life? They are dirt cheap and tiny. Buy a bunch off eBay.
I would really like your take on the X-S10
Patrick Tomasso has a really good video on it if you want to search. If I did more filmmaking, I’d definitely consider picking it up for the IBIS.
I’m torn between the 100v or the Ricoh GRIII as a small carry when I don’t want to take my XH1 out.
I'd go with the X100V just because it keeps within that same ecosystem as the X-H1
I was thinking about how well it worked indoors with different kinds of light sources and how well it does with people/skin, but will look out for WB in nature, etc. thanks!
I came for the camera info but the Rankos pharmacy stopped me in my tracks. Just down the street from where I grew up
Just got it on sale to replace my x100s....other than the single directional button which keeps being knocked on to change the focusing position, everything is better.
