Awesome post. Thanks for doing the research. I’ve just recently gotten hooked into comics. It’s so addicting. I’ve amassed 500 comics in the last 45 days since I had started. A couple of questions, how do you slow down and is doing a subscription with DCBS for example save you some $$? You still have to pay for shipping and you have to order a lot to make it worthwhile. This is for new issues of course. What do you think?
Hi there! Welcome to the hobby! I'm so glad that you enjoyed the video and found this information helpful. That's incredible that you were able to find that many books in 45 days. I think it took me like 1.5 years to get that many when I started collecting lol Yeah, if you still have to pay shipping, I don't know how much saving you would be doing. I don't read new comics anymore, but what I used to do when I did, is I used to have a pull list at a comic shop. Walk into any shop and tell them you want to start a file. Every week the shop will put the books aside for you and you can pick them up at your leisure. I hope this helps.
Hey I found a ASM #300 for $100 listed as 3.0-4.0, but when I came and looked at it looked like it’s 2.0-2.5. The bottom of the book looks like it had mud on it, it looked like it’s been rained on or water damaged, and the cover has been damaged (it’s brown on the bottom and sides of the cover). Do you think $100 is the right price? Or should I ask for lower?
Probably would ask for lower unfortunately! People who opt for lower grade copies always do so because they are usually much more expensive. You probably would have an easy time getting rid of it for 50. 50 is definitely and arbitrary number though. Get as much as you can for it though, but if you’re having a hard time selling it, definitely lower the price. Good luck!
Not trying to diss -but a side note -- but whenever I hold my books like that I get small indents/creases if looked at in right light. Are those mylite 2s or 4s? mylite 4s you can handle like that no prob -- just an observation! thanks for posting, i
First comic book I bought was cgc 9 watchmen #1 signed by dave gibbons. I bought it 6 months ago and have been buying comics from every spectrum ever since. Its addictive, I love it, especially reading and seeing the artwork from decades ago compared to today.
Hi there! Thanks for sharing in that awesome comment! Your are a true fan of the medium. Yes, buying comics is addicting. I can identify with a lot of what you said. I am very fascinated in the past. Reading comics for me is like opening time capsules from eras which I did not exist. Thank you for watching and commenting. Happy collecting!
Loot crate has a Action comics 1 reprint. It is the best one out there. It's reprinted word for word and page for page. It was even printed on news print paper. It $10 to $15.
Actually, I just learned about this comic. I might have to see if I can track one down. The reprint I have only reprints the Superman story. Thanks so much for the suggestion! Thanks for watching and commenting!
I know, you’re right... I’ve just been so disillusioned with comics of late. The prices are getting to be unnecessarily ridiculous.. I’ve kind of paused. I’m mostly buying trades and reading trades from the library
I like the video. The first appearance of Carnage, though, is some earlier issue, where the red symbiote goo appears in a panel or two, drawn from the POV of Carnage. (Kind of like how the first Apocalypse appearance is just before his first cover appearance.) The first Carnage cover, though, is awesome. I picked up all of those issues as a kid in the 90s.
Hi there! It actually does have the seal, it’s just right next to the numbering. Around the time of the 80s they started putting those seals in other places as opposed where they traditionally used to put them (top right corner I think). Thanks for watching and commenting!
And to cap this all off, by the end of the video , there were 14 of the 55 books that I didn't have. Guess I'm doing pretty good there. And to offer some suggestions like U requested, you might want to research DC some more. I know it's not everybody's cup of tea, the dakotaverse created by Dwayne McDuffie (milestone media was fully integrated into the DCU in 2008 , prior to that it was a secondary imprint) but that's where the character static shock first started in static vol 1 1. And you should look into the series 52 over at DC from around 2005-6, there's some first appearances and deaths over there, like the elongated man if my memory is correct. Any of those books are super affordable. The first appearance of Bane, you guys can look that up, it's probably going for who knows what these days, but when I got it many many years ago it was affordable. Keep in mind I've never paid over $50 for any single comic and I have well over a hundred 1st appearances. And that includes the first Carol Danvers and Danvers as Ms. Marvel. Two different books of course.
I don't know if you mentioned it or not because your video is so long but.... Daredevil #241 "Black Christmas" was a good comic book I used to have but one of my nephews ripped it. It has "The Trickster" in it and a group of teenagers named "The Fat Boys". I really liked it. It's usually fairly cheap. The one I had came with an action figure.
1st post: this might be lengthy. Lol. Haven't read any of the comments here yet, but I can tell you the exact reason for the arbitrary insane rise in value on that Cable book. When there's a movie announced with a character, keep in mind only announced character in a film mind you, not if the movie does well or amazingly like the first Superman movie did. But just from a character announcement in a film, the price jacks up to an insane degree. And if the markets behaving itself and being honest with itself, the book starts to come back down to a reasonable degree. I could understand better if a movie does amazing that the price is going to go up based on more interest after the movies out - Fair interest - but just from a movie announcement of the character the price can go up for a certain period of time 5 or 10 fold? It's completely freaking insane. And thus the First full appearance of Carnage, not the first ever. There's a first Cameo Cletus kasady and then in another book there's the 1st full Kasady/ 1st brief Carnage. Even in your original video, your price was way off. If you originally quoted it at about a $20 book, you were wrong, back then two years ago it was at least 35 or $40. Once again all this as you know depends on condition. The first Alpha flight book you're talking about, the first time they were in a Solo title under that name. That's also the first appearance of puck. As I recall there were two different versions of that breaking of the bat book, and as far as gimmicky 90s books are concerned, that was far from the worst and it's called a half cover, not a die-cut. And I don't remember if the half cover overlay was on the direct Market Edition or the newsstand one, but one of the editions does not have that overlay and you can see the full art. And as far as Batman 655 is concerned, yes that's obviously the first time you see the modern incarnation of Damian Wayne, but there was an antecedent character the Damien was based off of with a different name but still Batman and talia's son. And that baby's first unnamed appearance was in the graphic novel son of the demon from the late 1980s. It's also, in my experience, another book that's not all that expensive and you might be able to find it for less than 15 or $20. The Marvel drug issue in short order led to the two druggies Speedy Green Arrow related drug issues over at DC and those particular events led to the gradual lessening of the CCA and then eventually it's Extinction. There were certain other key parts of the CCA like you couldn't depict werewolves, zombies and vampires I think and you had it to depict police in the best light possible and you couldn't have criminals winning ever because crime had to be depicted in a negative light. For anyone that doesn't know yeah, there were Congressional hearings on the delinquency of minors having influence from comic books, and all that was based on dr. Frederick Wortham book seduction of the innocent. But you can look up comic history yourselves, young viewers. I'm 39 by the way and have been collecting since middle school in 92. I think Madame web appeared in the spider verse series and maybe spider Island as well.
@@Dante19883 well thanks to you that you took the time to read that. I spent way too much time watching the video and responding in all those posts oh, but I wouldn't have done it if I hadn't felt it was important to add something to your video that I hope was helpful, not only to you but also random people watching. It was at least an hour doing so if not more. Lol
Be patient, I’m sure it’ll go down when all the hype relaxes. It may not be even within the next year, but the hype is bound to cool down. That is how I felt when DArk Knight Rises came out and I wanted the first appearance of Bane. Eventually the market cooled and I got it for a reasonable price.
I was lucky enough to get The Frank Miller 4 issue Run Of Wolverine for a pretty decent price & The Wolverine/Patch Issue # 1 as well. About 70 Dollars For The Miller Run & About 40 Dollars for the Wolverine/Patch # 1.
Starting my fourth post, oh my goodness. As far as skull the Slayer is concerned, I do have an issue or two of that series but I don't think I have issue 1, so I'm going to say that now that 6 I'm missing from your list so far. Anyway that's the characters first appearance and all characters by the way damn. But you're forgetting something about the 1970s. There were many many books back in that day, that only published every other month and this book is one of them. I'm pretty sure the Kull comic did the same thing. So it didn't run for 7 months. And I think it ran for seven or eight issues, you're probably right on that. And yeah, I have that war zone book too and you are absolutely correct, that is actually a die-cut cover, compared to that last one you said that was which wasn't. Yes Image Comics was focused on and known for creator-owned books, if they hadn't been, they would never have formed, cuz that was an impetus for forming the company and leaving Marvel. Image had extremely high hopes especially at first, that's why their print runs were massive and that's why you see a lot of image books from the early 90s in dollar bins now. I read some of the decimate issues, but this was more than 15 years ago and I don't remember what it was about but I think I have all of them and I can't remember which of them right now, but it was the first appearance of the Gen 13 team. Actually now that I think about it a little more, it's probably the black issue , cuz I don't think it's a silver or the epilogue. And The X Factor book led to the transformation of Warren Worthington into archangel
@Geekery with Dante D. I have a coupe of those Deathmate. I looking for the pink cover . I have Cvr A Silver Cover Var Layton | Lee, Cvr B Gold Cover Var Layton | Lee Cvr A Black Cover Var Silvestri | Lee Cvr A Yellow Cover Var Leeke | Thibert Cvr A Blue Cover Var Leeke | Thibert Cvr A Red Cover Var Liefield | Miki Cvr A Silver Cover Var Quesada | Silvestri I have no idea as well.
There was another comic book I used to have but I forget what it's called. It had a guy who wore a blue super hero type suit with 2 vertical white stripes that come to a circular design on his chest. There was a bad guy who wore a long coat and carried a screwdriver and killed children. What the hell was that called? I've googled information and can't find it.
Some great recommendations. I bought Skull the Slayer when it came out. There were a few odd titles from marvel at the time such as Bloodstone in Marvel Presents and Mordred the mystic in Marvel Chillers. I honestly don't see it getting more valuable u Marvel make a movie out of it! I haven't watched all of your vlog yet but a comic that might go somewhere would be Deathlock the Demolisher in Astonishing Tales. OK, back to the Vlog!
Some books that are fairly recent, and have high print runs have gone up in value recently. Thor 390, Thor 337, Avengers 11 have all gone up past $50 due to Endgame, or in the case of Thor 337 speculation.
I don’t look at those particular books as an investment...I just look at them as cool books with cultural significance that can be cheaply added to the collection
I never trust eBay listings price for book some people could be asking amazing spiderman 300 non signed for 25 - 200, and others for 900 non signed both are in same grade 8.0
Amazing Spider Man 252 IS the FIRST APPEARANCE of the Black costume! The SECRET WARS was published throughout 1984 but in Amazing Spider Man and several other key books, the heroes disappeared inside of The Beyonder's space ship in January but everyone returned in February of the same year! In other words, the entire Secret War happened during a MONTH continuity wise, but we fans saw WHAT took place in the year long SW series! When the suit appeared in SECRET WARS 8, fans had already seen it repeatedly in Spidey's own books by that point! It was a pretty clever move by Jim Shooter and Co. but I'm GLAD DC didn't take a similar approach with the Crisis on Infinite Earths the very next year!
DEATHMATE was supposed to be a crossover between the IMAGE characters and the VALIANT characters! Valiant was an imprint featuring characters Jim Shooter managed to obtain for the company and what happened was unexpected, these cheap knockoffs that were published in the 60s and 70s were a HIT under the creative guidance of JIM SHOOTER after he had left Marvel! However, there was some kind of power play within valiant, which led to Shooter's departure. I cant remember if Deathmate came out after Jim was gone but fans like myself were furious over how bad it was and how crappy the Valiant books had become! ruclips.net/video/b0MX4q5mUo0/видео.html
One thing to point out...if you are using eBay to price your books, you must look at SOLD listings! People ask ridiculous prices on eBay and the books never sell. You can ask whatever you want for a book, all that matters is what somebody is really willing to give you for it. Also, if you are looking at comics strictly as an investment, invest in Gold or silver instead (junk silver is my poison.) Comics have no real intrinsic value to them...they are just ink and paper after all. When the dollar crashes, comics will be worthless. Also, the market is way too fickle for long term investment except on golden age and silver age keys. As a collector of over 40 years, I remember times I couldn't give away long boxes of comics.
You are absolutely right! It’s really funny, my wife and I were talking about this exact thing this morning... of late I have been dumbfounded over the prices of comics on eBay and even at comic cons... it’s absolutely disgusting and ridiculous. Even 90s comics that I was able to get in dollar bins in the past are now astronomical. I have stopped buying comics totally. I’m now mostly buying trades and reading trades from the library. Please tell me the market will bust and I can get back into getting back issues. Thank you for commenting. I really enjoyed your comment!
Why doesn’t DC sue Marvel for Death Stroke and ripping off Slade/Wilson /Wade Wilson to many similarities. Swords helmet?! over all rip off? What are your thoughts?
True, the similarities are undeniable, however they are different enough that a lawsuit would be unfounded. All DC characters have Marvel counterparts of some sort and all DC characters came from earlier pulp heroes. I might make a video on it. Thanks for this suggestion! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Comic Book Code Authority came into existence due to backlash from the books published in the 50's and early 60's with strong graphic content, particularly in the Horror Books which later transitioned into Marvel. Parent outrage had a lot to do with the Censorship movement.
1. I've heard people pronounce KA ZAR as [Ka ZAARR] If you like Ka zar, give Mike Grell's WARLORD (DC Comics) a whirl: both the series from the 80s and the relatively recent 2000s, which came out a couple of years before the New 52! Both Kazar and Warlord are comic book knockoffs of Edgar Rice Burroughs' AT THE EARTH'S CORE\PELUCIDAR series, which may still be out of print but sometimes pop up in used book stores! TARZAN AT THE EARTH's CORE comes back into print more frequently! ruclips.net/video/c6LZoxOP21Y/видео.html 2. Of the Multiple X-Men number one covers, the one I wanted the most was also the hardest to find, which was the version that had Rogue and Gambit on the cover! They were two of my favorite X-Men at the time (along with Psylock, who I think was also on the same cover) but it seemed the LCS had ordered more copies of the book with Wolverine on the cover! What does your research show? Is the Rogue\Gambit\Psylock X-Men issue harder to find?
Thanks for the suggestions, I will check them out for sure. And I think you are right about the rogue gambit cover. It’s is harder to find. I always find the cyclops wolverine one and the storm beast one.
"What a book is going for" is much different from "what it went for." That is, value should be determined by the final sale price, and not what a seller is asking. How many books with an astronomical price never actually sell?
The biggest thing I disagree on is xmen 1 that sold world record is the biggest factor of the comic crash in the 90s. The numbers that was sold wasnt to customers. It was from how many the distributor sold. Its not worth more than a 1.00. You'll find the xmen 1 in dollar bins all day long. Just wanted to help clear the air w that one.
Of course! You are totally right on that! I’m sure there are a lot of comic shops around that still have stacks of them from 1991 lol thanks for watching and commenting!

I have Kazar # 1. But, it's a different cover. From '97.
I haven’t read that one. I have to check it out. Thanks!
Need to update the video again!
I know, you’re right... I’ve just been so disillusioned with comics of late. The prices are getting to be unnecessarily ridiculous.. I’ve kind of paused. I’m mostly buying trades and reading trades from the library
Love your video's man, keep them coming!
Thank you so much! Glad you are enjoying them. Stay tuned for more. Thank you for watching and commenting!
Video starts at: 6:50
John Engholm thx Nehru
I like the video. The first appearance of Carnage, though, is some earlier issue, where the red symbiote goo appears in a panel or two, drawn from the POV of Carnage. (Kind of like how the first Apocalypse appearance is just before his first cover appearance.) The first Carnage cover, though, is awesome. I picked up all of those issues as a kid in the 90s.
Awesome!! I know 90s comics get a bad rap, but I love them. Glad you do too! Thanks for watching and commenting! Cheers!
I think comics were pretty solid til around 93 or 94, but starting then they sucked pretty bad for close to a decade
Great list! Some of these I was not aware of, so thank you!
My pleasure! I'm glad you found this video helpful! :)
Hey, I have a question, why does your amazing spiderman 252 not have the comic code sign on it?
Hi there! It actually does have the seal, it’s just right next to the numbering. Around the time of the 80s they started putting those seals in other places as opposed where they traditionally used to put them (top right corner I think). Thanks for watching and commenting!
Geekery with Dante D. Thank you very much! Going to get my #252 in a few days. Great video!:)
Awesome! Thanks me for these suggestions.. I will definitely look into them 😊
@@Dante19883 no problem. And hopefully all of my comments help to some degree for anybody that might be listening
Over two years old video and you would not believe how prices have blown up on some of these comic books!
I know... it’s sad really. It’s one of the reasons I don’t collect back issues anymore. The prices are getting ridiculous
Ka-zar started in the mid 30's 36 I think in a pulp magazine his first comic xmen 10 he's a way underrated character I think. Love your channel!
Thanks so much! I’m glad you are enjoying the channel. Also, thanks for that interesting tidbit about KaZar! I agree, he is super underrated! Cheers!
I’ll have to check that out! Thanks!
I forgot to mention Todd Mcfarlane did the artwork on it.
I just discovered your channel. It’s great!
Thanks! Glad you enjoy it!
Do you think batman breaking of the bat will go up in value???
Depends on what they do with the story in the future. If it makes its way into a movie or tv series for sure!
@@Dante19883 yea let's hope
Great video definitely going to look for some of these
Awesome! Trust me, you won’t be disappointed :) glad you found the video helpful. Thanks for watching!
The prices are always changing!!!
I know.. they are getting higher and higher too. I stopped buying comics.. I’m reading a lot more trades now
1st post: this might be lengthy.
Good comment and awesome points! I enjoyed your comment. Thanks for taking the time to watch and write the comment 😊 cheers!
Lol
Yeah, I may never get that Cable book now that he's going to be in a movie :(
Be patient, I’m sure it’ll go down when all the hype relaxes. It may not be even within the next year, but the hype is bound to cool down. That is how I felt when DArk Knight Rises came out and I wanted the first appearance of Bane. Eventually the market cooled and I got it for a reasonable price.
Theres also a second print thats much cheaper on ebay or in general, i actually quite like the gold on the cover, if that helps
I’ve got a super sweet high grade copy of knightfall 11, signed by Kelley Jones.
Awesome man! Kelley Jones is awesome!
I was lucky enough to get The Frank Miller 4 issue Run Of Wolverine for a pretty decent price & The Wolverine/Patch Issue # 1 as well. About 70 Dollars For The Miller Run & About 40 Dollars for the Wolverine/Patch # 1.
That is pretty good!
Nice list of undervalued books and affordable keys!
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it and found it helpful! Thanks for watching
you make me dizzy shifting books left and right
great video and wrote down alot of issues i will be picking up. Thank you
Thanks! Glad you liked the video. Good luck in finding the books. Thanks for watching and subscribing!

Great video. Seems a lot like my list. Great stuff
Thank you sir! I will have to check yours out! You know what they say, great minds think alike lol
How about ROM :Spaceknight now it's being made into a movie?
Actually yes! ROM was always an affordable book. I think prices may go up now that movie is announced lol
Amazing vid!!!
U can also get silver surfer #14 for less than $5
Nice! I will look into that. Thanks for the suggestion. Glad you enjoyed the video! Thanks for watching!
im looking for comics to read so this helped me just ordered the new mutant

I found ms marvel #16 for #1,04 + 7.50= $8.54

I agree!
Man... On the cover of mcfarlane s. Spider man #1 spidermans left hand always bugged me
He's finally fuckin done it
Great vid..very informative
Thanks so much! I appreciate your feedback a lot. Thank you for watching and commenting!
I have 4 of that Batman but they have a stupid sticker on them...
That Batman?
@@CasualtiesOfGaming #497... the 1 in the video icon
First appearance of Spider-Man's black suit is Marvel Age 12.
spiderman 252 for 50 dollars? please tell me where??
Yeah, the video is outdated. I need to get around to updating it. A lot of these books on this list are now in excess of 100 bucks unfortunately
You should put punisher vol.2 #1 onto this list
Oh yes! I agree! That’s another great one! Thanks for the suggestion!
What comic book stores nowadays have dollar bins?? LOL I cant find any less than three dollars LOL
I agree. You should see some of our local comic shops. The prices are ridiculous
Great list! Some of these I did not know, so thank you! new sub here
Hey there! Thanks for watching and subscribing, much appreciated. Glad you found this helpful!
do u have a ebay storee
Unfortunately I don’t 😮💨
If "Dime a dozend" High print run Why would you want it as a investment?
Some books that are fairly recent, and have high print runs have gone up in value recently. Thor 390, Thor 337, Avengers 11 have all gone up past $50 due to Endgame, or in the case of Thor 337 speculation.
I don’t look at those particular books as an investment...I just look at them as cool books with cultural significance that can be cheaply added to the collection
nice video, great list
Thanks so much! I’m glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Great video enjoy till the end will be back for sure
Hey there! Thank you so much! I’m glad you enjoyed the video. Welcome to the channel and I look forward to hearing from you again. Cheers!
I never trust eBay listings price for book some people could be asking amazing spiderman 300 non signed for 25 - 200, and others for 900 non signed both are in same grade 8.0
I know.. eBay is kind of a Wild West when it comes to comic prices. I think that is why I have stopped buying back issues lol
I cant remember if Deathmate came out after Jim was gone but fans like myself were furious over how bad it was and how crappy the Valiant books had become! ruclips.net/video/b0MX4q5mUo0/видео.html
i have Excalibur #1
Me too its worth about .25 cents
About time to do another update. A couple of these books have probably fell off your list.
Yeah I may have to eventually! Thanks!
On eBay I found asm #361 was #$23
Wow what a deal! So awesome!!
By the way great video
And i found one for $20.00 and free shipping and it is a 9.6 copy
Dang.got new mutants 87 a few months ago for $1
That’s an amazing deal
There is another Cable that came before the gold one
Ah, thanks for the info, I wasn’t sure! Cheers!
D.c. got back at deadpool by making Red tool. A parody of a parody
The reason New Mutants 82 was raised was because of Deadpool 2
Comic Book Code Authority came into existence due to backlash from the books published in the 50's and early 60's with strong graphic content, particularly in the Horror Books which later transitioned into Marvel. Parent outrage had a lot to do with the Censorship movement.
Yup agreed! Thanks for that interesting tidbit. Cheers!
I have Ultimate fallout # 4 variant it gone up 400$ because of the movie.
Oh wow I didn’t know that! Thanks for the info!

I couldn’t agree more! Excellent point!
Great video
Thanks so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
I found the new mutants 87 for about $15.75
That’s an amazing find!
Look at 1st app of humpty dumpty and white shark
Yes, just saw that... that was in 2003 in Arkham Asylum right? Very cool.. cool character!
Super affordable, barely an inconvenience.
Jet From Gladiators Ryan George and screen rant
The biggest thing I disagree on is xmen 1 that sold world record is the biggest factor of the comic crash in the 90s. The numbers that was sold wasnt to customers. It was from how many the distributor sold. Its not worth more than a 1.00. You'll find the xmen 1 in dollar bins all day long. Just wanted to help clear the air w that one.
Of course! You are totally right on that! I’m sure there are a lot of comic shops around that still have stacks of them from 1991 lol thanks for watching and commenting!
